Ok. Fine. Sorry. That was another internet drama. Hindi sila. Ang totoo nito, indi lang ako binabato sa pinoy blogosphere! Leche! Pati kamo sa highway! Akalain you, yong hukbalahap na six-wheeler, eh me mga lumilipad na volcanic rocks pala! Ang kabakab na yun?! Di alam, reyna ang kasunod nya! Hmpt!
That happened Wednesday, Sept 24, 2008 along the Maryland-Delaware border. I was on my way to Washington, DC for my 5th and final interview sa Miss Very Very Congenial. Yeap, lima. Can you imagine? Kala mo naman, I was applying to be the next President of the United States. Haller!!! First Lady lang ina-aplayan kooo!!!
As you know, I was officially unemployed on July 1, 2008. Yeap, quit my job. I was weak but cute. Wez ko kaya ateng. Leche. Tumalon ako sa bintana.
After about a billion application letters, CV?s and resumes, so many phone calls to friends, classmates and kung sino pa dyan na mga sinow-syal climb ko, I wanted to be noticed. You have no idea how many application letters I sent and how many jobs I applied every day. I would send an average of 5 applications every day. Minsan, sampu. Yong isang employer nabuwisit saken dahil limang beses kung pinadala resume ko samantalang ayaw daw nila saken talaga. Well, what can I do. Isang click lang kasi sila. Eh ba’t di nila i-shutdown ang server nila? Di ba?
For every 1,000 job applications I sent, isang tawag. Telemarketer pa. I added some more. The ones who called were recruiters who?d ask for my resume and would never call back. Do you know what they do? Tatawagan yong mga employers na nakalista sa resume ko to find out if they can find a replacement dun sa position na iniwanan ko. Ganun. Ginamet lang ako. Mga tarantadong yun!
And so, I was left with 4 choices.
- I kicked out Boston, which was not a fit for a royal queen like me. Ayokong mag-linis nang onidoro.
- I like Philadelphia because foreign travels include New Delhi and London. Eh kaso, mga lalaki sa Navy Yard, puro tukso.
- I like Washington, DC because it was high-profile. Malapit sa White House.
- I like Chicago, too. also high-profile. Nasa 32nd floor.
Philadelphia did not call back anymore. Their offices was in the swanky Navy Yard. I guess, they were afraid, I?d be out there in the Navy Yard doing some full blast accounting of the many good-looking guys wandering around. I?m not losing any morality with a little flirting counting around, di ba? I mean, kung maganda ka, you have to display it. So, I don?t know what?s wrong with them.
So, it was a choice between Chicago and Washington, DC.
Chicago made an offer last Friday. They wanted me to start last month.
Washington, DC made an offer today. I guess, it must be the pull of living in Philly for the past 20-sum years which is why I preferred Washington DC. There were 5 people who interviewed me last Wednesday, September 24. The partner of their CPA firm, the Chief Operating Officer, the Executive Director and finally, the Controller.
THE CONTROLLER?! Bakkeettt? Because if I accept the job, the Controller will be reporting to me. This was one of the weirdest interview I ever had. It was an overkill. They could have just taped my answers to all the basic question repeated.
DC made an offer. It all boiled down to glitters, sparkles and a sash (which I won’t tell you! hehehe).
Both cities were beautiful. Very green. One is very political. The other, not much politics but equally cosmopolitan with some really cute guys hehehe! This is Chicago.
MY CHOICE?
I’ve lived here in Philadelphia for 20-sum years. I’m so darn ancient in here. If I live here for another month, they’ll probably move me to the Art Museum. There are dozens and dozens of Art Museums here. Which is why I focused my search to Boston, Washington DC, Chicago and San Francisco. Away from Philadelphia. I’ve had enough of Philly Cheesesteak. It’s time for me to go to another wonderland, but Philly will forever be my home.
So, I accepted the Chicago offer this afternoon.

I wish to be successful in Chicago. Dun na ako makikipag-santacruzan and I’m ready with all my social climbing skills. New beginning. New friends. Pa sex-change na kaya ako?!
So, let me take you on a taxi ride around Chicago. My soon-to-be new home. With a time difference of an hour behind and about 15-16 hours drive from Philadelphia, 2-3 hours by plane, a phone call away and just a chat or YM away.
