Meet Senator Barack Obama, 47 years old

by Rainier on July 27, 2008

Meet Senator Barack Obama. He could very well be the next President of the United States.

It feels good to think that you are witnessing history in the making and I am proud to be part of this. For a start, please get to know Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee for the US Presidential Elections this coming November.

As I’ve explained in my previous entries about the US election, first, there is a Primary that happens. This is when the Democratic and the Republican party members elects their party nominee. That’s what you saw with Obama slugging it out with Hillary and McCain slugging it out with honestly, I don’t know who!

At the conclusion of the Primaries, Obama emerged as the Democratic Nominee and McCain on the Republican side. So on November 2008, these guys will slug it out as to who will be the next President of the most influential nation in the world, the United States.

Now, the only Republican in our family was my father. The rest? Hahaha! And you better not say anything against Reagan, or else! Hehehe! The 1st time I voted was in 1992 for Bill Clinton and to this day, I still love this guy. He, being the first “black” President of the United States.

In an age where images are much more powerful as ever, seeing the rock star status of Obama in Europe was absolutely amazing.

capt_70464c3d1fc04a028ef15f1e2070981b_aptopix_germany_obama_2008_deuh121.jpg

Every paper that you read here in the United States talked about the Obama phenomenon. And this phenomenon was just pretty solid as could be seen from the images coming from Europe.

r527171697.jpg

It is a phenomenon indeed and it’s one great story. A rather, unknown senator from Illinois is now at the forefront, only a rockstar can muster an audience like what he had in Berlin, where John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton all made famous speeches.

Obama is young. He’s not from the establishment unlike McCain. He has the eloquence, the charisma like Bill Clinton, the energy and damn it! He can dance! Ask Ellen de Generes!

This phenomenon, I would say is largely because George W. Bush is now the most hated disliked President of all times with such a disastrous foreign policy. The arrogance and the cowboy attitude just separated him from mainstream America and unfortunately with much of the world. Today, his approval ratings is very, very low. (About a little more than halfway of the video – it discusses George Bush’s approval ratings.)

Two wars, Wall Street dipping to 10,000 points, the US dollar is weakened, unemployment has been going up, home prices and mortgages are well… let’s just say that you don’t want to be George Bush during these times. I’m sure he’s having a difficult time. In fairness, I believe he is the only President with an MBA! He will end his 30th quarter in the White House with just a 29% average approval rating for the last three months, the worst of his presidency.

Too bad for John McCain, he could not equal the media blast, the beauty and the power of those images, especially the ones coming from Germany. John McCain did went to Mexico, Colombia and Canada. Did you know now about? None? None? Precisely. People abroad were just not interested in him.

You could understand his frustration. Sometimes it’s comedic. Obama with 200,000 screaming Germans. McCain in a German restaurant. No screaming fans. His message is mostly that he is a war veteran, an experienced Senator and Obama is just not qualified. I’m tired of listening to that. Nothing new. It’s an old story as old as him. Experience.

Makes me think, George Bush had a lot of experience. Right? And boy, what a disaster! Is America the most hated country today? I don’t know. But depending on the number of countries in the Middle East, Latin America, Europe and Asia that was angered by the policies of this administration, I guess all those bullying did not work and yes, you could say we are the most hated!

Yet, it’s a country that the world looks up to. Everyone depends on us, no matter how much they deny it. As such, each and every country in the world has an ideal image of America. Do you know how many countries there are in the world? That’s what the next President’s challenge is going to be. To effectively mold all these ideal images of America into one that best serves the purpose of the majority – majority in the world, not just in the United States. Could it be done? Maybe yes, Maybe not, because I have seen the how these two parties fight like crazy.

Obama’s world tour got a very good media coverage in the United States. You can’t run away from those images. You see them everywhere. Heck! They’re beautiful! For once, the world is loving us!

And the US media had a bonanza! Of course the media love good stories! And Obama is it. Turning out record number of voters and record number of audiences. Being a very serious African-American contender for the White House makes it even a lot better.

But if you think all these media adoration is media adoration, then am I the only one who noticed something different?

Even last night’s CNN broadcast where the female reporter was making some head waggling moves which was kind of annoying or insulting saying that Obama stepped out with Sarkozy “looking like a head of state!”. What’s the problem with Obama looking Presidential?!

The US media might love the Obama story, but I doubt if they love “Obama”. And I could see from the actuations, the mannerisms and even the questioning that it’s obvious that the US media’s anti Obama feeling is showing! I honestly don’t know if I am the only one feeling this.

Maybe not. While reading an article from Douglas Daniel, an AP writer, he has this to say:

CBS’s Katie Couric repeatedly pressed Obama on why he wouldn’t acknowledge the military success of Bush’s surge in Iraq.

ABC’s Charlie Gibson asked about public sentiment that he’s inexperienced and challenged him about changing his position on the status of Jerusalem, questioning whether that was a “rookie mistake.”

NBC’s Brian Williams invoked a poll finding that a majority of Americans view him as the riskier choice for president.

Well, I love all these guys (more love for Brian! Hehehe), but I don’t know about success in Iraq, do you? Experience, experience, experience? George Bush has a lot of experience! Now, for Brian? Here’s the latest Gallup Poll. I guess, one would say that majority of Americans would prefer risk over a Republican at the moment when the polls looked like this?

To accuse another of having weak kidneys, lungs, or heart, is not a crime; on the contrary, saying he has a weak brain is a crime. To be considered stupid and to be told so is more painful than being called gluttonous, mendacious, violent, lascivious, lazy, cowardly: every weakness, every vice, has found its defenders, its rhetoric, its ennoblement and exaltation, but stupidity hasn’t.PrimoLeviPrimo Levi, Italian novelist

During the “choosing process” between Obama and Hilary, It was like the presidential “knock out” already. IMHO, obviously a winner, specially when I saw him dance hehehe…

I watched the debate between him and Hilary at Tim
Russert’s(sumalangit nawa nag kaluluwa) Meet The Press and I was impressed how Obama humbly admitted his mistake(about the anti-Christ supporter thing). Well for me that’s a virtue. Others, including “traditional politicians”, would talk out and save their asses on national television but not him.

Sandali nga, may secret ka ata e… campaign manager ka na ba ni Obama ngayun?

i don’t know exactly what you’re saying although i think i do, but would rather have you explain succinctly. i don’t want to guess.

on the other hand though, i was watching the politics last night on CNN with Wolf Blitzer and interestingly, John McCain (i think the interview is going to be shown this Sunday) was almost questioning Obama’s mentality. at least that’s how i read the senator.

i also did not like the kind of “insult” (well, this is politics) he did with “the audacity of hope” with his explanation of obama’s can’t be commander in chief in his “audacity of hopelessness”.

if not for tomorrow’s state of the nation address in the philippines, i would have posted what i wrote about “audacity of hopelessness” o well! there’s another day – but the more i am now solidly for Obama with the so many gaffes of McCain.

I was actually rooting for Hillary during the Primary – obviously because of Bill. But during the campaign, Hillary stuck to the status quo whereas Obama stuck with his change and that change resonated much to the american public. Too bad, Hillary’s campaign manager did not even see that coming. So, when this whole Primary even started, do you know that Hillary was expected to win this hands down? Boy, the campaign does makes a lot of difference.

Well, dahil talo ang manok ko, alangan namang maging kabute este balimbing ako. Stick pa rin ako sa Democrat. I’ve said all along kahit na sino sa kanila manalo, Democrat pa rin ako, because to me John McCain at 72 years old, is OLD and confused. Hahaha! I will prove to you in the next post! hehehe!

What is making Obama popular, is the UNpopularity of the current “dictator” in the White House. Most Americans realize that nothing will change, but we have hope that it can’t get worse. A vote for McCain, would be 4 more years of the same.

I believe Obama will win the Presidency, but we will not see any changes that most Americans are thinking will come to pass.

Go back 8 years, when Americans thought change was coming after the Clinton years. 70% of Americans probably now regret ever putting Bush into office.

I think you should know the difference between Liberal and Conservative. Can you give me 2 to 3 Obama’s accomplishments? All he as is platitudes and nothing else..
There’s not a dime of difference between John Kerry and Obama…so if you voted for Kerry last time…and planning to vote for Obama this time…I guarantee you’ll loose again.

[Reply]

reynz July 27, 2008 at 10:06 pm

would you like to teach me the difference between a liberal and a conservative and your view on it? if you had cared to get to know Obama, you would have answered yourself on his accomplishments. it’s those very accomplishments that put him in a position as to where he is right now. a formidable opponent.

exactly what i believed in, the total dislike of mainstream America with Bush and I’m sure this is the biggest baggage that John McCain is going to carry, after all he is very much associated with Bush.

i do believe also that Obama will be the next President. however, i believe that because most of the world is expecting too much from him, once he fails, all these adulation is setting him up for something that he won’t like. that’s why i hope he gets to be successful.

sunga0sf, please tell us which candidate is liberal, and which one is conservative.

McCain is disliked because the right thinks he is too liberal.

McCain knows the country is disgusted with the current dictator in the White House, and also personally hates Bush for what he did to him during the 2000 nominations. Do you realize McCain gave thoughts of becoming a Democrat?

Read this, it may open your eyes:
http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1823695,00.html

You will NEVER see McCain ever wanting an endorsement from Bush. Bush is like the third rail of the subway.

The current campaign strategy of McCain is flawed in that he is attacking Obama, instead of outlining how he will get America back on track. Attacks do not get you votes.

McCain is not what America needs, and I hope most Americans are smart enough to realize that 4 more years will tear this country apart. With Obama, at least we will have a chance.

I really pity you guys (new to politics)..you can’t quote the Times magazine in a debate or any argument, don’t you know Times is a liberal media?
Let me give you something to start on…watch “Obama Love” on YouTube then go back to me.

McCain is not a liberal..he’s a cetrist (a Republican), different from Conservative. I don’t know where you guys live but if you live in the US and work in the US you know what i mean. Start from your taxes …

[Reply]

sunga0sf July 28, 2008 at 3:45 am

I will ask you again…give me 2-3 Obama accomplishments and I can give you hundreds of McCain.

[Reply]

reynz July 28, 2008 at 3:59 am

i pity you the more sunga, you are being left by mainstream america, just watch the polls, the current poll.

if you have Obama Love, i want you to read my current entry. they are from the trusted news network in the US, CNN, MSNBC, you name it.

it doesnt even matter to me what John McCain is, whether he is liberal, centrist and dang, even convervative.

John McCain is old at 72 years and he is very confused.

[Reply]

reynz July 28, 2008 at 4:01 am

i have answered that question and it’s in the entry. I will ask you again to click that dang button and play it. you’ll know. And you migh even want to see my reasons why John McCain is not fit to be the next President. He’s very confused. Read my current entry. Now, I edited the title to add Barack Obama’s age – being 47 years old because you said you have over a hundred proofs of Senator McCain’s achiement and I probably would agree with you although I have no idea what those are. I mean, if you are 72 years old, been sent many times to Congress, I’m sure even passing a bill to rename a street is counted. Senator Obama at 47 am sure you could readily check his records and I don’t even have to give you that.

but bottom line, and i think we both know what we’re up here, and i’m gonna have to ignore your side insults of me being new in politics, which is completely irrelevant because i have full brain faculties on how to select the better candidate, and which by the way i will not tolerate (insults) the next time you do that, but having said that – i still believe that – at 72 years old , Senator McCain being very well known for his “McCain Moments” and worst, he’s shown many times that he is always confused – to me, he is not the better person to lead the country. I believe his time has passed. America cannot afford a person who does not know what he’s talking about.

Being a 72 years old does not disqualify anyone for running for that office and confused is a liberal talking points to get people to vote for Obama. Have you heard of the Great Communicator? if you do…you would know that age is not an issue here….(that’s age discrimination).

Winston Churchill was 77 when he become a Prime Minister again and a Defense Minister.
Ronald Reagan was 70 years old when he won his second term in office.

Obama did not have any single accomplishment and to get this facts you go to Lexis-Nexis, it’s a goverment website that will gives you all the information about Politicians and their accomplishments, laws they passed and voted as well as their ratings.

Let me give you a dose of reality…Fox is a conservative network (Sean Hannity even admited that) but ABC,NBC,CBS,PBS and some other you call mainstream media are leftist (liberals)they are all Kool Aid drinker.
This mainstream media won’t admit that but if you guys start reading other alternative publications and alternative media like Drudge Report which is the highest rated publication around the world maybe you guys will wake
up!

In the Presidential History of the USA only 16 times the Democrats won the White House and only Bill Clinton managed to have a second term. The record for the Republican is 36 years in the White House and almost all of them won their second term in office except for GW senior.

Last election you guys probably voted for Kerry becasue the media was saying Kerry is the one..he is the best for the country….and you guys were surprise right? Same thing happen to Gore in the 2000 election!!

[Reply]

sunga0sf July 28, 2008 at 7:50 am

Don’t be a part of the media liberal bias and stop accussing McCain of being confused….I would rather have Hillary Clinton running against McCain and I don’t mind if she wins the election cause Hillary is a Hawk hiding as a dove just to get the left wingers vote but what the media did to Hillary was unforgivable, the media brought down Hillary and not because Obama is good.
The Clintons exactly knew that Obama can’t win the White House…they know the reason …you know the reason and i know the reason !!!

[Reply]

sunga0sf July 28, 2008 at 8:09 am

And don’t call the current President a dictator…we have a check and balance in this country , we live in a rebuplican form of goverment which you call democracy.
May be you don’t know what a dictator is and what form of goverment they live in.
If he’s a dictator we would not have this elections right now….get that and put it your head.

OK. Gore is one thing. HE WAS the winner. He lost because of the CHAD stupid thing. Somebody won because of the Supreme Court, halller!!! I’m no ignorant here. We followed that news! No question.

Let me give you a dose of reality…Fox is a conservative network (Sean Hannity even admited that) but ABC,NBC,CBS,PBS and some other you call mainstream media are leftist (liberals)they are all Kool Aid drinker – I AM BEGINNING TO DOUBT YOU DUDE! I DON’T BELIEVE YOU.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS. Obama is 47 years. 1st time in the Senate. McCain is 72 years old. I’m sure you know how many time he had been in the Senate and I’m sure you must be right with the number of his accomplishments.

But at 72 years – HE IS CONFUSED and HE IS PAST HIS PRIME. He does not even know what he is talking about anymore! Don’t you understand that? Haven’t you seen the news? What network are you watching? You can’t escape from all his fumbles and mumbles and gaffes and mistakes! You want the President of the United States to be laughed at and joked about all the time because he is nearing senility? If you don’t want to read my entry on McCain let me give you a dose of his latest – LATEST and blatant mistakes:

- He is clueless on ECONOMICS.
-McCain was in Jordan with Sen. Joe Lieberman on March 18 when he asserted that Iranian operatives were aiding al-Qaida fighters in Iraq. Lieberman whispered to him, and McCain corrected himself: Iran was aiding extremists, not al-Qaida.

-In an interview with a Pittsburgh TV station on July 9, McCain recalled how he had resisted his Vietnamese captors by refusing to give up the names of his fellow Navy pilots. Instead, he said, he recited the defensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

- McCain has had trouble discussing the Czech Republic. In New Mexico on July 15 for a town-hall meeting he discussed energy supplies in Czechoslovakia. But that country hasn’t existed since 1993 when it became the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He had made the same mistake the previous day — and back on April 2.

-In an interview with ABC News on July 21, McCain said of Afghanistan, “We have a lot of work to do, and I’m afraid that it’s a very hard struggle, particularly given the situation on the Iraq-Pakistan border.” In fact, Iraq doesn’t border Pakistan.

- McCain said that Baghdad is now a safe place. General Petraeus even goes around in an unarmored Humvee.

- AND THE WORST?! John McCain is clueless on ECONOMICS.

These are not very Presidential to me. I have videos to prove my points. Watch it: http://reynaelena.com/2008/07/28/meet-senator-john-mccain-72-years-old/

but then again, when I looked at John McCain, no offense to Sunga, I’m sure McCain was brilliant in his times, pero, he is already 72 years old and he doesnt’ have it anymore. Regardless if he has 1,000 accomplishments and more, we’re talking about current leadership at hindi na yong aanga-anga. My problem with John McCain is that, in majority of his interviews, he doesnt’ have it anymore. He’s confused, he does not know what he is talking about, he fumble and his answers are not consistent to a point that you can call him a liar! I watch the news, I watch all his interviews because I wanted to be comfortable with Obama. But the more I look at John McCain, the more I am sure of my Obama vote.

You read it right: tougher on the Democrat.

DANG! Indeed, I was not alone with this observation!
