That?s Binay?s campaign slogan. Jejomar ?Jojo? Binay is embarking on an audacious journey from the ?Republic of Makati? to the Republic of the Philippines as the country?s very own ?Jojo Bama??much like US President-elect Barack Obama, according to news reports. He vows to turn the nation around as he did in Makati City, calling for ?voter?s revolution? in 2010 through change in leadership.
Who is Binay?
Binay, former human rights lawyer, served Makati as mayor for 19 years, is likened to Obama for his dark skin. Appointed acting mayor of Makati by former President Corazon Aquino in 1986 following the ouster of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos, later won the mayorship on his own in 1988, and was reelected in 1992 and 1995.
Political Dynasty
In a move his opponents denounced as a perpetuation of a political dynasty, his wife, Dr. Elenita Binay, ran and took over Makati in 1998 after Binay?s three consecutive terms, while Binay was appointed chair of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). Binay again took the reins in 2001 and 2004, and is now on his last term as mayor of the country?s financial district. He is often credited with steering Makati from a backward municipality into a highly urbanized city.
Made Makati its own “republic”
Makati is said to have its own ?republic? after Binay refused to be placed under the MMDA?s jurisdiction in garbage disposal and the number-coding scheme for privately owned cars to ease traffic jams.

Except that at the end of his speech yesterday, he said: ?I cannot run without President Erap?s blessing?

Binay is a man of few words, but with every powerful ones. He seem to be silent, but he has improved Makati a lot. The administration don’t like him because he makes his own way, which is good.
Naalala ko, pinatakbo pa si Leon Guerrero para lang baka sakaling matalo siya kasi wala silang maisip na tatalo sa kanya e….lol!
Now that he admits that he is running, I don’t expect him to see on TV singing, doing commercials and telling the people how much he loves the country.
I must also say that he can be a better candidate as compared to other opposition bets. Good luck na lang sa kanila..he3!

Jojo Binay came from rags to riches and undeniably, a self-made millionaire kaya as you can see masikap talaga. Makati won’t be like that today if not for Binay’s perseverance. So, if you ask me if I’ll vote for this guy? Yes, I will… ^_^

Naku, mukhang magkaiba pananaw natin dito. Hehehe. Kahit gaano pa kagaling eh beholden sa ibang tao – wag nalang. If Binay is really serious in running for President – kahit walang basbas kay Erap dapat gawin nya.
Unlike in the U.S. – our country is still immature regarding Party system and loyalty. Probably because we don’t have a real or true party system, and that the existing political parties are not that strong in terms of inculcating in the public minds the significance of its existence, its agenda, its policies, its machinery, its mandate, its membership.
Until a real and credible party stands up to the challenge of serving the people, sa christmas party at birthday party nalang ni Reynz ako sasali.

hak hak hak! nabisto tuloy! i actually had the chance to meet Binay many, many years back dahil ang brother ko (tunay na brother) worked in the makati gov’t although wala na sya dyan. of course remember ko, and binay won’t remember hahaha. but kahit na brod naten yan froi, i’ll try to stay neutral pa rin depende what happens comes the election campaign para makita naten who’s the best amongst the best.
what i would like to know about him more is that:
1.) ba’t kelangan nang blessing ni erap? is erap running for president uli?

yung mga political parties also are like seesaw and to this day puro lang naman personal political parties yan depending on what one gets what what in a party. everybody want to be president and of course we all know kung ano ang hinahabol nila.
hope we could learn more about these candidates in the coming months

isang comment ko lang dun sa claim about Makati. am sure Binay has got some contributions sa Makati for being a “Makati” but you know, we should never forget that Makati became “MAKATI” because of the vision and mission of the AYALA’s first and foremost. Makati gov of course was a great partner in continually improving Makati. Partnership yun eh, not one can claim the glory.

That’s something Binay should explain to the people. I’m not so sure if he’s the leader of Erap’s political party, dati si Alfredo Lim kasi. He cant always be behind Erap’s back – I used to live in Makati, and I know what he did. He can be a good leader. Now that he made his intention clear to run for President, he should take a stand.

Aside from his own political dynasty in Makati where his wife is the congressman and his son is a councilor, Binay is facing a corruption case when Commission on Audit recommended the filing of the case after it found irregularity in the purchase of office furniture for the new Makati City hall building amounting to P231.5 million.
He was also charged of hiring “dead people” and including them in the plantilla as ghost employees.
He has been in MAkati for so many years and it is not because he had made Makati progressive. AYala did it.
If he becomes the President of the country, is there no danger of him perpetuating his power ala MArcos like where the wife was made governor and cabinet member ?
There are more many presidentiables with great contribution not only in one city or municipality but the country as a whole.
So if he’s running for president what will happen to Erap’s “comeback”.
If he is the anointed candidate of Erap, will he not suffer the same fate as McCain whose link with Bush brought more negative impact than positive.
In fact some commented that the vote of the people for Obama was more of a people power against the Bush Administration.

The body language of Jojo Binay tends to show that he’s going to make a try for the presidency. Yong pagsama-sama niya sa lakad ni Erap ay isang indikasyon. Compared to others naman who already made their intention to run, medyo angat si Jojo Binay kung ang pagbabasehan ay sa accomplishment in running government affairs. Maraming charges din laban sa kanya which are all in the papers but still, people are looking for a somebody aside from the likes of Villar, Noli de Castro, Loren, Lacson, Roxas, Gordon, Bayani Fernando. Sonny Belmonte and perhaps, Erap. Comparing him to Obama is one packaging na ginagawa naman dito sa atin. It’s like GMA who, in her first bid as a senator, her handleers pictured her ala-Nora Aunor.
Para sa akin, parang testing the waters pa lang ang kanyang announcement dahil kasi wala pa syang grassroots organization to support him. Ika nga, kung may plano ka, kailangan maghanda nang maaga.

Those are different things. Pansinin mo puro taong may utang na loob siya loyal? We need a president whose loyalty is to the people. So far, wala pa akong nakikitang ganun.
Isa ang pamilya ko sa mga pioneers ng Makati so I know how far it has gone from the early 80s. I would like to correct the comment you made about Makati being damuhan lang dati. No, dear feuboy. It was far worse than that. Makati used to be a swamp. And Ayala came along and invested in Makati. Right now, Makati’s foundations (as in physical foundations ha) is made of Adobe. Ayala was the one who invested in and developed Makati; not Binay.
You say that you like it here in Makati because everything is free. Well, I tell you it’s not. Ikaw na mismo nagsabi pinakamataas ang MAkati sa nakokolektang buwis. Saan sa tingin mo nanggaling iyon? Edi sa taga- Makati! What angers me is that people think utang na loob natin kay Binay na maganda ang Makati. Bakit natin magiging utang na loob to sa kanya eh trabaho naman niya yun.
Sa mga classrooms ng Makati Public Schools, ganito ang set- up. Armchairs sa gitna, chalkboard sa harap, sa taas ng chalkboard ay isang crucifix. Seems like a typical classroom? But wait, sa tabi ng crucifix ay ang litrato ng mayor at sa kabila naman ay ang litrato ng vice mayor. At naka-frame pa!!! Nakakainis! How dare you, Binay! How dare you use our taxes to pay for those damned photos?? Pare, pinagtrabahuhan namin yung buwis na yun.

I don’t know why Roxas is crying foul on Binay’s new ad when in fact he was the one who aired the anti-Binay commercial with Teddy Locsin, Jr.
I also received several text messages accusing Binay of graft and corruption.
Binay will definitely win in Albay.
