Oh! Mudra! Life in the Philippines is like one Harry Putragis Series. Golf balls misfired. Talcum powder sent family fueding. Cheap justices sent on vacation. Ang naguusig, sya pang inuusig. Mga sanggano sa gobyerno. Oh! Let’s not forget Channel NBN, Radio ZTE, fertilizer gums and double decker C5. I have a list. It’s very long.
Time for a break. Else, baka tuluyang bumigay tayong lahat, mahirap na, baka maging nasyon tayo nang mga me tupak. Manigarilyo kaya muna kayo. At kung ayaw nyo, watch this one great video and beautiful story. Remember this little girl? At that tender age, maybe all these trapos could learn from her on how to give the Philippines a really shining image.

And yeah, she’s from Davao!
Big breaks keep pouring in for Filipino artists in different parts of the globe. In Switzerland, 11-year-old Lica de Guzman has recorded an album produced by Paul Sutin, a record label owner and associate of British pop star Phil Collins. The album will be launched next month in Geneva.
To introduce her to the international market, Lica will grace Midem (Marché International du Disque et de l’Edition Musicale), the world’s largest music industry trade fair, on Jan. 18-21 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France.
Also in February she will perform alongside ABBA in a festival honoring Princess Lea of Belgium. To promote her album, Lica will have a US tour in June.
The 20-track, all-English CD has two songs which Lica wrote herself. The carrier single, an upbeat tune titled “Brand New Day,” has a Tagalog version (lyrics by Noel Cabangon) which will be a bonus track when the record is made available in the Philippines.
After spending the holidays in Davao, her parents’ home province, Lica—born in Geneva to OFWs Bono and Joy de Guzman—visited the Inquirer office and shared details about her good fortune.
Her achievement was the result of a long process of pursuing a dream that began at age 4. Lica felt the urge to sing after watching a video of Disney’s “Little Mermaid.”
Lica’s folks gave their all-out support and enrolled her in music school. Soon she was being asked to sing in gatherings, big and small.
In 2005, Lica became the first Pinay to perform in a special program on Television Suisse Romande (TSR), said to be the biggest TV network in Switzerland.
On her return to TSR for another show, Collins and wife Orianne, who are Swiss residents, announced that Lica had been chosen to be part of Little Dreams Foundation, which the couple had set up to train young talents.
Lica still remembers what Collins told her that day. “Sabi po niya, ‘Magnifico!’”
When the Collins couple divorced recently, Lica, her mom related, was asked whether she wished to remain with the foundation or join Phil, who had other plans—one of which was to groom Lica as a young pop star. Lica opted to follow Phil and this was how she ended up recording her debut album.
The album deal Sutin hammered out reportedly consists of a generous profit sharing arrangement between the producer and Lica. Part of the package is a house and lot for Lica in Geneva.

hahahaha alam mo na, gaya nang mga cheap justice at alabang boys, it’s called connections. kahit walang talent basta me koneksyon, solve. hahaha! sa labas kasi, talent lang and not about “kilala mo ba ako?” kiver kung wala kang koneksyon, patas ang laban between mayayaman. or at least ang “kalakaran” generally is ganyan hahaha

I heard about Lica from my brother Joseph who lives in Geneve. Actually, that girl already sang for the Prime Ministers of several European countries! My personal opinion – mas magaling yan kay Charice . The only thingy is that di siya na-invite ni Offrah (joke lang ha!) at Helen Degenerate (joke again). She speaks so many languages and I think she’ll have her cd out here soon!

hahaha I agree with you bugsey1,
no offense ki Charice and Charice fans, of course I love Charice, but I think these two girls are like worlds apart – not in a negative sense to Charice. But Lica has that certain finesse and you could see it from the interview in the video, just look at how she shyly smiles.
Charice on the other hand has a lot of perkiness and i’m sure, ma-to-tone down to as she’s being groomed by two of the best in the world, si oprah and david.

Maraming salamat po sa pagtulong ninyo sa akin. sana po ay ma “meet” ko po kayo. Maraming salamat po at nagustuhan ninyo yong kanta kong “Bagong Umaga”. Nag re-recording pa po ako ng 6 na kanta at isasabay na po sa pag release ng una kong album, puro po bagong kanta at ginawa po ito ng mabait kong producer, at composed po ito ng sikat na composer mula England.
