How much are you making at your current job?
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
In my previous employment mga kabisyo, I have always been involved in the hiring process. Even now. What I noticed now is that, just for one (1) position that we advertise, we get tons of resumes. Looks like something is telling us that something is wrong, isn’t it? Because we get dozens of resume, I use keywords to narrow down the candidates and come up with a shortlist. From there, we send an interview invitation. During the job interview, I do ask them about their previous salary. Why? Because it gives me a sense as to how much they are expecting and that would at least give me a clue as to whether or not they would be happy with what I’ll be offering them or whether or not they would be happy working with us.
“How much are you making at your current job?”
Interestingly, I get asked about this a lot. In the Philippines. Only. I’m not even on a job interview. Nakiki-inuman lang ako, me tinatarget na boylet. They don’t ask this question to me in Europe or in the United States. It’s a culture thing. Boy bastos ang dating. It’s blatant in the Philippines. Pucha kahit siguro sa loob nang kumpisalan. They asked you directly about your salary. “How much do you earn?”. It’s a culture thing. Kaya naman Happy Slip poked fun on it in her video blog.
But if you’re in a job search mode or is looking for an employment mga kunichiwa, most likely you will be asked about your salary. The question by Elvie in her email to me was: “Should I tell? Can I tell them I am making Php40,000 a month so they’d give me Php50,000 or higher?” In my email to Elvie, I told her to tell the truth. From my experience, most of the candidates end up giving the information anyway. But here in the United States, I prefer that you tell the truth because there are a lot of ways to find out the truth. Now, in Manila? I don’t know how much information you could find to verify someone’s salary. Alam kaya nung kaaway mong neighbor?
Another question posed to me was this: “Should I include the salary on the resume because that’s one of the requirement on the advertisement?” If you are looking for a job through a recruitment agency, I bet you, they will ask for your salary. That’s why I am so annoyed at them. Sobra ever pa ang marketing ploy. Most of what recruitment agencies advertised are not real. Makinig ka, they’re just after your resume - just in case me dumating na job order sa kanila.
Now, to answer the question of including your salary on your resume or CV, I’ll be honest with you - DON’T and this is my personal take on this one. If you are responding to an ad that requires you to indicate your salary, there are pitfalls to this one. Why? They might not call you. Wiz ka pa first base, chugi ka agad. However, if you have the qualification and they ignored it just because you did not send your salary history, ambabaw chufafling divanetch? Then that organization is not right for you. Chugihin sila buy another Sunday paper. Wag yong Philippine Standard at Philippine Star! You know what I mean?! hahahaha!

No I never put my salary in my resume pati photo hindi rin ako naglalagay.

same with me as far as salary is concerned. weird pero sa opis kasi namin, required ako to specify kung magkano salary nila but i honestly ignore it when reviewing resumes. tinitingnan ko kung maganda sila hehehe
here, we don’t ask for pictures o kaya family information.

Current salary should never be entered in a resume. I think it is inappropriate. However, when your on your interview then you use your current salary as a bargaining chips.

you know, last weekend, i reviewed 5 resumes sent to me by readers here. record yong review na ginawa. pucha, lahat me mga ID na nakasaksak sa resume and tatlo nakalista lahat nung mga kanunu-nu-nuan. i told them na tanggalin. yong mga pics daw required. di ko talaga magetz ang hiring process sa pinas bat ba kasi parating “pleasing personality” as if lalabas sa ID.

normal yong pleasing personality kapag receptionist, sales, promo girl o kaya customer service representative

After college, i’ve been checking different sample resumes online, i think wala ako nakita na resume with current salary. I don’t think it’s needed. Hindi ba unprofessional yun? hehe. Pag ako nasa hiring dept. at may nakita akong salary entered in a resume, ibabasura ko. LOL
