I honestly don’t quite understand what’s going on in my dear country. This must really be the true State of the Nation. First, Malaysia deported a lot of so-called illegal Filipinos in Sabah. Interestingly, the deportations were very, very timely with the proposed referendum in the ARMM. I wonder why?

Then, Bangsamoro is being created as a separate State within the Republic of the Philippines? Help me out in here. I don’t seem to understand. Are we a Federal Government? Or the Philippines is now being sub-divided? Someone help me please!!!

LORD, help my country! Because the “Arroyo administration owes the nation an explanation” says the newspaper which is pretty much what I need too. Why Arroyo? Why?

Is this goodbye Mindanao?!

Maybe because majority of the people there are Muslims.

The scary part is what Lacson and other Senators are saying, in order for the government to allow such rqst by the MILF, the Arroyo Govt need to amend the Constitution which in fact what Doña Gloria wanted to do in order to stay in power.

Sana h’wag mangyari dahil sobra na ang hirap nating mga Pilipino under the Arroyo Government.

    6. Me too. I cant understand why they are doing this. First the spratlys, now mindanao… Is this bitch really up to something worth impeaching?

People will really get angry this time if this will push through…

I agree with akong’s theory. Just to escape responsibility and financial obligation they are giving away Mindanao which is a stupid, very stupid governance…

    10. agree ako sinabi mo Ah’kong. and torn din ako sa idea na they should have an independent nation. kasalanan to nang mga ayuf na kurakot sa gobyerno who got nothing else to do eh payamanin ang sarili nila starting with the marcoses at ang mga sumunod pa. but di lang naman mga muslim ang pinabayaa nila, look at bicol ba’t andaming npa dun.

there was already an idea na gawing federal state ang pilipinas at least they can have their own state courts and everything pero part pa rin nang pilipinas if that will resolve the problem.

pero have their own army? have their own taxing authority? independent nation na yun kahi na ano pang sabihin ni Esperon sa media!

sabah is owned by pinas di ba? taz ang nasa negotiating table eh malaysians? siempre malaysians will craft something to their advantage! if you read the MOA, grabe ang economic power na binibigay sa ARMM sobra sobra! ano ang nangyari nang mga Philippine negotiators? tameme? parang halos binigay na lang and then, the nation should have been consulted wala man lang!

Samar together with Iloilo, Negros and Bohol will declare independence from the Imperial Cebu. Pangasinan and Masbate will also declare independence from Ilocos, and Bicol respectively. Camarines Norte will rejoin the remaining Philippines while the remainer of Bicol will split into two, “Naga” Bicol and “Legazpi” Bicol. hehe

Statement of Press Secretary Jesus Dureza:

We submit to the sound discretion of the Supreme Court. The signing set for Tuesday will not take place.

On a positive note, the TRO will provide opportunity for everyone now to dispassionately and objectively view and examine the draft MOA. An early legal and constitutional test will further strengthen the agreement.

Some sectors may view this as a delay in the timetable of the peace process. Mindanao has waited so long for this historic breakthrough on the efforts to bring peace. A little delay will not matter if ultimately we achieve what every Mindanaoan has long been dreaming of.

      Reaction from former President Estrada:

Former President Joseph Estrada commends the Supreme Court for granting the Temporary Restraining Order that will momentarily stop the signing of the ancestral domain deal between government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) while condemning the Arroyo administration for sanctioning the controversial MOA, saying such moves could even amount to treason. “The foremost duty of the President is to protect the territorial integrity of the nation,” Estrada said, “We all desire peace in Mindanao but it must not be obtained at the expense of our territorial integrity, and certainly not by methods that desire transparency and are in apparent haste.”

      Reaction from Sen. Kiko Pangilinan:

We welcome the timely intervention of the Supreme Court. While we are all in favor of a just and lasting peace in Mindanao, a peace agreement that has far-reaching implications in the lives of millions affected by the armed conflict cannot be shrouded in near secrecy if it is to have any chance of success. The haste to sign the agreement without the benefit of a wider participation of all stakeholders will only do greater harm than good.

A portion of Fr. Eliseo Mercado’s commentary “MOA -Quo Vadis?”

The way Government negotiated the MOA would appear that it will NOT deliver on its commitments. Thus I have made observations that point to the seeming “bad faith” of government in the negotiation of the MOA.

In an earlier forum, I have raised the issue of Government’s real motive in coming up with this MOA knowing fully well that it cannot deliver. Is it simply a feather in its cap and feather it shall remain…? Or is this a plan to use the MOA for something more “sinister” like perpetuating itself beyond 2010 through charter change?

Board members from southern Palawan, where the municipalities of Balabac and Bataraza are located, said they would file a resolution in the provincial legislature questioning the inclusion of Palawan territories in the peace deal, as other local officials expressed strong objections to it.

    44. UPDATE: Opinion on Philippine Star

      Opinion
The untold realities of the MILF Pact
AS I WRECK THIS CHAIR By William M. Esposo
      Tuesday, August 5, 2008
I will be clear as to where I stand on the issue of the Moro Ancestral Domain — I am not against it. People who are willing to fight as long as they did, as hard as they did, deserve their just rewards.
On the other hand, we non-Muslim Filipinos are mostly good for oral battles only. Those who are saying a mouthful against that Moro Ancestral Domain are only good for media bytes and won’t even think of going to Mindanao to contest the issue with the Moro fighters.
A policy adviser of the think tank Institute for Autonomy and Governance (IAG) was quoted as saying that the MOA reveals all the elements to qualify as a state which are government, people, and territory. The US role in brokering this deal, in effect, gives it international recognition.
However, I believe that it will do Filipinos a lot of good to scrutinize the circumstances that led to this historic development. Specifically, we must know just what exactly the US did behind the scenes towards the promotion of the Moro Ancestral Domain. We must also know just what Madame Gloria Maca-pagal Arroyo (GMA) got from the US in order to suddenly cede to the Moros their claim of an ancestral domain.
Don’t you find it highly suspicious that GMA — who was going on an all-out war against the MILF ever since she assumed the presidency in 2001 — is suddenly ever so generous with Philippine territory, as defined by the present Constitution?
Don’t you find it inconsistent for the same US government that made war in Iraq and is now sending signals to attack Iran — to be sponsoring the birth of a new Muslim state in Mindanao? Why will the US prefer a Muslim state right in the very area that is key to their control of the South China Sea?
Are you not surprised that a piece of Southern Palawan — which faces the Spratly oil grounds that China is claiming together with other Asian nations — is now suddenly being considered part of the Moro Ancestral Domain?
You see, we lose more if we don’t know the real score between the US and GMA deal that led to this development. Losing a piece of territory that we are not willing to really fight for or ready to fight for is nothing compared to awakening the Filipino nation to the reality that has led this country to this situation of economic stagnation and a democracy that never grew. This is the reality of the foreign domination that has stunted our nation since 1521 and continues to this day.
I believe I was the first to write about the US agenda favoring an independent Moro state in Mindanao. This US agenda is summarized in my July 29, 2008 column and I first wrote about it in my August 19, 2007 and September 2, 2007 columns which are available in the Archives of my website (www.chairwrecker.com).
The US agenda to secure the vital South China Sea shipping lanes is served by the creation of an independent Moro state where the US acts as its protector. This allows the US to skirt the provisions of the Vladivostok Accord (which ended the Cold War) where the US pledged to dismantle their bases here while the Russians lifted the Iron Curtain in Europe.
With the GMA regime drifting ever too close to China, the US finds a new Moro state under its protectorate (as provided by the Treaty of Paris and reinforced by the Kiram-Bates Treaty) as the convenient ally for its geo-political objectives. These treaties were detailed in the letter of the late MILF Chief Hashim Salamat which I extensively quoted in my August 19, 2007 column.
The naïve and ignorant still believes that the Iraq War is all about terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. The truth is the Iraq War and the current threats against Iran are all about preparations for the projected war with China. It is all about cornering the remaining large stockpiles of oil in Iraq and Iran and keeping these away from the feared new enemy.
Clearly, to a Filipino, the US objective does not suit Philippine national interests. The US needs a new area for its military bases while our national interests call for the preservation of our territorial integrity. So why does GMA play along with what is patently serving the US interest only?
Why does GMA swing from a policy of all-out war to one of all-out territorial concession? There must have been a trade off for her to agree to this. Since it cannot be something that suits Philippine national interests, it must be something that suits GMA’s personal interests.
Otherwise, it does not make sense and is outright irrational.
Is it power extending beyond 2010 for GMA? Is it protection from prosecution and persecution after her term? What are Filipinos paying for this trade off?

Then the Pres Sec, (anong name nun), admitted na kailangang baguhin ang Constitution bago maaprove ang gusto ng MILF.

I’m telling you, our government is being run by monkeys.

    122. UPDATE:

Formality na lang daw pala ang MOA signing in KL because this was already initialed July 27

”Tomorrow’s signing is a mere formality,” he argued, adding the Supreme Court “can always have judicial review. It should not have issued prior restraint or preempted the executive. This is not just the executive, this is the state,” he said.

The MOA was initialed on July 27 this year by government peace panel chair Rodolfo Garcia and Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Hermogenes Esperon for the government and Mohagher Iqbal for the MILF. The initialing, held in Kuala Lumpur, was witnessed by Datuk Othman bin Abd Razak, the Malaysian facilitator.

“I believe it is now time for us, Mindanawons, to unite, rise up, speak out, and above all, prepare to sacrifice to protect our interest, welfare and security. If the majority will not act now, the minority (referring to the Muslims – RT) will prevail.

    138. the question is: why are they so much in a hurry to have the MOA signed? It would have been signed Tuesday had not the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order. It really looks like the MOA was railroaded. There were no consultations before it was drafted. Local government officials were not consulted, the people of the areas to be affected were not consulted, Congress was not consulted.
      http://opinion.inquirer.net/inquireropinion/columns/view/20080806-152889/The-sinister-motive-behind-the-MOA

And Esperon admitted that they deliberately hid to the public the true intent of the government.

      These are reasonable questions.

When Standard and Poor’s rated SM down from AA- to BB+, they decided that another MOA will have to be contructed in Mindanao completely separate from MOA in Manila to serve not only the interest of Christians but also the Muslims. MOA will be autonomous, they will have their own board of directors and completely apart from MOA in Manila.
