I’m looking for Eduardo Jamora: the son who never saw his father, where are you?

Personal

My entry today is a bit personal. I mean, really. (like i don’t blog personal stuff! hahaha!) I’ve been meaning to blog about this for a very long time. What held me off was my being anonymous then. Dahil nga bukong buko na ako, I guess this is now the right time para isambulat to.

Iloilo Connection

Yes, my last name is JAMORA. Our grandfather was from Iloilo. I was told, in Jaro. We don’t know of any other Jamora in Bicol. So, growing up, I have always wondered if we were dropped from the sky, by a spaceship, here on earth from some unknown planet out there. So basically, this makes me a Pilipinong Amerkanong Ilongo na Uragon. At me anting-anting. Na nakabitay sa hita. Leche. Sabog pa rin ang ilong ko. Hmpt!

Jamora Brothers: The story

There were three brothers. Mariano, Silvestre and Dimas. Mga lolo ko. How Mariano and Silvestre ended up in Bicol, I don’t remember the story. But Dimas, the youngest, was left in Iloilo.

Dimas looked for us in Bikol

During my late elementary days, Lolo Dimas came looking for us. Akala ko nga, nango-ngolekta nang utang eh. The story was that, he started to look for us in Daraga, Albay. My mother’s last name happened to be very common in Daraga, Albay that’s why, like Daragang Magayon? Charing! Hahaha! Anyway, my lolo would then found his way to our town in Sorsogon.

Emotional meeting

I still remember an older guy knocking on our door. Kala ko nga Electrolux. Alam mo yon? Hahaha! My father came out to look. Before I knew it, both of them had tears in their eyes. It was very emotional, natakot ako! I didn’t know who he was. It probably took a good 20 minutes before my father introduced him to me. He told me that he was my lolo, my grandfather’s youngest brother.

Happy times

He stayed in our house getting to know everybody. He traveled to Sorsogon to meet my father’s brother. He traveled back to Legazpi City to meet the rest of my relatives from my father’s side. He was enjoying his stay. He’s got new found friends and relatives. He was funny. Pag lasing, nagiging emotional. Drama cry chorva, kesyo lungkot ever. But, we have a lot of respect for him.

But he got sick

I remember, my cousin drove him to Ligao, Albay. My cousin told me that he preferred the well-known albularyo.

But whatever it was that he was feeling, it got worse.

Then, he passed away.

But we had a problem.

You see, our Lolo Dimas told us was that he had a son named Eduardo. Unfortunately, not one in our family and amongst our relatives got to find out from our Lolo Dimas where his son lived. Not even an address. He only stayed with us for a very short period of time. Probably, less than 6 months. I’m not sure. Or baka a year. I don’t know.

Radio broadcast

During his wake, what I heard was that, my Chinese cousins in Legazpi went to Iloilo and made a radio announcement. We delayed the burial for weeks but never got a word from anyone in Iloilo. My cousins said, they went as far as Roxas to make the announcement. No word. Our cousins in Zamboanga City made the same announcement also. No luck.

The power of blog

I don’t know if I will be lucky to find Eduardo Jamora who is the son of Dimas Jamora, who we believed lived in Jaro, Iloilo. Or perhaps his family. He could have moved to Roxas City or Davao City or anywhere in the Visayas. We don’t know if he was married or with kids. We only know the name.

For my Lolo Dimas

I remember Lolo Dimas to have a really wacky sense of humor. He always made us laugh. He was very happy to see us. I knew it was a joke when he said na pwede na raw syang “mag-abroad” after seeing all of us. It’s been decades now that Lolo Dimas was gone. But the more I blog, the more I feel guilty. And so, I hope this entry will help me find his son.

The son, who never got to see his father again.

heh! kakalungkot naman nito. now that you brought it in the open, i’m sure you’re going to get some response. i’ll ask around na rin. unfortunately lang wala akong kilalang jamora so hindi tayo magkamag-anak. hehehe

family name such as yours is closely associated with jaro because it starts with letter J. and it’s not very common in other places. so that would mean those with that family name can be relatives.

i think your ilonggo reader luisbatchoy can help you since he knows the jamoras. so it’s a start. i wish you luck.

Hingi kang tulong ke Sylvia Brown, hehehehe.

Seriously Teng, ganyan din drama ng lola ko, nagkahiwahiwalay sila nung giyera, ewan panong napatapon sila ng lolo ko sa MIndanao from Barotac Viejo, Iloilo pero both of them were longing to see their long lost siblings again..

I got a chance to go to Iloilo on a field trip granted by the government back in the late 80′s – pero nung na meet ko yung the rest nung mga Tupas, ang yayaman, Teng… eh galing nga ako sa angkan ng maralitang magbubukid kaya nalula ako nung sinundo ako sa tinutuluyan ko tapos sakay ng owto (eh ang alam ko lang sakyan, karomata, balsahan, jip at dapor!) Day nginig to da bones ako at I must have looked so stupid I forgot to ask the right questions. They did give me their phone number para daw may contact kami… pero dahil sa hiya ko, di na ako nakipag communicate.

reynz Reply:

Hahahaha! Ateng ano baa! Baka nga long lost cuzin kita! Our story is almost the same!

I travel a lot sa Pinas then dahil nga mga clients namen dots Visayas and Mindanao. In one of my business trips sa Iloilo, nag-dinner kami nung owner nang Ace Aluminum. A good-looking, really nice. Eto ngayon, nag-tanong. I said, what?! I did not know na Jamora daw ang owners nun. Eh, ngeee! As in halller pala hahaha! Barrio siete ako, wa kami car, kahit kamo carabao! So, I said, malayong relatives ko ang mga yan. He even told me na he would arrange for a meeting, nag-back out ako dahil nahihiya ako. Alam mo yon? I’m not saying na they’re not nice, eh kaso nasa kultura naten na when your down here, and they’re up there, medyo iba tingin sa yo. Of course, I’m not in any hairline suggesting na Ganun ang mga Jamora. It was just hiyang hiya ako. So, I never got to meet anybody. Maybe there would be a right time to meet with them, like right now na bankrap ako? Hahahaha!

In Davao, I got to meet one. Student sa Ateneo but that was many many years ago and his parents definitely were not related to Lolo Dimas kasi they don’t know him. Other than that, wala na akong na-meet.

Sayang ano, sana nakapag enroll na tayo sa Social Climbing 101 that time anetch????

ba’t nga ba ganun, i hear a lot of stories na an yayaman nung mga ka-apelyido namen? taz kami poverty?! ano kayang nangyari nung panahon?! *hikbi*
