Comments on: Is adding 2 more years in high school improve Philippine public education?

Adding two more years alone in the curriculum will not improve our educ automatically but i do want 2 more years to align with int’l stds and so that our graduates will be recognized by the international community. Yon kasi ang problem – hindi marecognize ang graduates natin because of that 10-year basic education.

In my observation, curriculum-wise, maganda ang curriculum ng pinas. Kailangan lang maituro ng maayos and more modern facilities. Bakit ko nasabi ‘to? Because my mom is tutoring students from international schools in Kuwait and I have friends tutoring GCSE Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics here and the feedback – mas mahirap pa yong sa atin. Ang dadali lang daw ng exams at parang elementary yong books.

Personally, marami na rin akong nakatrabahong iba’y ibang lahi – mga engineering graduates from western schools. Hindi rin naman sila ganun kagaling. Mas magagaling pa ang Pinoy!!!

may kakilala ako, he's in gymnasium in germany tapos nag transfer yung papa nya sa US -- ayun, tuwang tuwa yung bata kasi daw sobrang hirap daw sa germany. e sa US mas konti daw ang subjects unlike sa germany. kengkay's last blog post..meron akong sasabihin

alam mo yong pangkin ko (namesake nang junakees mo), we have to get the curriculum nang dalwang schools in Manila (wiz ko na sabihin pero top tier sya at wellknown), then pina-aprub pa namen sa Principal dito kasi nga babalik din nga sa US. Indi inap-prub nang principal kasi an layo nang curriculum hahaha so, ayun naghanap kami at wa kaming choice kundi tingnan ang mga international schools. buti kamo, Reedley was just in Pasig kaya nung pinadala namen yong subjects nya, tinanggap nang principal nya here kaya napunta pangkin ko nang Reedley and stayed there for 3 years. di ko kabisado kung merong ganyang tiers here sa US, although ang alam ko, bago mag bakasyon, kasi grade 8 na rin sya, meron syang series of exams para sa scholarship in high school nakalimutan ko ang tawag sa program na yun where they classify students as A or B or whatevah kaya sana pumasa to reynz's last blog post..Reproductive Health Policy: Ba’t ba pinag-initan na naman?

By the way, there are three types of Secondary School in Germany.

After primary education, children normally go to one of three types of secondary schools:

1. Hauptschule (until 10th grade) – prepares pupils for vocational education and ends with a Hauptschulabschluss. The Hauptschule is designed for those who are less academically gifted. Graduates generally enter an apprenticeship ( Lehre) in a manual trade, sometimes combined with some part-time studies at a Berufsschule.

2. Realschule (until 10th grade) – offers a broader range of emphasis for intermediary students and ends with a Realschulabschuss. The Realschule is designed for those who will be entering an apprenticeship in a commercial trade or medical profession such as nursing, the emphasis is more on mathematics and language skills than on manual activities.

3. Gymnasium (until 12th or 13th grade) – prepares students for higher education and ends with the Abitur (a prerequisite for enrolling in university). This is the most demanding type of schooling, with 32 to 40 hours of lessons per week and lots of homework.

Kathleen was and will be in Gymnasium again when we go back.

hindi ba dapat nag-aaccelerate lahat? edukasyon, teknolohiya, ekonomiya, at iba pa, masyadong tradisyunal ang approach na yan, hindi sya nababagay sa makabagong panahon, Information Era I mean.

it looked like it na gusto nilang gayahin ang western curriculum. ibang iba nga ang curriculum nang Ateneo compared with her subjects in Germany. At least, in no time Kathleen will be back in Germany. Parehas lang ang curriculum ninyo in Germany sa US except for Latin.

nga pala, di ko pa rin pala alam kung kelan ako makaka-alpas here. dami pa ring kalechehan ang ayuf na ex employer ko!

12 years basic education din sa germany. pero kaibang-kaiba ang sestema. sounds like gusto nilang gayahin ito, pero hindi pa rin maabot ng Pilipinas ang standard sa labas.

for example:

Kathleen was in 8 grade (second year dito) in germany before we came here.

Her subjects there were Physics, Biology, Political Science, English, Math, Latin, Theology, German (parang Filipino dito), Sport (PE here sa Pinas) and Art.

ngayon sa Ateneo second year din siya, here subjects are (take note and compare the big difference):

Science, Filipino, Math, Social Studies, English, IT, CLE, Speech

I was once a teacher, the way I look at the plan (kung lulusot)hindi ito magtatagumpay. Sa hirap ng buhay ngayon dumarami na ang high school drop outs... Sa apat na taon hirap na hirap na ang mga magulang na pag-aralin ang kanilang mga anak. Dagdagan mo pa ng dalawang taon na pahirap, school lang ang makikinabang iyan sa kanilang mga tuition fees, etc. Tanong bakit nahal si Congressman Katok e sa public school lang naman siya nanggaling at ang high school na tinapos niya ay apat na taon lang ang kanyang ginugol na pagaaral dito. Wala iyan sa number of years, nasa quality of teaching and learning iyan. Dito natin tutukan ang isyu hindi iyong pagdadagdag ng taon. LOL. ewan ko kung anong klaseng risk management at risk mitigation ang ginagawa nang mga U**L na mga yan! brain drain ever! nangawala yong mga magagaling mag-isip nang strategic management direction para sa education naten at ganyan na lang mga desisyon!

they could have just hired some consultants (AKO hahaha) to help them decide! eh kasi, babalik sa sinabi mo, kikbak, RFP at contract na walang bidding, ang mga pinag-susulat mga walang research capabilities ever!

hehehe!!! ako pag naulanan say mo, as in nag-mumutate talaga akO! HAHHAAH
