I am a barriotic punk and growing-up, I have been called “Patay-Gutom” many, many times and you have no idea how it feels. Sibuyas, kung sibuyas but you won’t know how it feels if you were not born puritas. Lucky are these people who have golden spoons. See how they label people with a lot of insensitivities. Kaya, yanig ako when I read Cat’s entry and I really love it. I love it so much, ninakaw ko to share it to you all. So, are you one Patay Gutom Blogger?

I am just slighted by this PATAY GUTOM LABELLING no matter if they are really free loaders or not.
Si Ate sienna, nagtanong ng a ano ikamo bart kasi hindi siya makapaniwala sa nabasa niya.
How do you say to someone if he is a patay gutom blogger? First you categorize the bloggers to types of bloggers.
Then convince the readers that they are influential bloggers with little ahems complete with chest thumping.
I am still calm.
Downplay the traffic stats of some types of bloggers because I will tell you, their stats are not very impressive to be deserve the word influential. How could you become influential when your traffic stats a week is just a fraction of Reyna Elena’s traffic a day?
Then call the other types PATAY GUTOM BLOGGERS because they are what they termed as freeloaders.
A sumusobra kayo. Ano kayo si Annabelle Raman na bukambibig ang Patay Gutom? At least she is honest to admit that she did not get a higher education.
vWhat is this PATAY GUTOM BLOGGERS LABEL?
This is in relation to the competition in the “racket” of inviting bloggers in media events.
So you think that the bloogers-attendees only get free food which some self-proclaimed media event organizers bring home by “truck” leaving other people who attended the events hungry?
Some get paid. Some denied they get a single cent but they won’t tell you that they get other compensation in the form of credentials to attend media gathering. Some get priorities to freebies. What is amusing is that these critics of poverty bloggers were observed to bring members of the family to these events so they can get more freebies. If they can only convince the sponsors that their dogs are also bloggers, they could have done it. Patay gutom din?
And I thought the freebies are barya-barya. I was Wrong.
According to my source, when there are only a few bloggers who go to event, the gift check amounts as much as 5,000 per blogger. O diva, pag kasama mo ang katulong mo na inintroduce mong blogger din, may 10,000 ka. If you attended two in a month, that is 20,000.
The corporations sponsoring events want more bloggers. The marketing people of the corporations think that even without them blogging after the event, they can promote the product by word of mouth.
So the more bloggers there are, the better.
But the anti-poverty and media events groupies did not want this to happen. Their freebies are reduced and they find themselves in the company of what they call PATAY GUTOM BLOGGERS.
I am reminded of some partygoers from hell who cart the extra food home even other attendees are still hungry.
We, bloggers in the United States do not know about this “racket”. And I personally do not care. Sa hirap ng buhay, whatever freebies that people get should be appreciated for others. But to call them PATAY GUTOM, that is something else and blogging it in the guise of advise from a marketing expert is I found a little unethical.
When Reyna was criticized of his blog, he was called hungry CPA …translation PATAY GUTOM NA CPA.
I do not know elitist bloggers are fond of critizing bloggers on their economic status.
I admit, even without forensic evidence, that I say something about the size of the brain of my adversaries instead of calling them bobo but not patay gutom. Iba yon. Mine is a challenge for reasoning ability; the latter was looking down on people who are not a level of the economic status of the labeler.
Will someone educate me why we still have bigots among us?

Hi Reyna Elena,
I just read Cat’s article and I already posted a comment on her blog. If Cat, you, or anyone was offended with the term “Patay Gutom Blogger” used in the “4 Types of Bloggers” article, then let me offer my sincere apologies.
There seems to be a growing misconception that PGB = New Bloggers. That is totally not the case. When I wrote the article, it was really to give advice to fellow marketers on how they can be more efficient in their investments in New Media. The article was meant to be a warning to business owners and agencies that they should put some more research, thought, and systems in place to make sure that they are really getting a good ROI out of their investment in blog marketing. Like what I pointed out in several blogs and plurks already, the article was meant to be taken from the perspective of the business owner.
Thank you for letting me say my piece and I hope that you all understand where I came from when I wrote the article. Again, if anyone was offended, I’m sorry.

Are you kidding me?! I was not born yesterday. Justifying bigotness from a business perspective is way too shallow.
There is no misconception here. Patay Gutom I heard when I was in grade school in the barrio still means the same when heard even after graduating from MBA. They sound the same, they mean the same, they are actually worded the same way. Patay Gutom. It’s demeaning, no matter how much you put it. You have no right whatsoever to insult your fellow pinoys even if you think you do just because you are well to do for whatever reasons..
No apologies to me, but that is one stupid label and your apology is unacceptable. That’s totally politically incorrect and you should have known better. Never, never label your kapwa Pinoys with demeaning label on economic status. To me, it’s unethical, insensitive, insulting, it’s being mal-edukado and plain bigotry. You can never, never, nevah look down on your kapwa Pinoys on economic status – PERIOD. No ifs, no buts and no excuses.
Did you come short of a better word other than demean pinoy bloggers?

Hahaha everyday they just keep sprouting and sprouting. It’s like having gremlins on your house. One night you sleep and you thought you already ditched those batch of monsters. Then you wake up one morning and you realized there are new ones who mushroomed from their backs.
Where are all these people come from? Its like they are cloning themselves. Iisa ang tabas ng mga pag-uugali.
I Really wish that God would make the air here on earth toxic so that when too much air is sucked into the head, they would die with a bloated ego.
Forgive the guy, but let him write an apology letter on his blog without further explanation. That I think is the most appropriate thing to do. Yet its his own decision. Gawin man o hindi, I dont think it will still matter.

It never dawned on me that it was a really offensive word and for that I admit that I made a mistake. I used it in jest, to inject some flavor, but obviously it was too much. I could have used a better term to communicate what I was trying to say.

It’s called EQ. And one can learn how to have an emotional quotient. Touch and feel and if you are in business, there’s been so many blunders in advertising brought about my demeaningly categorizing people and consumer groups with such ridiculous labels.
Taking it down does not resolve the issue, at least for me, because I know it will resurrect. That particular grouping must be re-named not with some flowery words. These are things na sinabi ni Marocharim that are not bloggable or not said in public. What you wrote was fine EXCEPT that part and If I were you, I would have just simply corrected it by taking it out and coming up with a better sounding name that does not smack into one’s economic status.
With that, your apologies are accepted. Thank you.

A patay gutom’s primary interest is to get food/ sustenance more than anything… so, blogging would be the least of a patay gutom’s agenda. Freeloader may sound more correct.

i have no intention of reading the original entry from that new media person. sino ba yung tinutukoy nilang patay gutom bloggers? ang sakin lang, pare-pareho lang yang mga ‘yan. ke galing ka sa mahirap or mayamang pamilya, walang problema if you blog para sa pera. e kung kumikita ka sa mga “walang kabuluhan” mong pinagboboblog e anong problema dun.
basta wag ka lang mag-nakaw ng contents ng iba kahit walang kakwenta-kwenta ang blog mo, as long as kumikita ka e walang problema yun.

Damn, I never used such word – blogging man or in real life.
I’ve read the original entry ni Carlo Ople (with the original PG word in it). Okay na sana ang the rest of the entry. Pero what disturbed me is the use of the PG word.
They are marketing people and as far as I know in marketing, they dont use derogatory words. Instead, he could have used the term freeloader or any tamer or neutral word for that.
As I have mentioned in Cat’s blog, PG is a blatant insult to someone’s socioeconomic status.
E kung si Reyna nga e, tinawag ba namang hungry CPA (that guy did not do his homework, obvious naman) e parang ganun din ang ibig sabihin nun: Patay Gutom. Tsk.

I just found out that this guy is a Marketing Manager and a spiritual Christian person from a celebrity-driven elitist church… So what’s with the PG? Aren’t you taught in the church about humanity, compassion, discipleship, accountability? As a marketer, do you believe that there’s a demographic segment called PG? i did not impose for him to take down the whole blog. i was only after the politically incorrect and derogatory words. Patay gutom.
and even though there had already been arguments about the use of word, there was no change in the tenor of the blog entry. I believe that there was marginalization of people not belonging to their class.
yes, i agree it is about marketing, but little did he realize that the word could backfire to them as regular participants in events and media events organizers.

if the intent is to caution the sponsors for people pretending to be bloggers just so they can get the freebies, then he could have done it direclty to the concerned.
there are a few advises which are not for public consumption especially if they can hurt people’s sensibilities.

I have been reading this blog for the past few weeks. It’s obvious you’ve been hurting from the discrimination directed towards you. The blogosphere is full of that. I have many times been mistaken for an idiot and have as many times have to prove myself. I think it all boils down to writing. I sometimes am a lazy commenter. I don’t check my spelling and I write one or two liners most of the time. Still, I believe what happened to you was something else, since the person or persons who belittled you must have had a good look at your own blog and have judged you based on the personality your projected in your blog. They also know your real identity and even have information of your background. This things of course hurt terribly if used against you.
If you don’t mind me saying, your writing gives the impression that you are ill-educated. I’m not saying this to insult you. I’m not also saying this just for the sake of frankness. I’m telling you this so you can fight back with accuracy. If you shoot arrows, better know the make of the warhead if it will penetrate your opponents armor.
Filipinos are a very class conscious people. Most everyone is class conscious. It also makes us a very pretentious people (it’s a chicken and egg thing, which comes first?). It’s also the reason, I think, why as a people and society we are so lacking in real achievements, whether artistic or intellectual.
WHETHER Filipinos admit it or not, the wound of 350 years of Spanish oppression hasn’t even begun to heal. In fact, we’re like the raped virgin who wants to go back to his rapist for more.

This reaction only applies to me and I am not stopping other bloggers to express their own thoughts about the issue.
This is what i posted in my blog after getting the word that Carlos removed the offensive word.
UPDATE: I sincerely appreciate the prompt attention of Carlos Ople to the issue that I raised in this blog. As far this blog is concerned, the issue is closed.
He removed the offensive word and I take it as a sincere apology for its use. He could have stood pat in his entry but he chose to do what is appropriate. I do not take it as winning on my part. There is no winner and no loser in argumentation. There are only people worthy of respect for being humble enough to consider the feelings of other people. He earned my respect.

Re Carlos Ople’s apology and damage control: It’s sounds more like he’s rationalizing his blunder – doesn’t strike me as a sincere apology. Tama un isang naunang nagcomment. At may point si Cat. He may have deleted the offensive PG label, but the tenor of that post remains basically the same: elitist, holier-than-thou. I’m still relatively new at blogging, but it’s a good learning experience for me.

Aha! patay gutom. Label din po ito pag makitang nginasab ngasab or very passionate ka doon sa kainan lalo na pag gutom at paminsan minsan lang makakita ng masarap na pagkain at palaging walang sobrang pagkain ung pinanggalingan mo dahil ika nga inubos na nang iilan na may lakas loob na makitang NAGUGUTOM ang kapwa.
