When Jon Mariano decided to call it quits in blogging, na-depress ako, I planned to shutdown my blog. Charing hehehe! But this popular OFW Living in Hong Kong is back. True to what I love from this guy is this one: Idiot’s Guide: How Not to be Forced to Answer Questions.

I was about to subscribe for their webhosting then in 2001 kasi ang office nila nasa San Francisco. kaya lang biglang ginawang libre lahat.

i am not so much in commenting but i do it in any forum to correct information which is passed off as fact. this has been an issue ever since we started the blogging community back in 2003-2004 with yuga, sassy and other pinoy bloggers.
the filipino blogosphere will be embarrassed when a claim is made for a title which has not been invented yet.

This is actually news to me Cat. Let me capture what was written by Angel. (I have to repeat – this is not a take on Angel). So here’s what’s written:
As I traced back as to when blogging started here in the Philippines, I found an article from Manila Bulletin Online entitled How Blogging Started in the Philippines which was published on March 29, 2005. Here, Analyn Jusay learned that the first Filipino blogger is Lauren Dado who has been blogging since 1996. The following year, Analyn pubilshed another article – Revisiting The First Pinoy Blogger this time with an interview with her.

Tracing the Manila Bulletin article, here’s the 1st few paragraph:
Our little check showed that the earliest known blog in the country was started by a girl named Lauren Dado way back in 1996, when she was only 10 years old! We stumbled into this interesting fact when my friend Yuga ? in response to my question ?posted an article in Pinoyblog and on his website http://www.yugatech.com about ?Tracing the Philippines? Blog History.? Thereupon came several responses from readers about who first started what.
Luckily, we were able to find Lauren who is now a college student in Ateneo and has transferred her archives to http://www.nimrodel.net. She confirms that ?yes, I started my ?blog? in December 1996. I guess that makes me the first, though I didn?t really ?start? the whole blogging craze in the Philippines.?
Lauren recalls that she was inspired way back then by ?a 14-year old British girl named Hayley who had a blog before me and that gave me the idea to have my own.?
?In 1996, a blog was called an ?online journal.? It pretty much had the same functions as today?s blogs, except there weren?t any content management systems such as what?s being offered today by Blogger or LiveJournal. The blogs then were updated almost everyday, and entries were written in a diary format. I can?t really remember much of the content except that people never really wrote one-liners, they all had long, descriptive entries,? Lauren points out.
Lauren has a male counterpart in Bikoy of http://www.bikoy.net. He started blogging when he was 12 and amusingly tells us that until now, when he?s already 17, his parents still don?t know about it.
?My very first online journal entry was dated October 20, 2000 and it was hosted at http://www.diary-x.com. I came across several online journals even before I started my own. Browsing through http://www.diarist.net, I saw that there were already hundreds of online diaries before me, though I?m not sure who among them were Filipinos,? Bikoy notes.
According to Yuga, blogs entered the mainstream around the period 1999-2000. ? Since blogger.com was registered in June 1999, blogspot.com came out on July 2000 and LiveJournal started in April 1999, I guess the oldest true-blue blogs would have been running around those months.?

And so, we celebrate this milestone by revisiting the first Pinoy blogger whom we interviewed a year ago on the subject of “Retracing the Philippines’ Blog History.” Lauren Dado was only ten years old when she started her online journal which is still alive up to now via the Worldkids.net project. Now nineteen going on twenty and a sociology major at Ateneo de Manila, she continues to blog while downscaling those facets of her life she reveals online. I think I saw the catch, and I hope I am correct. Although I learned before that “we-blog” was coined, the year did not really matter to me.
Anyway, I am not sure if I will be the one to inform you about your interview at MB. But I found it. Whew! Kung saan -saan ko tiningnan: sa front page, sa orbituary (may ganun talaga!), sa ads na matagal ko ng hindi tinintingnan, yun pala nasa Tchnews D5 pala and I enjoyed it.
And of course, I learned a lot esp the advices to other bloggers. Yes, all of them true especially the “study the readers and create your own style”. I will save the whole page in my “baul” for nostalgic purposes, o kaya maibenta say 50 years after…lol!
