I flew to Chicago kahapon mga kunichiwa for a one-day flight. Philadelphia is an hour ahead of Chicago. Travel time? 3 hours – tipong a little less time than flying from Manila to Tokyo. Ganun kalayo.
Last Thursday kasi, my dear recruiter called again, for the second time around once more forever. ~Strike a pose~ *shocked*!!! She wanted me to book a flight to Chicago for an interview. Huh?! And so ura-uradang I called my travel agent, who went frantically searching for the next available flight to Chicago, send naman saken travel info, then forward ko naman sa recruiter. Paka-received pala nung recruiter, she called my travel agent pala, only to tell her na sila daw ang mag-bo-book in Chicago. Bwa hahaha! Anu yun?! Umusok tuloy sa galet ang travel agent ko. Kasumpa-sumpang pagmumura ang inabot ko.
Eto ang O’Hare International Airport. Sa laki, wala akong malitrato.
Except sa airport, this is my first time in Chicago. About 35 minutes later, nasa downtown na ako. Looked very much like New York.
The buildings.
The sidewalk are wider
Definitely cleaner than both New York and Philadelphia.
Newspapers were better organized than those ugly looking newspaper dispensers you see in the East Coast!
As if by cue, alas nueve-y-medya-impunto, I was there. Ready to be interrogated. No holds bar personal questions interview.

- Recruiter: “What do you know about Washington, DC?”
- Reynz: “Well, I know Bush lives there and he’ll only be there ’till January. And if you hire me, we’ll both be looking for apartments together. I don’t wanna room with him though.”
- Recruiter: Nabuhusan nang kape.
Walang halong biro, nini-nerbyos kasi ako when she came out. Masyadong authoritative ang aura and I wanted to make things easy, nice and wala lang. Kasi, nanga-ngatog ang tuhod ko eh! Hehehe!
- Recruiter: “How’d you end up the United States”
- Reynz: “That bitch, Imelda Marcos? She ransacked our Central Bank and bought 3,000 pairs of shoes. Then my turd world kawntri went bankcrupt. So, I paddled my boat to America.
- Recruiter: Hinika.
It was by far the longest interview I ever had. I even did a small presentation, “the theory of magnetic levitation“. Of course, wez ko na i-share ang mga sagot ko sa mga technical questions and how I intelligently responded to “how the earth was formed“. We went personal at sinagot ko nang dibdiban ang tanong na “what is life?”. Kaya nung natapos, nag-lamierda ang lola!
First thing I did was check the City Information na nag-kalat sa sidewalk para its easy mahanap kung saan ang hadaan dito.
I was prancing around.

Pilit na lumalabas ang palikpik ko when I saw wootah!
Nahiya ako, tapat pala to nang City Hall!
I like this place! Andaming guapo! Hiya ako to take pics! Mahahalatang kaba-baba ko lang nang bundok. So, I continued prancing around at me nakita ako! Flag nang Barrio Siete!!!
Curious lang ako kung naka-bahag ang mga Pinoys here, but I didn’t see anything nung pumasok ako. Was that a Post Office? There must be a Consulate inside.
Lakad mga paa! I have no idea where I’m headed! Basta cute sinusundan ko! Keri kung tatalon sya sa lake!
This city is really nice! Like New York but very laid back! And the people here? Nakakapagtaka! They’re very nice!

Anlalawak talaga nang mga sidewalk. Swak na swak magtinda nang isaw.

Until I ended up here. Park?! Park?! Hehehe! Alam u naman pag park ang napuntahan nang lola ano?

At ang bumulaga saken was this one . . . Anoto?! Para syang sum’tin sum’tin na bumagsak galing sa black hole! O baka eto yung kubeta nang space station?

Wishing on the stars na sana lumakas ang hangin at ilipad yong shirt! Hehehe! I love this job interview! Don’t ya wish lahat nang interview is like this?! Hahaha!
Ekkkkkk! Gumalaw! German pala sya! Hehehe! Narinig ko kasing me tinanong sya sa katabi nya. Of course di ko naman naintindihan noh? Baka he was asking kung legal nang tumigbak nang tao dahil siguro napansin ang ginagawa ko sa likod! Hehehe!
Natakot ang lola. Walk na lang ako tutal mag-a-alas dos na ang I was only staying here for the day at uwi din naman ako sa Philadelphia!
Maganda mag-laro nang tagu-taguan dito! Hehehe
Ang ganda kasi nang weather, kaya pagka ganito, nag-lalabasan ang mga kano!
I headed back to the airport. Sosyal sila. They have an express lane to the airport.
Magnifying glass not needed. Maganda at readable ang mga signage. Di ka mawawala.
Even when you make a turn, andun pa rin ang clear signage.
Eto ang sinakyan ko. United together.
And for our last photo?
Siya si Country Boy. Chinika ko! Hehehe! Seatmate nang lola! Wala syang kawala. Hahaha! Rancher pala ang drama. In other words, nanga-ngabayo. Wow! Hehehe! Worked for three straight months sa Montana – yon bang parang Brokeback Mountain! Totoo pala yon! He goes back to Lancaster County. I have his email address mga kunichiwa! Hehehe! And Lancaster County is about 2 hours away from Philly. Isa syang probinsya. Let’s see what happens with my Country Boy!
Oh, the Interview? The interview went very well. I didn’t realize, na when I was boarding the plane back to Philly that early evening, nag-iwan pala nang message yong recruiter. She called her client immediately and they wanted me to call in the morning for an schedule to go to Washington DC next week. So, I hope WORLD PEACE na to mga kunichiwa. Kaya, I’ll be down to Washington DC next week for another interview!

Good Luck Reynz sa result ng interview mo,pero just imagine pina book ka ng flight just for that inerview, wow grabe, super bigtime siguro yong offer syo no, Sensya na hindi masyado nakaka comment,bukod sa nasira PC ko, eh eto medyo struggling din ako sa bagong work ko (Thomson Reuters), we are forced to learned things so fast, and some certifications like ITIL Certifications na kailangan ipasa as in part ng requirements when we were hired,buti na lang naipasa naman, ngayon pa lang yata ako nakaka pag adjust2x. I remember halos sabay din tayong nag resign sa mga previous company natin.
