Senator Miriam Santiago was furious! She challenged her foes to vaporize her, threatened to resign her Senate seat and staged a walkout. Rumampa sya. In the end? Wagi ang drama.
Impossible Dream
Be compelled to resign!
“Let me serve notice that if I continue to be treated without the respect that I am entitled to as a coequal senator, even only because of my age and experience, I shall be compelled to tender my resignation as senator of the Philippines, and to bring this issue directly to the Filipino people,” Santiago fumed.
Vaporizing her is an impossible dream
“If my critics wish to vaporize or neutralize me, that is their impossible dream. But it is a different matter if my own colleagues wish to turn me into a monkey who sees nothing, hears nothing, and says nothing,” Santiago said.
Fighting corruption
“I cannot remain in the Senate and consent to be emasculated. Hence, I express in the strongest terms my disgust at this transparent attempt to play puerile power games with me. I do not think that the public will be thrilled … to watch senators fighting for turf, as if the territory of corruption were not extensive enough in this corrupt country,” she said.
How did this whole thing started?
What else is new? Sa Bansa nang Pilipino karamihan kurakot ang mga tao. World Bank uncovered a major cartel involving three Filipino and four Chinese firms allegedly involved “in collusive practices.” Because of alleged corrupt and fraudulent practices, they were blacklisted. They were bidding on contracts under Phase 1 of the Philippines’ National Roads Improvement and Management Program, known as NRIMP 1. World Bank said no funds were disbursed. They stopped about $33 million from being awarded. They are the following

Sen. Francis Pangilinan, the former majority leader, wanted to transfer the inquiry from her committee to the public works committee chaired by Cavite’s Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. or the blue ribbon committee chaired by Sen. Richard Gordon. When Santiago learned about it? Nag-wala ang lola nyo!
Former BFF Gloria, now enemy?
Senator Miriam Santiago recommended that Gloria Arroyo dismiss two of her Cabinet officials and for the House of Representatives to initiate the filing of an impeachment case against the Ombudsman for “gross negligence,” . They are the following:
- Finance Secretary Margarito Teves and Public Works
- Highways Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., and
- Merceditas Guiterrez.
And if the President will not heed her recommendation, Santiago said, “She [Arroyo] will have to take responsibilities for her own action.”

“I have made peace with Sen. [Francis] ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan…He did not know that I am the chair [of the economic affairs committee]. It was not even directed [at] me personally and, therefore, I apologize because I acted on a mistake of fact,” Santiago told reporters on Tuesday.

Sa totoo lang, Senator Miriam Santiago is one of my favorite senators (now, love me or hate me for liking her…hahhahaha) along with Loren Legarda, Jamby Madrigal, Pia Cayetano and the feisty congresswoman, Riza Hontiveros.
Seriously, they seem to work more than their male counterparts. Miriam has the brains and the intellect talaga. If I am a student in UP, heck, I would like her to be my professor! Kaso nga lang, because of her frustration with fighting corruption (it is a frustrating fight nga naman), nagiging uncontrollable na din ang mga outbursts nya at nagkakaproblema na din sa kanyang brain-mouth coordination.
Anyways, mas gusto ko pang may Senator Miriam Santiago na nagtatalak sa senado para mangarag sila.

hahaha same here! i know i blast her sometimes, bu if it fighting corruption at hindi lang for show – eh kasi nga BFF nya si Gloria ano? and maybe nag-iba ang timpla nya because she did not get the World Justice chorva position.
eh ngayon pa namang na-ti-tsismis na me koneksyon daw ang asawa ni Arroyo dito, so who knows kung saan na naman mapunta ang investigation na to. as usual, hoping again na maging fruitful.
else, dagdag na naman to sa pagka-haba habang listahan nang mga anomalya.

If not for Inday Miriam, senate inquiries would not be as entertaining. hehehe.. In fairness, if indeed her intention is to stop corruption, I hope she will be successful. Kaya lang minsan hindi ko na masakyan mga mood swings at kung kaninong side sya. Palipatlipat ang lola.

In fairness, Sen.Kiko was the gentleman ever during the whole brouhaha. He did not taunt nor tried to get the goat of Sen. Miriam. He just read the transcript of the senate proceedings when he asked to be clarified on the matter. HINDI naman pala niya diretsong pinalilipat–nagtanong lang ba, ika nga.
Me thinks someone goaded Maid Miriam into thinking that Kiko wanted her out. Sino kaya ang naging sulsoltant? Hmmm…

hay naku reynz, papano ka naman ba di magiging cynic paminsan minsan…
sa atin, matatatalak lang kapag galit at medyo naangasan ang ego, or me motive. kapag nakuha na ang gusto, tahimik na.
i personally know a lot of people who are up in arms against the establishment, yun pala gusto lang din maupo. kaya watch out for people na naghahanap lang ng koneksyon at mahilig maikpag photo ops sa mga powers-that-be.
i like sentaor santiago very much. she never fails to entertain me. kasi naman loose cannon talaga sya. kahit kanino, kahit sino, pag nainis sya, para sya laging pupunta sa gyera. i would have voted for her as president noon, buti na lang di pa ako botante.
pero kahit ganyan sya, na sa opinyon ko ay influence peddler din, ok na ok din kasi pambulabog dun sa iba pang mga kurakot.
sana lang, our lawmakers would make meaningful and effective laws di yung puro lang pa-cute.

1.) Bill to declare holidays
2.) Bill to declare a holiday a non-holiday
3.) Bill to move a holiday to another day
4.) Bill to rename a barrio to their tatay’s name
5.) Bill to rename a highway to their maid’s name
6.) Bill to rename a school to their name

Pasensyahan nyo na ang lola nyo kung balimbing at palipat lipat. Lam nyo na menopause na yan at un mga outbursts nya pabigla bigla dahil sa hormone count nya.

NAKUUUU!!! wag na nating biruin si Miriam sa story na yan, eh kasi below the belt na sya. am sure masakit yan sa kanya ang we would not be able to relate how muiuch it hurts for a mother to lose a son or a daughter.
Besides, grabe siguro ang stress nung bata to do good considering sa stature ni Miriam noh.
Limit na lang naten ang biro sa mga antics ni Miriam siguro.

Oo, nag suicide ang anak nya kasi hindi nakapasok sa UP college of law. Naghuramentado sya noon, ayaw bigyan ng budget ang UP at pinaimbestigahan yong mga nag-flunk sa anak nya. Kasi based sa mga stories nalaman ata na anak ni Miriam tapos pinag-initan at binagsak. Medyo idolo sya ng anak nya eh. Maliit pa yong anak nya gusto nya maging kasing galing sya ng mom nya kahit ayaw ni Mirriam. Sinasabi nya sa mga anak nya kahit di perfect grades okay lang kasi nga yong nanay nya dati pinupwersa sya sa maging 100% at top palagi. Did you know that she was working in UN (based in Switzerland) before? Umuwi lang sya noong namatay ang tatay nya. Tapos, she entered politics.
Yong video di ko alam kung meron sa you tube matagal ko na napanood yon eh. sa maalaala mo kaya ata or sa magpakailanman. Grabe sobrang haba ng story nya 2 parts.

I love Sen. Miriam walang kinatatakutan kahit si GMA or FG, per record ng Senado: consistent siya ang pinakamaraming bills and resolutions sa Senate over to the max. Tapos sa Senate hearing grabe ang style ng questioning, makikita mo talagang abogado, nag-aaral at nagtatrabaho sa bayan, sulit na sulit bayad ng gobyerno di katulad ng mga Congressman mag-imbestiga tignan nyo yung sa case ng blacklisted contractors ng World Bank hayyyy.
