Is it time to quit your job?

I’m not looking for somebody na gawin ang ginawa ko noh? Hahaha! Sabi nga, “Don’t try this at home!” Pero, if you are in some funky situation sa trabaho na iritang irita ka na to the maximum leveleyshus, wez, maybe these 10 questions will help you find out whether it’s time to hit the road.
Lahat naman tayo had our moments in time. Either demonyo ang boss mo, or demonyo ang mga officemate mo or hayop ever ang assignments at work mo and at one time or another, you ended a tough day at work thinking: “I should be doing something else.” Pero, how do you know kung ang feeling na yan is serious enough to be trulala?
Here’s an exit examination to help you figure out kung talagang nakapako ka na sa trabaho mo and you can no longer divorce yourself sa kwadradong mukha nang boss mong si Doreen. Either you were meant to stick together nang Doreen sa buhay mo or part ways bago kayo mag-sapakan, mag-kalmutan at mag-sabunutan.
Now, of course me mga exception to the rule, that is, unless you have kids that you send to school, me kabit kang tinu-tustusan ang pag-sa-shopping, or that ang mahal nang mga ka-artehan mo and some other serious responsibilities which by then am sure lulunukin mo na lang ang situation divanetch?
Now, get a piece of lapis ang papel, answer mo netch kani-ang questions diri ug find out nimo what your answers mean for your current career situation. For each question except dun sa last, Yes earns 1 point and No earns 0. For the last question, Yes earns 0 and No earns 1.
READY?
1.) Do you wake up excited to go to work? Y = 1, N = 0
A day earlier, kinula mo na lahat nang polo mo’t me mga bakas pa nang arina dahil your job captivates you intellectually at emotionally. Yon bang challenge ka dahil ang assignment mo eh let’s say, how to apply magnetic levitation on all the PNR cars that runs though Atimonan. Now, if you dread getting out of bed to go to work, something’s wrong mga kunichiwa. Either nag-dadalang-tao ka dahil lasing ka kagabi’t nag-pahalay ka or that mag-bibilang ka na naman nang krayola sa opis. Wala. Walang emotional boost. Indi man lang ma-antig ang magna cum laude talents mo.
2.) Do you like the people you work with? Y= 1, N = 0
Mga chikadora ba sila? Mga feelingera ba sila? Kahit na perfect ang job mo with your background and education chuvalais, it will be tough to work with people you don’t especially like. Di na kelangang ime-morize to noh? Yon bang an sarap batuhin nang kumukulong mantika! On the flip side, pag ka puro timang ang tao sa opis mo’t you all get along very well at parati kayong gumi-gimik, kesohodang nasusunog na ang kusina sa apartment mo, lalayasan mo ang sunog dahil late ka na sa opis. Iba ang feeling if you like your officemates. Ganadong ganado ka to go to work everyday. Now, pag me crush ka, the better, di ba? Heheheeh!
3.) Do you see opportunities for professional development and continual learning in your current job? Y= 1, N = 0
We all like to grow professionally while working. We don’t want to continually be pushing papers year after year. Kung ang professional development nang company mo is teach you how to fold the papers and bind them, naku, kelangan nang tiklupin ang employer na nyan. Dahil if you can’t acquire new skills in the job you’ve got and you don’t learn nothing, purdoy ka. And then, berdeng berde ka sa inggit with your friend because yong employer nya sent her to AIM or some schools para matapos ang MBA. Kairita di ba?
4.) Do you feel that you’re adequately compensated for the work you do? Y= 1, N = 0
Eto ang madalas na may-I-quit reasons in the world, divanetch? Especially where I work na wala na atang ginawa tong mga opismeyts ko eh mag-tsismisan what the other guy earns! As in haller! Ano kayang ginagawa nang mga to! Worst, they even compare the work that you do! Yong bang titimbangin ang work load mo! Pano to? Taz, tax season, 24 hours ka sa opis. Pagdating nang pasko, wala kang bonus kasi on December 21, na late ka sa work. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!
5.) Do you have a boss you respect and can learn from? Y= 1, N = 0
The one and single direct factor sa job satisfaction na merong significant effect sayo is your relationship with your direct supervisor. Kung ang taong to is ethical, fair, knowledgeable about the work, and a good coach, you’re in a great spot. Added bonus pag maganda or gwapo, kalog at parati kayong sinasama sa gimik. Now, if your boss is less than fully qualified, a poor leader, or lacking in business ethics, sipsip sa me-ari, sisigaw-sigawan ka pa, i-ismol-ismolin ka pa, your own development will suffer. Ang hirap to be motivated on the job kung ang boss mo eh isang sira-ulo and is not someone you can look up to. Pero, it makes a lot of difference kung me respeto ang boss mo and then, mag-kaibigan kayo. And I know, it’s difficult to thread along the fine line para di ka matawag na sipsip sa opis.
6.) Do you feel that you’re recognized for your accomplishments at work? Y= 1, N = 0
Na-experience mo na ba where you made such a great contribution sa office that it made such a great impact, taz dahil me visor ka, ang palabas nang boss me is puro kanya? Or, merong kayong Team, taz nung naging successful ang project, taz ni hindi man lang na-mention ang pangalan mo? You’ll become resentful (if you’re not already) koyah o ateh. Sigurado ako, magsi-sindi ka nang kandila. Ang hirap kasi when you are in a situation where yong boss mo is uber mang-gagamit. In his/her mind, you work for her or him and so therefore, kung indi sa kanya, wala ka, therefore, puro kanya ang credits. Alam mo yon? Sarap dagukaaaannn!!! Kahit pisong papuri walaaaa!!!
7.) Do you love to tell people about what you do? Y= 1, N = 0
Imagine this one, reunion ninyo, and it’s been a long time that you have’nt seen your classmates. You attended this reunion dahil feel mo, you need to get updated at makipag-konek konek. Social climbing, baga. Yong iba, mga who’s who na. Ikaw who are you pa rin. And then they start talking about work. Pucha!!! Pano toooo!!! If you are with your friends, inuman, kwentuhan nang work, while sila, bungakngak nang bungakngak sa work nila, you can’t even contribute kung ano namang techniques ang ginagawa mo to count the krayolas. In other words, wa ka pride sa work mo koyah. And you try to avoid answering the question: “What do you do?”. We all deserve a job that we can brag about. Di va?
8.) Do you have the tools and equipment to do your job well? Y= 1, N = 0
Ang hirap naman siguro na you still have to bring your own chair or do your work the ancient way dahil di pa nadidiscover nang workplace mo ang current technology. Or that, they gave you an assignment, taz manual mong gagawin dahil they don’t want to spend on a software. Or that baka mamaya yong computer mo eh de-pedal. O baka naman, pinag-out of town ka, taz ikaw pa ang mag-aadvance nang expenses! Halllerrr! Eto pa, in my work, highly technologically advanced daw ang software namen.
9.) Do you have the level of authority that you need to get your job done? Y= 1, N = 0
Ok, so you’re a Manager. Pero most of the people that you need and deal with are the higher ups para matapos ang reports mo. Swerte mo if they are nice and professional. Pano pag me isa or dalawang mga prinsisito at prisiseta? Pano to? What if there are VP’s or Senior Managers dyan who would not even speak to you dahil isa ka lang na abang Manager or Supervisor or Staff? Alam nyu yun? Yong feeling dyus sila at ikaw eh isang indio. Sometimes, everything has to be scheduled with an appointment. And when you call, they’re not available dahil nasa meeting. And if they call, they are driving in the city para ipakita sa tao that they are busy and here you are on the other line, di mo alam ang mga sinasabi dahil ginagamet ka lang para makapag-social climb sya. Getz mo yun?
10.) Do you daydream about doing something different? Y= 0, N = 1
Have you experienced getting bored at work dahil yun at yun na lang ang ginagawa mo? As in, kahit na bangu-ngutin ka, you can still finish the project? And for the life of the water lily, sa 10 years mo sa opis, ganun pa rin ang ginagawa mo? Do you daydream at work na sana nanalo ka sa lotto? O kaya ikaw si Arnel Pineda? Do you do this a lot? That’s a huge signal that your future lies with a different company. If you finish each day as in bwisit na bwisit ka, taz wala ka nang ginawa mag-internet, malaki ang chances na either they fire you or umalis ka na lang. It’s a big risk for sure and it’s not something that I advice, weigh mo at pag pumalpak ka, wag na wag mo akong i-a-akusa hahahaha!
RESULTS:
0 to 1 point = You need to quit your job, pronto! Your immediate assignment is to rewrite your resume.
2 points = You really dislike your job and should think seriously about what’s kept you there this far. Is it fear of change? The hassle of job-hunting? Keep in mind that the longer you stay, the more disgruntled you’ll become. Shouldn’t you start job-hunting right now?
3 to 4 points = You are not in a great place with your job. Take some time this week to think about what your perfect job would look like and how you could get there. In six months to one year, you should be able to work on getting your current job closer to that ideal or throwing in the towel and moving on.
5 to 6 points = You don’t love your job and you don’t hate it. List 10 things that you’d like to improve about your current job, then talk with your manager about making those changes.
7 to 10 points = You are lucky–lots of people wish they liked their job as much as you do. Be happy!

Reynz,
nakaka relate ako don sa mga nabanggit mo dito hehe, ang sa akin lang,we have no choice but to become an employee most of our lifetime, pero I know we have a choice to make in life, minsan lang tayo mabubuhay sa mundo, either you think of going to a more and better career move once in a while, kahit na mahirap dahil syempre panibagong simula na naman,or you start building your own business parallel sa pagiging employee mo.
At the end of the Day, it’s still our choice and decision to make. And making that decision should be something that talagang seryoso nating pinag-aralan at pinag-isipan.
Because every results sa buhay natin hanggang sa pag tanda natin, is our own decision after all.

Hi Reynz,
Teka bakit walang 0.5 sa scoring? Hmmmm…
sa #4 - actually, indi, kasi mas maraming call centers na mas malalaking offer — so 0, sad to say
sa #5 - sa manager namin, mukhang meron, she’s intelligent eh, in so many ways…so 1
sa #6 - oo last year lang…worth 5T at plake….so yeah…1 ulit
sa #9 - feeling ko naman dito sa company namin, pwede to, pag malakas nga lang ang loob mo na kausapin kung sinong kehodang gusto mong kausapin. just stand proud and speak smart, papansinin ka..so 1
sa #10 - yes, I always do….0
so - 6 out of 10 ang zeros —> ay neutral….sya sya, i will talk to my manager…ganire dialogue ko…
“Maam, please visit Reynaelena.com and to tell you honestly, I only got 6 out of 10!!”
Say mo?

ang pinakamahirap when working for a big company is yong dealing mo sa lahat nang tao there kasi nga iba’t ibang personality ang mga kasama mo. been there. tong company ko dati has over 5,000 people in there, mas malaki pa sa barrio namen kaya kanya kanyan pa-artehan, at tinalo ang kaartehan ko.
6 is good, leaning on the positive side ka naman eh, so adjust mo na lang ang sarili mo sa kanila di ba?

sometimes you like the job, you like the people but you do not want to dirty your hands with some questionable practices of the higher gods, in short hindi ka nila ma corrupt kaya they make the environment hard for you. you are already marked for elimination to be replaced by someone naive or is willing to become the sacrificial lamb or escapegoat, in case the authority gets wind of their white collar crime.
