My entry today is about mon ami Joey. Kakatuwa tong friend ko. He just arrived from the Philippines yesterday. Umagang umaga eh kinakalog ang phone ko! He’s a graduate of the University of the Philippines. From there, he went on a scholarship at Syracuse University in New York and additional studies at the Royal Horticultural Society in Wisley, UK. He never met the Queen in London, so he decided to go back to the United States. Andito lang pala ang Queen sa Philadelphia, all along. Ayun, dahil mapera at matalino ang Joey at pwede ko syang gamitin, nilagay ko sya sa speed dial number 1.
I talk about him a lot, as well as Markus, our Indonesian friend who received his PhD at the University of Connecticut; Gene who is a double masters and former Math and Computer Science professor at De La Salle University; Junsy who’s got computer eng’g (I guess from the University of Santo Tomas). All of these wonderful people were the ones responsible for helping me get a great GMAT score to make it at Temple University’s Fox School. Otherwise, siguro bumalik ako sa Mababang mataas na paaralan nang Barrio Siete.
I had a great time with Joey last December 2006 in Manila where we went directly to Remedios from the airport. The following morning, accompanied by my boylet, we drove to San Pablo City, kung saan nanga-wala-wala kami sa Mt. Banahaw dahil Joey had no more idea how to get to San Pablo City. Ako naman, basta me manibela, me gas at me kalsada? Drive!!! Wid matching boylet of course!!!
That’s where I met his parents - real nice and warm family. As a matter of fact, inutangan ko pa nang peso because we were driving all along and we don’t have any anda in our pitaka whatsoevah! When we arrived, napatanga ako, dahil I still remember when Joey was almost yelling at the gate na papasukin sya, but the father was just staring at him as if saying “Wala akong baklang anak!!! Wala~!!!!” hahahaha!!! In any case, soon as the father recognized Joey, he opened the door and even guided me to park the car inside their driveway.
A few hours ago, I just found out that Joey’s father passed away.
I don’t know what to say, my friend…
