What’s the buzz?
Quezon City Science High School (QCSHS) suspended four students who allegedly posted a blog that criticized the school’s principal. QCSHS’s principal Zenaida Sadsad also ordered the closure of the school’s two student publications, Electron and Banyuhay. Freedom of speech and expression curtailed?
What blog are they talking about?
The concerned blog, http://scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com contains articles and photographs against Sadsad’s policies and person as well as the students’ gripes over irregular lunch hours and required subjects, among others.
ETO ANG NOTE! LECHE! BASAHIN! GRRR!
NOTE: There is a comment that you will read below claiming that the link provided by Philippine Star is incorrect which was also the reference I used. He also wrote that the owner of that blog is still unknown. This commenter instead left the following links as the websites of those 4 suspended students. Please also note that I have several updates at the end of this entry. Now, according to the commenter:
Only that of eufems.multiply.com had its concerned articles removed, but the three others whose contents are most likely preserved are that of mychaelmiravite.multiply.com, ihateflattery.multiply.com, and oneonesix.multiply.com
What should be our immediate reaction?
As blogger, we should immediately rally behind these students. NOT. We all learned our lessons with that notorious Golf Brawl. Just as I have been saying, bloggers are continually redefining themselves, trying to find their right place in the internet universe. So, what one needs to do, especially in a situation like this, is approach the situation with a clear and open keyboard.
What’s in the blog?
Well, here are samples. I am still reading the blog. Let me show you what I saw and read:
“Death”
“Destruction of Kisay and six feet underground”
Die!
“All the bombs have been planted”
Should we now condemn the students?
Nah! Not even the Principal. But I do know that when you start espousing violence and death unto someone else, that is way wrong dude and dudette! These are also very similar to the threats that I have been getting from Reyna haters. Similar to the moonbat threat and this recent threat from Pat Mangubat.
Flashback: Columbine
Now, I’ve lived here in the United States since the other day long time ago chorvaloo eklavu that I have witnessed it on live TV (hindi yung aktwal na rat-tat-tat ano?!) all the events that transpired in most of the US classrooms here where tragedy happened. One of which was the infamous Columbine. Do we want to see a Columbine happening in the Philippines! God, NO!
Which bring me to Ely’s comment when I was chatting with him.
“Sino ba ang hindi galit sa Principal?”
Which is true. I am way too sure, that we all had our not so fine moments with both our teachers and principal.
I was going to leave a comment on the blog. I opted not to. This was supposed to be my comment:
Guys, slow down. I read the news. I got curious. Oo, we all have freedom of expression chorva. Uberly used phrase. But when you start espousing violence or death – then that’s completely something else. Kahit na freedom chorva, you need to be responsible with your statements online. Don’t be upset with me, but this is my initial reaction kasi nakita ko agad dun sa taas where it says “GOD SAVE THE QUEEN from death in Kisay”. I could only surmised, frustrated kayo sa titser nyo, sino ba ang hindi dumaan sa situation na ganyan? If you’re a better student, am sure espousing violence won’t be in your agenda. Be a better student, will you guys? After all “kayo ang pag-asa nang bayan”, i know, i know, laspag na ang quote na yan. Take it from your lola.
Why this unbelievable hatred?
Meanwhile, I’m still reading the blog. I’m trying to find out exactly – why do these students have so much hatred with the principal?
Your assignment!
And I know na me mga junakees kayo sa school. Kaya, why don’t we all do a community research and reading, come back here with all your presentations and assignments and be ready for discussion. Maraming dapat alamin. Hahaha!
- Why is there so much hatred amongst these students sa Principal?
- Given, for the sake of argument, na kasuka-suka ang Principal, what’s the best recourse for these frustrated students?
- What can the teachers or the parents do?
- How do you prevent violence in school?
Submit your assignments pronto! Take note! Wala akong boylets, at pag sinabi kong me PMS and lecheng Reynang Principal na to, me PMS ako! Dali! Work! Ibabagsak ko kayo pag wala kayong contribution! Grrr!

UPDATE
I told you, I was reading the blog. So this is an update and I hate that this entry will become way too long. It doesn’t matter for as long as I am able to give you every bit of information that I could get. However, I have to warn you, don’t make any hasty and unfair comments because we have no clue what’s the OTHER STORY and that is very important. Some of what you’ll be reading here were just copied from the blog and pasted here. Getz?
Now, there were actually a number of student/commenters there who were level-headed of which I was happy to see. They were asking the author to make the posts private and have these entries sent only to all the contacts. Here are examples of some very responsible commenting (or commenters?):
“Bilang isang estudyante, nararamdaman ko rin yan. Pero ang paggamit ng mga hindi wastong salita upang magbigay larawan, sa tingin ko ay hindi na ito nararapat. Lumaban tayo sa tamang paraan — sa isang edukadong pamamaraan.”
Or this:
We need to weigh both sides of the coin.
And these kids are scared. So they seem to be aware of the repercussions of what they’re doing.
Do that and we’ll invite the media. The media loves this kind of stuff.
I read the pages on the blog and I tried my best to summarize what I feel were their frustrations and complaints. Here’s what I have for you (copied and pasted here):
- First year students would not be able to experience the fun and joy the other year levels have experienced because there will be no more booths (ps2 booth, marriage booth, assassination booth, movie booth and others) on Foundation Day.
- A certain Sir San Diego was removed from his position.
- The electives became forced subjects. “Elective” was given depending on the section. If you belong to the top section then you are given a probably good elective, otherwise you will be given a hellish elective.
- Kicked the sorry asses of the clubs goodbye.
- Next on the kick list is the varsity trainings. She kicked their asses for them to have their trainings only on Saturdays.
- Aside from that she also loves to put shit on the face of teachers in front of students. Her favorite time for doing so is during the flag ceremony every monday. Among those people who were subjected to the “shit on face ordeal” was Mr. Hope Toledo.
- Another victim of her “shit on face ordeal” is Mrs. Leticia Lomibao one of the respected teachers in QCSHS. Dora simply said to her, “Mrs. Lomibao, I want the damn flag ceremony arranged! I want the prayer to be long! I want the students to keep their mouth shut during the ceremony! I want the ceremony clean!”
Famous Lines (copied and pasted here):
- “Ako ang principal, at masusunod ang lahat ng gusto ko!” she said that before she changed QCSHS into ZSSHS. Also it was her version of her clone’s statement, “Ako ang pangulo at wala nang iba.”
- “I have the power to suspend you!” She said that to intimidate the students who are against her.
- “Next time, if this happens again, you will no longer be allowed to train.” She said that during the flag ceremony after the Saturday.
- “There will be no activities after five o’clock everyday!” She said during one of the flag ceremonies.
The Gagong Traditions (New Traditions) are as follows (copied and pasted here):
- During the periodic exam, students will place their answer in an answer sheet, which is one whole sheet of paper. Also the students will have “different set” of exams. In laymans’ term it simply means, half of the class will answer Filipino while the other half will answer Math, after an hour they will exchange test papers. Also it is easier to “compare” answers with other students.
- Extra curricular activities will cease to exist in ZSSHS. There are no clear reasons why Dora will put those in a dumpsite.
- Foundation Activities will become a total shit. Rumors are, Dora will replace the booths with concerts only that she will be the only singer. The songs to be sung are stolen from Dora the Explorer and Blue’s Clues which includes, “We did it”, “Where are we going?”, “We just got a letter” and “We’ve just figured out Blue’s Clues” But Dora still got some nerves on her so the titles where changed to, “I did it!”, “Where are they going?”, “I just got hammered” and “I’ve just figured out what I want” There is also another song entitled, “Ako’y Sadista” (I am a follower of Sadsad) taken from “Ako’y Pilipino”.
- Alumni are also restricted from entering her domain. Dora’s reason is that the alumni are teaching students The Book of Amun Re (The Golden Book of Life) and it contradicts her teachings based on The Book of Anubis (The Black Book of the Dead).
Again, I have to reiterate – we don’t know THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY. So, please don’t make any unwanted and uncalled for comments.
Another Update
There is a comment that you will read below claiming that the link provided by Philippine Star is incorrect which was also the reference I used. He also wrote that the owner of that blog is still unknown. This commenter instead left the following links as the websites of those 4 suspended students. According to the commenter:
Only that of eufems.multiply.com had its concerned articles removed, but the three others whose contents are most likely preserved are that of mychaelmiravite.multiply.com, ihateflattery.multiply.com, and oneonesix.multiply.com
You must have a multiply account to access these accounts. Some of these sites were set in private and I’m not exactly sure if these are indeed the websites of the 4 suspended students but it’s up to you to discover and discern.
Now, I can only write what’s in my source and it’s properly noted right below my signature. I am not taking any sides in this issue, except the fact that I am one of those who dis-agree on espousing violence. If these students who blogged about espousing violence were in the United States, it would be a completely different story. That “story” I’m sure you know.
All the comments left in my blog article are the views and comments of the commenters and does not reflect mine. The blog sites mentioned above may no longer contain the original blog content. Again, it’s up to the reader to discover and discern. I am only presenting the information available to me.
Update
January 16, 2009. I got this one from Tonyo’s blog.
- The Department of Education regional office has stopped the suspension of the four students.
- As of Friday (Jan. 16), the principal has sent feelers to the parent of one of the four students that the charges will be dropped provided the student apologizes and would promise never to blog again about the issue.
- The students’ blogs, which are the supposed subject of the suspension, have not been publicly published online. They are for private viewing. The link in the entry (PhilStar) has been erroneously attributed to them.
- The students will be going to school on Monday (Jan. 19)
- The students and their parents will be speaking in a press conference on Tuesday (Jan. 20).

if you have problems with your principal then go directly to the local district.
There are borders that separate freedom of speech from plain disrespect.

well i guess my problems nga sila sa principal and they should like, express it in the “proper” or “orderly” manner….but let’s not forget these are kids! kids don’t want to walk up to the person they have ill feelings for, it’s just simply the “kid way”……..they never really wanted to hurt anyone……they’re only intention was to express their feelings, to releive their tension if i must say. the intention was not to confront, kids aren’t confrontational people, the intention was simply to ease yourself and perhaps find sympathy from your peers…….a blog, at the end of the day, it falls back on the defenition of it being a diary. and most of the times the stuff you write about a person in your diary was never, ever meant to be read by that person…….

I think alam nila ang sinusulat nila. The students are very intelligent. Mind you.
Their way of writing hindi basta-basta.
I’m not saying na tama ang ginawa nila. Sobra din na mapahiya sila just for that.
Pero its normal actually. Sama lang sakanila, may proofs that they said these things,.

maybe it was harsh (suspension) pero who knows kung ang objective nung admin is to send a clear message di ba? because if it was, then yong admin was able to deliver big. am sure, ang takot nang mga estudyante ngayon is grabe. now fair ba yon? i don’t know. the authorities have to weigh yong punishment sa offense.

ako sa kids ako, hindi just ang “sentence” nila. are we to persecute every person who feels ill against us? no. if people were only to write “positive” things, then we’d no longer be a democracy. what if all the student body had the resources to making blogs, then shall we suspend all of them? no. when the situation has come to something like that, when they feel one same sentiment, can it still be said that she “fits” this type of profession? you are a prinicipal, kids aren’t their to praise you or follow your every beck and call. you are a principal, you work FOR the kids

I just got bored minsan.

eufems.multiply.com, mychaelmiravite.multiply.com, ihateflattery.multiply.com, and oneonesix.multiply.com

i’m myke miravite, one of the suspended students of qcshs.
While I admit that I salute this “Lawrence Agoncillo” for his courage, siguro sumobra pa rin siya sa pagiging harsh.

Have you heard Trisha Zafra’s report that the blogs contain only song spoofs and titles?
People have erred in generalizing Trisha Zafra’s report about these comedic things. In fact, Zafra could have reported about only one of the four. As far as I know, only that of eufems.multiply.com contain song spoofs and titles [which were deleted late November last year], and as far as I can analyze, that report was only based on the blogger behind it, thinking that as a former Malikhaing Pagsulat student, he believes that he has the liberty of using satire. The other bloggers, having been journalists, have based theirs on truth and just added a little spice [which were their reactions], and are in essay form.
I repeat, only that of eufems.multiply.com contain song spoofs and titles. The others have theirs in essay form.

Guess what. You know me naman di ba?
I had to post it in a blog, for it would be tiring to type this in every single blog concerning the spontaneous reactions to the issue that was apparently closed until resurrected again by the Principal.
A lot of people, even the Philippine Star, are getting the story wrong.
Number One: The Philippine Star kinda erred in their News Feature [link: http://philstar.com/Article.aspx?ArticleId=432136, which points that the blog the admin is talking about is scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com but in fact, the persona/s behind that multiply account are still unknown. Thus, the school cannot suspend him/them. Rather, the four students made their own blogs which the Principal did not like. Only that of eufems.multiply.com had its concerned articles removed, but the three others whose contents are most likely preserved are that of mychaelmiravite.multiply.com, ihateflattery.multiply.com, and oneonesix.multiply.com
I repeat, the urls of the accounts of these 4 students are eufems.multiply.com, mychaelmiravite.multiply.com, ihateflattery.multiply.com, and oneonesix.multiply.com, not scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com
Number Two: Have you heard Trisha Zafra's report that the blogs contain only song spoofs and titles?
People have erred in generalizing Trisha Zafra's report about these comedic things. I repeat, only that of eufems.multiply.com contain song spoofs and titles. The others have theirs in essay form.
Number Three: It was not Ms. Sadsad who wanted the problem televised.
All I know is that she is not the one who called the media. However, as I ask permission from the one who talked to Trisha Zafra in the first place, I withhold some information about this until it is Ok.
The TV Report seemed too pro-Sadsad probably because the super numerous reasons why the bloggers blogged could consume a lot of time if shown on air and thus is impractical. Also, I think that Trisha Zafra was not able to talk to the bloggers, so she wasn’t able to get their sides clearly.
I hope you understand why the informations were vague. However, I would not let beloved GMA-7 get tainted by prejudice from misinformation.
However, it is not that pure pro-Sadsad. It was able to quote Undersecretary Franklin Zunga, who said:
“We have to be very careful about punishing students for what they are going to write because of the constitutional right of all persons, including the students, the right of the freedom of expression and of the speech. Public officials should not have onion skin. They should be more tolerant about criticism”
I hope and think Zunga is pro-freedom.
***
Please pray for these bloggers to fight these undermining of freedom of expression and to win their *excuse me, our* battle for freedom.
God Bless Them
God Bless Us
God Bless QueSci
Animo Scientia!

Tapos lagi din naman kaming may dialogue with the teachers and admin. Exclusive for girls pa kasi ang school namin noon. Bawal makipag-usap sa boys outside the school kapag naka-uniform. Bawal makipag date ng naka-uniform. Tapos gusto nila, medyas 1-in above the ankle lang for uniformity-kainis kung may peklat ka one inch above the ankle. How boring di ba?
Both in HS and in college, may evaluation ang teachers lalo ang mga bagong teachers. Nung HS kami may naglagay – you look like a cadaver in a coffin – hahahahhahahah…Yong isa naman – your clothes do not fit you…

this is actually a reflection on how people can destroy one person.
Its good you put disclosure for the commenters because this might turn out to be another crusade.
The students might have done that because they feel they are powerless. The only way to vent their anger is to blog about it. Yet reading it from all angles, the end doesn’t really justify the means. No matter how noble and human the purpose is, still one has no right to malign the dignity of a person. Even criminals have rights to protect their dignity.
This is the reason why even in non-sectarian institution, “values” or some sort of subject should be given. To at least remind the students about GMRC in and out of the school. Would you belive that even some of my young cousins studying in a catholic school is also tempted to do deviant things? Its not only in science hs but i think in almost all schools, students are becoming bolder and bolder. Minsan nga pag nagkikita kita kami, I always reprimand them na parang di nagaaral sa catholic school.
The bottomline is, and I am speaking of my own previous experience in my alma mater in HS, that most teachers and the admin fails to fit into the shoes of students. What students need is not actually rules, kasi given na yun sa isang institution. What students need is a sincere listening heart for them to be understood. The more you stifle the freedom of the students the more they will rebel. Yet the more they feel the freedom, the more they will set limitations on themselves. O course there will be abuses of this freedom, but compare the handful deviants who will abuse the rules, to a school wide crusade which will rebel. see the point?
when I was in Grade 3, the Senior batch of my sister went from house to house and cemetery to cemetery (all saints day ’86) to convince parents to sign a petition. When the semestral break was over, the Principal in our school who was a nun was relieved by the congregation of her duty as Principal (Our alma mater kasi is the sister school of La Concordia, Sta Isabel and Immaculate Heart – all under one religious administration). That was the first time in the history of the congregation that a Nun was removed from a school due to a petition.
The students of the said Science Highschool should have done that. But considering they are mostly scholars (correct me if I’m wrong), they really felt powerless because a subsidized institution is very different from a private catholic school. Private schools listen to parents because they pay tuition fees, but Science HS on the other hand is a subsidized school by the govt (correct me uli if im wrong) and the admin will always stress the “take it or leave it” options.
There will always be an iron fist in a government subsidized school.

i appreciate Bluep’s clear distinction between a subsidized government school and a private one in regard to the exercise of authority of the principal. call it the environmental factir and it does matter in the student-teacher-parent interaction. But in case the “free lunch” could turn into some habitual, offensive “panumboy” as in a mother-in-law overheard saying “mga palamunin,” then it borders on arrogance, a next-door neighbor of despotic leadership. It’s the equal, simple fact: public school teachers salaries are forms of public subsidies so why act like a grouchy mother-in-law (uy hindi ako galit sa mads-in-law ko ha) na parang metro ng Meralco.
blogging affords a more expansive space for self-expression and for growing adolescents, it’s almost a perfect site for their seemingly boundless hormones, on top of the fact that these are above-average students i assume with restless, more adventurous brains. Ms. Sadsad got a PhD and perhaps have read all of Covey’s books. But i suspect that blogging, dubbed as immediate journalism, has not been considered yet as a leadership issue, or a more positive view, a potential student’s resource. Personally, it’s a premier case of a challenged leadership (reynz marami ka nito) with Dr. Sadsad having overlooked the possibility of those boiling clamors leaking through a different venue other than the school’s official publication. blogging simply affords a seemingly equal bargaining power (yes, reynz, it’s challenging mainstream media) that given the stage of moral development of HS students, could appear as non-restricting to become grossly unethical. How would the present school leadership and leadership style now account blogging not only as a liability but as potential for growth for the whole organism? Perhaps, at Kisay, blogging is a little more tainted. Reynz, you know more of these “mantsa” in the blogosphere, hehe. Muriatic yata ginamit mo dun sa FV, hehehe. Stop na ako baka saan pa mapunta.

It’s tough for me to comment on the nature or the extent of the blogging penetration in schools in the Philippines. I know that Friendster is very much the norm amongst the kids and now all these multiply accounts. Now, given the propensity of kids to blog or hop into facebook, what about the teachers? Have they caught up or just trying to pretend they don’t exist?
My experience at Reyna Elena tells me that, these teachers refuse to recognize that Main Street has now moved to the internet. Kids no longer mingle in Mendiola rather on mendiola dot com. That’s where all the conversations are and that’s where all the actions are. The reason why I say this is because of one SONA entry I made where students copied my summary and a certain teacher found my entry and blasted me here. That gave me the idea that teachers are probably so left out with times.
I won’t comment on their salaries are that of public school and so therefore, my attitude towards my students should be equals to “a”. By acting “a”, the teacher is not being fair by pushing the system problem back to the students. Result: students displeasure. Which I believe is now the source of these disenchatments on the blog.
I think it’s the school’s negative concept of blogging, of Friendster, of facebook and anything “internet café’s”-ish thing that schools REFUSE to recognize the internets presence. This is haunting them now.
Like you said, which I agree, this blogging as immediate journalism or new media has not been considered yet as a leadership issue and who knows, a challenged to one PhD? I mean, that could be far out but who knows.
If I were Sadsad, I’ll speak my students language. On multiply. On facebook. On the blog. One word for her: Reach out. In leadership, if you can’t make it easier on your students to approach you, the you will have a terrible time understanding them. It’s as easy as that.
The school should be happy that the kids have all these blogs to release and vent their anger. What if? I could only imagine the marcos years on Mendiola.
So, to me this story is technology knocking.

Hello! I am Amor.
Why is there so much hatred amongst these students sa Principal?
>> Because she broke so many great traditions Que Sci. Natural lang sa kanila na magalit kasi they also take pride in the great traditions of Que Sci. She’s altering a culture established and cherished for a very long time . In our time, and even in the past, may mga reklamo rin naman kami sa prinicipal namin pero never kami umabot sa ganito karaming hinaing. Kahit naman sa UP, for example tinanggal yung oblation run and lantern parade, siguradong magngangalit yung mga estudyante and alumni alike kasi tradition na yun eh. Ang daming principal ang dumaan sa Que Sci (take note, hindi siya ang prinicipal noong time ko…grumaduate ako, si Dr. Cavo pa ang principal) pero di nila binago yung mga magagandang traditions ng Que Sci , some probably even made them better, then all a sudden nung siya na yung nilagay na principal, babaguhin niya lahat…talagang mahihirapang tanggapin ng mga Scientians yun.
Given, for the sake of argument, na kasuka-suka ang Principal, what’s the best recourse for these frustrated students?
>>Okay yung blog, napansin yung hinaing nila dahil dito. Pero sana nga di na lang silag gumamit ng violent words para walang negative na maibabato against them. Yung mga violent words naman, I think they don’t mean it. They just said those words out of anger.
How do you prevent violence in school?
>> Teachers and principals as second parents should show parental concern for their students, they should try to understand what the students feel and explain to them things they don’t understand through a gentle manner. Students just resort to violence if they feel that they are not being listened to and there is no way that they can express their sentiments other than destructive means that can surely get people’s attention.

Even before blogging was discovered as Weapon of mass Destruction for personalities some bloggers hate, there was already rhe trend of using students by another group of students or disgruntled teachers who can not fight openly as their instrument of fighting their adversaries. The students find themselves fighting not for their cause but for the cause of others.
When worse comes to worse, the instigators are safe. that is still true today, not only amog students but adult bloggers. Di va?

Hey Reyna Elena,
I am sorry, but you just can’t go to spurious conclusions, interjections, and judgment by being a couch investigator. If you really want to make a long rant on your views then I suggest you go to the school and talk to the students and teachers.
As a QCSHS alumni we are appalled with what has happened to the school. The students on the hit list are not idiots. Yes they are kids and they may have expressed their grief in a way not all will approve. But we also understand where they are coming from. These students are scholars, subsidized by the government, most of the which go on to become successful in their chosen field. They know what they are talking about. Most of them go to UP, and in UP this is nothing.
At the same time, while the acts of the four students may be treated as an isolated accident, you only have to step back to see that most student blogs have been critical to Sadsad. Add in the parents, alumni and the parents of the alumni.
Just imagine the outrage of all Alumni that the student paper, the Electron and Banyuhay were relegated to oblivion. That act alone is stupendous. For the QCSHS community, the Electron and Banyuhay are flagship organizations. It is one of the best school papers in the country, winning several national awards and annual meets. No principal should have the audacity to cut them out.
At least we are not dealing with students who don’t care if they have a school paper or not, who don’t care if the school don’t support their science conventions, who don’t care if their school is not excellent, and who don’t care if their freedom of speech is repressed. These are not apathetic students.
This post/open letter captures the outrage of the QCSHS community:
http://wrongbee.blogspot.com/
Open letter to fellow high school students of Quesci and alumni:
I am utterly enraged over the news that four students of my beloved Alma Mater, Quezon City Science High School, would be suspended because they blogged against the school administration and the current principal, Dr. Zenaida Panti Sadsad.
I went to check for myself the contents of the blog and there were edited images of Dr. Sadsad depicted as a dictator, stories of questionable policies, and seemingly endless threads of comments all critical to the principal, some members of the teaching staff, and the school administration as a whole.
I am aghast by the punitive and vindictive measures taken by Dr. Sadsad and her cohorts to suspend the four students. I am also incensed that the school’s publications The Electron and The Banyuhay have also been padlocked.
Going by how Dr. Sadsad confronted the issues raised by the students’ blog, it is obvious that her administration has not been giving the QCSHS students any meaningful venue where they can air their disgust and legitimate demands. The horrendous, illegal message is: “You complain, you get suspended.”
This is an outrage. This is a terrible violation of students’ constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression. This is a bad manner of mitigating disputes. This is not discipline but repression. From the looks of it, the students were meted with a rather heavy penalty but without due process.
It is in this light that I urge my fellow QCSHS alumni, parents and students of current students to press that the 10-day suspended be rescinded.
Moreover, let us urge the Quezon City government and the Department of Education to instead investigate the misadministration of Dr. Sadsad. For naked abuse of power alone, it is Dr. Sadsad who should be suspended or thrown out of the school.
Respectfully,

Mr. Israel Nicholas,
These are the kind of ridiculous comments I get. They will start with name calling and then end their comments with this: “RESPECTFULLY”. That’s not being respectful, rather, insulting. But, hey, let me answer your charges.
COUCH INVESTIGATOR
I’m not alone in this category. I could tell you that in the mainstream media, there are a number of well-respected columnists and journalists who are couch investigators too. There’s nothing wrong with this unless you start peddling lies and use your investigations detrimental to other people. Otherwise, it’s presumptuous that if one is not in the Philippines, then one can’t make a reasonable opinion on anything.
Therefore, I don’t need to go to the school and talk to the students and teachers. Technology does that. That’s why even if I am miles away, I am way close to the Philippines. Technology no longer makes us ignorant, Mr. Nicholas. You can be slow, but you certainly can be updated. That’s why there are online news, respected journalists where you can refer your views and opinions.
SPURIOUS CONCLUSIONS, INTERJECTIONS AND JUDGEMENT
First, on my blog entry in itself – I believe you will see the neutrality and I can’t believe you missed it. Now, on the comments section, read on.
Such is blogging. This is my blog. If you care to read some aspects of blogging, here’s one very nice blog entry that you can read to get you updated. Remember, I just said that technology empowers us that you don’t need to “drive to school and interview students and teachers”? Read on: http://smoketalk.wordpress.com/2009/01/12/its-your-blog/
My conclusion? I have said it and I will say it again. Students these days are lucky to have the blogs where they could vent their anger and frustrations instead of mendiola dot com. Now, that’s a figurative word. However, once they start espousing violence, that’s a different story. In the United States, given the violence in school, this incident could immediately land them in jail. That’s my conclusion, that’s my interjection and not sure if that’s a judgement though. But, your insinuation that I can’t make such, is wrong.
MY TAKE
I could see that you did not took your time to read nor even cared to read my blog entry at all. If you care to read, my blog entry was properly referenced. It’s below the signature. It’s not only properly referenced, I made updates, several updates. One of the update was from a commenter. And again, if you care to read, I properly noted the error made by Philippine Star and you will see a note directly on the error in my blog entry.
That’s what you call RESPONSIBLE BLOGGING.
Now, I could only hope that you read these comments I made just for you.

Hi Ms. Reyna Elena,
Pero pinabilib mo ako, Ms. Reyna Elena, for mentioning blogging responsibly. Sana naman, kung may criticisms yung iba, make it respectful and constructive as much as possible, hindi yung magiging character assasination ang magaganap (I am referring to the one who made the blog anonymously)
Also, if ever naman na yung anonymous blogger na yun na tumira sa principal e may valid na hinaing against the principal, dapat he had the balls to go to DEPED and file a complaint, hindi yung pinaalam mo sa buong mundo without going to DEPED. Parang na-bypass na ata ang DEPED dun.
Anyways, watch ko na lang ang blog mo for further updates para mahimay-himay ang tunay na nangyari kumbaga at ano ba talaga ang the real score. Medyo vague pa kasi ang ilang detalye.
Mabuhay ang Reyna Elena!

Hello Po!
It’s sort of judging without really having any idea where all the outburst of emotions, reactions and concerns came from.
We don’t have the right na pagbawalan ang sino man na magsalita. Pero sana unawain niyo na lang kami na naging part ng Que Sci if we are very much reactive on your comments kasi touchy sa amin yung issue. Yung mga estudyante na nagblog, protective kami sa kanila, because we have been like them, students of Que Sci. Pasensya na kung iba yung tingin namin sa issue because for us, it’s more of protecting our beloved Alma Mater and it’s beautiful legacy than looking at it as just a “responsible blogging issue”. For the alumni, it’s not letting anyone destroy our cherished memories of Que Sci and not letting anyone oppress Que Sci’s present students who strive to carry on the legacy previous generations of Scientians have begun.
I hope you understand.
Thank you very much

I completely agree with you Mr. Nicholas.
There’s a lot of issue on this case. Examples are: keeping the school’s tradition, making the school recognize the advances in technology, keeping the teachers up to date and use technology to “talk” to students to that there is a better understanding; communication with the parents and I could go on and on.
But given that the teacher did not know the existence of these blog entries, what would happen if say, the teacher would have had a blog of her own? Wouldn’t that makes it easier on student to send their gripes directly to the teacher? The teacher can no longer invoke “Oh, I did not know that!” and the student can be anonymous in commenting.
Blogs empowered the students. Why were the teachers left out?
Agree?

This would be my first blog post that is available for public viewing.
GMA 7 recently reported about the suspension of four students due to blogging against the school administration. It also sparked more blogs from the internet ranged from criticism and support for our dear bloggers. A blogger, wrote about it and he based his entry from the GMANews.tv article that was posted. UNFORTUNATELY, he wrote that the blog of the students is ‘scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com/journal’. That site is NOT theirs. Their personal blogs caused them to be suspended by the admin NOT because of that scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com post(s). That multiply account is used by a moron who just wanted to cause CHAOS in QueSci.
It seems that the other news writers and bloggers used tonyocruz.com as their source. A link on Tonyo’s post directs the viewer to scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com. It is under ‘a blog where they published articles critical of QCSHS principal Dr. Zenaida Panti Sadsad’. Viewers would think that scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com is the blog AND the news writers also think that the blog of the four suspended students is scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com
The site eufems.multiply.com deleted the blog posts that caused his suspension. The other sites still retain (I think) the blog posts.
Bloggers and Online Filipinos alike have their different views regarding the issue. Some would say ‘Goodluck’ and some would disagree to their actions. People even thought that the suspended students owned the scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com account. Of course, the contents of that site IS disrespectful. Please do compare those contents with the contents of the sites that I will be providing at the end of this entry.
The Bloggers and Online Filipinos even think that the four suspended students control the scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com account. I am telling you this: The blog entries that caused their suspension are published in their personal multiply accounts. Their personal multiply accounts are listed at the end of this blog entry
Personally, I support the four bloggers since the contents of their blogs ARE FOR PRIVATE VIEWING AND THE INFORMATION WAS GATHERED THRU QUESTIONABLE MEANS.
The URLs of the four suspended students are the following:
-eufems.multiply.com
-mychaelmiravite.multiply.com
-ihateflattery.multiply.com
-oneonesix.multiply.com
AND NOT
scientiaetvirtus.multiply.com

i was still a high school student a couple of years ago, and my school also had its shortcomings. some rules were vague, like how alumni can’t go in (which i still think is stupid since alumni were also patrons of that school and once they graduate they get booted out and can only return during the fair? so much for nostalgia)
the principal seemed like she was being a “wicked witch of the west” to the students there (i’m assuming at least 90% of those reasons are true), and i can see why the students acted that way. it’s been a tradition for many schools (that i know) to have booths during fairs (or something similar), to have school publications, and varsities to have practices that would end later than 5 PM. it was inevitable for people to get pissed off at those decisions made by the principal. when i read the reasons the students wrote i thought to myself, “hey i’d hate her too for being such a jerk”
hey, blogs are being used for good, but some use it to pick on someone. it really depends on the scenario. those students shouldn’t act that way even if they were really angry though. maybe they could’ve shown a lot of proof instead to move a petition or something which could really help.
I REALLY HOPE THE STUDENTS OF QCSHS WON’T GIVE UP THE FIGHT. (but next time, i hope they do something that the administration won’t be able to sue against so it’ll be a sure win)

Let me tackle the published gripes of the students.
The number 2, 6 and 7 are not about students’ rights. It is about fighting for the faculty members. Am I now right in suspecting that these students are not only fighting for silly causes like booths in the fair, examination regulations and some policies about alumin. Teachers and principals have the right to come up with their own rules in order to minimize cheating.
The suspension was already lifted so what are they still fighting for?
If the SAve the queen blog is not theirs as they claimed, am I not right that someone is using these students to air their gripes too?

just want to answer sadsad’s points…
“Mapanira raw ang mga blogs sa mga guro at pati sa eskwelahan, at labag daw ito sa code of discipline ng mga estudyante sa paaralan”
QCSHS STUDENTS HANDBOOK
IX. CODE OF DISCIPLINE
Students’ rights
Students have the rights to:
-express their views and opinions on matters that affect them
-present/air their grievances and concerns to school authorities and to except prompt resolution to said grievances/concerns
“Isang pindot, all over the world, nababasa. And it is against our school, the school principal and even the teacher”
“Maraming mga bata, mga alumni namin, will go to the school, diba? Ask the teachers, ‘oh ma’am bakit nagkakagulo raw dito? Yung ibang makakabasa, akala totoo’
salamat.
[Reply]
I’m a student of Kisay, and I really don’t like the way our principal treats us. She’s kill joy and inconsiderate, really. Besides, I know you have all heard of this cliche, where is the freedom of speech? It’s also sad for us, that some people butts in, saying negative things about us Scientians, while they never witnessed how we are treated.
[Reply]
I believe students from QCSHS know what they did… its not for us to judge them just because we read the contents of the blog. Its never enough! its always best to hear from those from QCSHS.
I just hope that students from QCSHS will fight for their rights…
“I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it”

i graduted from kisay. we had respect to our prinicipal in the same way the principal respects the views of the students. Obviously, the respect is no longer there. There used to be very good prinicipals in Kisay.. i dont think Sadsad has these good qualities. The students deserve a new principal.

dahil mga high school students pa lang ang mga sangkot sa issue na ito, dapat maging precedent itong incidente na ito, na magkaroon ng open dialogue at least every two months between the student body and the School administration, attended and witnessed by third parties outside of the school like the Lions club and of course the Parents. huwag idaan sa blogging, pag-usapan ninyo harap-harapan, remember kung ano ang isinusulat ninyo sa internet stays forever, and when you are looking for jobs, and employers “google” your names, of course what will come out first will be the bad feedbacks with your names attached on it. basta ang isa kung maipapayo sa mga kabataan na ito, bago magblog, or say something very negative against someone, count first up to 200, think not only twice but 10 times,
http://www.rotary5440.org/fortcollinsco/4waybrochure/ kahit na mundo nila ay high tech na I’m pretty sure these 4 questions still applies for them to become better Students and Citizens
The 4 Way Test
is it the truth?
is it fair to all concerned?
will it build goodwill and better friendship?
will it be beneficial to all concerned?
So try to address the issues on a face to face basis, I am urging you young people to be vocal but be vocal with respect to the other party and always put your best foot forward and that you will be respected by the younger students, you be role models.

We have heard the many accusations from the “suspended” students. We have seen the tainted efforts to paint the school under the martial rule. We sympathize with them.
We’ve given them their fifteen minutes of fame. And their time is up!
A Principal and 4 students don’t compromise the entire QueSci community. We are the silent majority. The little voices which still try to wake up early, troop to school, and finish the assignments. Some of us teach, give pieces of advice, drive pooled cars, feed Scientians, watch over the students, and worry what has now become of our school.
Our school which we have tried very hard to protect and devoted our lives into; which we have considered family, instead of finding one!
Our school which has given back to the community the best doctors, engineers, accountants, and lawyers.
Our school which has witnessed history and housed powerful individuals of today is becoming like the infamous Marquis de Sade whose oddity for pain and violence becomes the ideal—the hype, the in-thing, the new kewl!!! Blog the teachers, principal, things that are fancy; blog ate Duday!
Our school which gives honors to our family, which is dragged into the media pits, has learned compassion.
Compassion was the downfall of Marquis de Sade. He never learned it!
Through compassion, we learn not to use blogs to threaten people and become bitter! We learn not to be arrogant, head up and sashaying across the canteen just like a celebrity!
We deeply know inside that whatever pain we have given to other people, sleepless nights, obtuse curses, envious feelings, and just plain inconvenience will return to us, or our families’, ten folds.
We have accepted that not everyone can be put and labeled inside a box.
We have accepted that some of us enjoy putting a person down or casting judgment!
We have accepted that even if one has given his best for 14 years, but remain bitter in human relationships will remain teacher 1.
At the end of the day, Sadsad remains the principal. The students attend class. Teachers give tests!

Hahaha! I was amused by thesilentmajority’s comment:
We have accepted that even if one has given his best for 14 years, but remain bitter in human relationships will remain teacher 1.
We know who he’she is identifying and he is one of the most inspiring mentors in the school. He will always remind his students to do their best and do and choose what is right over what is easy. At this point, he rfepresents the last vestige of what used to be a principled corps of mentors.
We believe him because he chose to make a stand when making a stand isn’t easy. And the fact that his students say that he continues to be a beacon of values by speaking against questionable methods like plagiarism and unconsulted policies speaks that he continues to do what a good teacher should.
I just hope more teachers will have the balls like him to call a spade a spede, and not to allow their principles to be prostituted. We in the alumni don’t care if he remains teacher i, What worries us is that others get promoted even if we have filed complaints of incompetence and the like against our other teachers who we perceive as among the silent majority.
But I don’t blame thesilentmajority for picking to remian univolved and uniformed. To rephrase a popular kasabihang Pinoy, and makinig at maniwala sa sabi-sabi ng isang taong pabago-bago ng policy, at mahilig magtago ng mga dokumento, ay walang bait sa sarili.
I am happy that the Alumni Association has made its stand about the issue clear, and that they are not tolerant of the inconsistencies in QueSci. I’m also relieved that the DepEd-NCR struck down the suspension because they discovered that many of the reasons given by the administrator are inconsistent with the documents. But I am saddened by the fact that many members of the once highly-principled faculty has sunk so low, turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the issues and allowed themselves to be manipulated by believing prefabricated information the principal produced.
Quesci deserves a better administrator. Period.

dating student po ako ng QueSci at naabutan ko si Sadsad, and she’s certainly one of the worst principals i have ever encountered in my life(buti bago na ang principal ngayon.)

Here’s an update regarding the issue at hand:

We’ve also heard that Dr. Sadsad is intending to sue select Quesci alumni for “besmirching her name.”
