I have experienced Mayon Volcano’s eruption a number of times in the past. I remember, I was still living inside the Aquinas dormitory when it started spewing some ashes and letting out some magma. Eto yong Daragang Magayon Hall nang Aquinas.

I guess, I was being evicted from Legazpi City then hehehe!

Dominican run Aquinas University. Pansin nyo? Santa talaga ako? Hehehe! But hey! I had a great time sa school na to. Pag umu-ulan noon, virtual swimming pool ang buong area hahaha!

Anyway, the experience is something, I can’t explain it hahaha! As in, takbooo!!! Hahaha! Quite interestingly though, the more people flood Legazpi City during eruption! haller!!! while we, the aborigines, ran to the barrio! Ano ba?! Tabi nga kayooo!!! Let me share you some pics from the Legazpi City FB site.

APTOPIX Philippines Volcano

Here, you’ll see lava cascading down the slopes of Mayon volcano in Legazpi city, Albay province, at dawn Tuesday Dec. 15, 2009 about 500 kilometers (310 miles) south of Manila, Philippines.

Philippines Volcano

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, PHIVOLCS, has raised the five-alert level to three following increased activity of the country’s most active volcano and residents are prohibited from venturing into the 6-kilometer (4 miles) permanent danger zone.

Do not ever attempt for a barbecue party right around the lava area. They travel fast, trust me. My classmates? Member pa sila nang Mountaineering Club. Pwede ba?! Tigil-tigilan ako nang mountaineering na yan. Ok, fine! I was just afraid na baka isungal-ngal ako nang mga kasama ko sa bunganga nang Mayon.

Oh! Pero eto totoo! We heard from local residents sa unahan lang nang Aquinas University, pag sasabog na daw ang Mayon, nag-ba-ba-baan daw ang mga ahas! Bwahaha! Ayun, sabay sabay silang bumababa nang bundok. Can you imagine? An saya nila? And Aquinas is about 12km at the foot of Mt. Mayon, think how close I was na ma-barbecue noon? Ikaw na ang maging Darna.

Philippines Volcano

In the morning, Mayon looked very innocent. Wag ka, pag nai-irita yan sa muka mo, sasabog na lang yan without any warning. Remember the last typhoon (was it) Reming?! Reming’s fury was actually caused by the December 2006 ash deposits from a previous eruption. The rains helped it rolled down its slopes at the onslaught of that typhoon killing more than a thousand residents living around the volcano.

Minor-Eruption

Ok, truly, walang halong biro. You must experience Mayon Volcano during eruption kasi it’s a different feeling and the natural pyrotechnics is better that the ones you see at MOA or the Fort sa World Pyrotechnics. And the aura that you’re in the area is parang 2012! Wag ka lang lalapit dahil tyak, adios patria adorada ka! Hahaha!

Ano pa hinihintay nyo?! Byahe na kayo to Legazpi City!

Hi, reynz. Is that your own photo above. That is beautiful. You should sell it as postcards or to newspapers.

totoo ka reynz….. so beautiful yet so scary talaga kapag nag-eerupt ang Mayon. I remember, college ako noon at sa school ko eh maganda din ang view ng mayon. Tiyempo free time namin at nakaupo lang kami under the trees watching the volcano, nung biglang sumabog talaga siya…. oh my gulay nakita niyo na ba yung nag-mushroom yung ash and usok na ibinuga niya? Ganon yung napanood ko…. parang me pinasabog na nuclear weapon. You can’t help but a utter a prayer na sana naman papunta lahat sa dagat ang lava.

Pero totoo ka, its a once-in-a-lifetime experience kaya kung me chance ka, go and watch it. Even the bus travel going to Legazpi would be something lalo na kung nasa Camalig area na kayo at that point kung saan parang palapit na kayo ng palapit sa Mayon before the bus finally veers off to the right…. it is a sight to behold. Nakakatakot na nakaka-overwhelm.

one of the best experiences I had in Albay is whenever Mayon erupts. Haha I’m an Aquinian din (haha super loyal from high school to college) kaloka always pag nagtutuga an mayon and pagnagbabaha. Experiences na di ko pagpapalit.

I’m from the first district, so pagnagmega lahar di kami makadaan so kelangan kapitbisig and brave the raging lahar flow.. Hayyy! Thanks for this post. Namiss ko lugod Aquinas..
