This is Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona. She was shot in the head last January as she was meeting with here constituents outside a supermarket in Tucson, Arizona. Her recovery was remarkable. That shooting incident prompted an agonizing national debate about super-charged rhetoric in political campaigns.
Today, I read that she’s resigning from Congress to take effect this Monday.
“I don’t remember much from that horrible day, but I will never forget the trust you placed in me to be your voice. I’m getting better. Every day my spirit is high. I will return and we will work together for Arizona and this great country.”
I wish her well. I think she displayed an enormous amount of courage and determination.
I have nothing but admiration for her.
