Post image for the Chinese will soon have a new toy: a stealth helicopter

The revenge of the Serbs. That’s what was on my mind at that time. I’m talking about the Bosnian-Serbian War back in the 90’s. That time, an American F-117 stealth fighter went down. I remember those water cooler talks, that they will end up in Russia. Guess what, turns out that the Serbians handed it [...]

Post image for Dog in Japan stays by the side of its ailing friend in the rubble

I find this video very difficult to watch. Yes, these are dogs. But the one dog was displaying an unbelievable loyalty to the other dog. It’s pretty heart-wrenching. It’s a universal truth that dogs are man’s best friend, but they’re pretty darn loyal to their own as well. Case in point: this tear-inducing video, via [...]

The wayward teargas

January 28, 2011
Thumbnail image for The wayward teargas

I remember when I was reviewing for the CPA Board Exams. That area in the university belt, being very close to Malacanang Palace has always been and still is ground zero for demonstrations. I could still remember the chants, the teargas and the demonstrators. Nah, I was not even part of the drama, then. We [...]

It’s a very sad day in America. The level of hate and violence here is now unbelievable. According to some of the news stories: Has the country’s increasingly heated political rhetoric gotten dangerously out of control? That’s the debate in the aftermath of Saturday’s shooting rampage in Arizona, that left 6 dead and 14 others [...]

Reminiscent of Pres. Noynoy’s attack on the Philippine media on what should be reported and what should not, the Lady of Wasilla who is geographically challenged, has this to say. (Ok. that was gaffe according to reports.) “It seems they couldn’t resist the temptation to turn a simple one word slip-of-the-tongue of mine into a [...]

First time I saw this in the Philippines. Security was tight when Datu Unsay Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. was brought to the Department of Justice. THERE are some things i don’t understand in the recent Comelec resolution approving the candidacy of some aspirants to public positions and disqualifying others similarly placed. If J.C. de los Reyes qualified as a presidential candidate, why not Nick Perlas? If Lt. (s.g.) Antonio Trillanes won as senator while confined in jail why disqualify Brig. [...]

Put Your Own Caption: War on Terror

December 6, 2009

On September 11, 2001, in the comfort of my home in Iowa, I remember watching the graphic images in New York in horror and disbelief. As it became clearer that foreign nationals were responsible, I felt the imminent threat closer to home. It was not the fear of terrorists possibly coming to the heartland of America, but the idea of the U.S. government tearing my family apart. I knew then that we would be going to war and my wife, a soldier, would have to go, too.

And so eight years later, almost a trillion dollars spent, hundreds of thousands killed or injured , many more families broken, and a new president, the war continues. And now, President Obama calls for 30,000 more soldiers to deploy to Afghanistan in hopes to finally finish the job.

Put your Own Caption: Maguindanao Massacre

December 3, 2009

Words cannot describe the tragedy in Maguindanao. We all know that politics in the Philippines is dirty and violent, but this is beyond every Pinoy’s imagination. Many have been mum in disbelief that humans were capable of this horror, let alone a generally good-natured Filipino.

The news and the images circulating around the press and the internet not only presents our country to more embarassment and prejudice, but also neglects the need for privacy and comfort of the families of those who perished. Furthermore, it can further traumatize the already bruised and beaten sense of safety and innocence.
