Weird Alexa rankings!

Alexa rankings is probably one of the weirdest, erroneous and misleading metrics out there! Let me prove to you what I am talking about!

I got interested with Alexa when this blog ranked me as one of the Top 50 Philippine Blogs based on Alexa rankings. Of course, that was very nice of them to include me in the listings, after all, getting all of those numbers and ranking them is a job. Kudos to them!

You see, I have this tendency to verify, check, investigate, analyze and examine things, stuff, matter, etc and when I am not satisfied? hahaha! I have the notoriety of not stopping until I get some sense of comfort of what it is and finding some answers as to the why’s and everything. And something was not right because the two metrics I was using was telling me a different story and this darn Alexa was going the opposite way! Halller!!!

Now, of course, before you get ranked by Alexa, you need to do la cu-cu-racha. Download this, download that, toolbar here, toolbar there! They even have all these shit about redirect chorva chorva. Yeap, done that! As a matter of fact, nag-nobeena pa ako at nag-alay nang manok to the gods, so people would link me up! Punyeta! Grrrr! (sorry cath! hahaha)

I really want to bring them to the Court of Appeals in the Philippines. Except that… ahh… I’m not earning enough anymore in blogging. Hahahaha!

Anyway, you know what bothers me mga kunichiwa?

I use two (2) other metering system, essentially so I would have two (2) different metrics. As you know, I sort of analyze what my readers are looking for and of course, I check the traffic, where it is coming from and how effective are my articles in trying to reach what type of audience I attract.

In most of the metrics that I am using, the traffic has been on an upswing and it literally exploded about a month before SONA up to now. I’m sure nakikita nyo naman sa counter ko kung ilan ang nag-si-sik-sikan dyan in an hour. On a standard regular day though, with no dramas in the Philippines or in the United States, my readership looked like this:

Today (July 31, 2008), it looked more like the entire archipelago was having some party in my blog.

Meanwhile, my Alexa rankings has been going on the opposite direction. I watched my Alexa rankings ever since I was ranked as one of the Top 50 chuvalais. It used to be in the 122k range. From there, it was sliding so fast, any Olympic skier would fall flat in their face with disgust as to how fast it fell. Let me show you how it was in the span of 6 months going down.

And then it went to this:

Did you noticed that I checked off 7 days? Those were the 7 days that I had a record readership and page views and Alexa says zero. I wonder if Alexa is one of Comelec’s division? Do you know?! It registered nothing! As in kahit isang singhot, wala! Hahaha!

So, I thought, having done my assignment, with all my proofs and evidence, I was ready to do the cha-cha and issue my state of alexa address to them. Which I did. I sent them a really, really nice email na pramis indi nag-end sa punyeta. Result?

The hearbeat came back! But here’s the funky part! My rank still continued to slide down from about 122,000 to 201,947 and then to 207,635 hahaha! (Read: the higher the number, the lower your rank)

What in the world am I doing wrong? Do I have to wear Alexa panties for WORLD PEACE so their numbers will get right? Do I have to decorate my house with all Alexa toolbar for this thing to work? Understand that I am suffering from serious ADS and ADD and I need some bloody serious attention here Alexa! Somebody feed my egooo!!! I am trembling!!! Grrrr!

ay ako nalagas ng halos isang daan ang technorati authority. biruin mo yun, halos isang daan! hindi ko alam kung anong nangyayari, may butas ata ang blog ko.

isa lang ang ibig sabihin nito, hindi masyadong reliable ang mga statistic chovarloos na yan.

ang gawin natin, itara na lang natin ang ating trafic at links ng MANO-MANO. lols!

na-notice ko nga rin ‘yan mother reynz, feeling ko, may irregularities nga sa Alexa Commission, hehehe. Sa internet explorer, mababa ang ranking ko, sa firefox, mababa pa rin pero anlaki ng agwat nila sa i.e, if I go to alexa.com and check it again, iba naman ang resultang lumalabas, ano ver? hindi consistent ang alexa, kaloka. hmmpt….

hahaha even sitemeter and IE7 nagkakalokohan din sila that’s why firefox na ang gamet ko, ewan ko ba dito sa mga rankings na to puro din pala sira hehe
