I wrote this entry back in February of 2007 and it continues to be one of the most searched entries I made similar to Pinay Scandal in Baguio City. So, I thought I would revisit the entry, WHY? I wonder how many Human Resource Departments in the Philippines have gotten the same letter! HAHAHAHA! Tutal nasa KOPYAHAN EVER TAYO!!! hahaha!! Sana ako na lang ang tinawaganng interbyuhin!
You see, I learned STALKING 101, 102, 106 ki Chuvaness. Ba’t 106? Kasi, na-akselereyt ang beautyness ko because I was sooo damn good. Ngayon, who visited this entry? Hmmm… ahhh… Joli..??? HAHAHA!!! San…l??? HAHAHA!!!! Me ebidensya akoooo!!! HAHAHA
I get a lot of emails requesting assistance on their resumes. Now, I have reviewed dozens of resumes sent to me already. No worries, I am not selling your name. But some told me that those are not their real names like the latest resume I reviewed for Miss Mariang Kiling. I’m pretty sure that’s not your real name gurl! hahaha! Now, I honestly don’t want you to copy my letter below. If you do, then copy at your own risk. HAHAHA
To Claire at sa lahat nang mga anak kong pumasa sa nursing board exams, pati na yong hindi pumasa at naghahanap nang trabaho, let me tell you sumtin’… the application letter and resume are basically your marketing material. Eto yong pinaka-importanteng papel na gagawin mo sa buong buhay mo once you start looking for a job, well… other than applying for a credit card. Divanetch? Por que? Dahil you are basically selling yourself.
I will not re-invent the wheel kasi gawa na tong mga how to write a cover letter, how to write a resume and all that. Actually, they are all over the internet. Search mo lang sya and you will find every nitty gritty detail kung pano buuin ang isang cover letter and a resume.
Ok, let’s start with your cover letter.
Your application letter is isa na yata sa pinaka-importanteng love letter na gagawin mo sa buong buhay mo. Wag na wag mong madaliin ari at I am telling you, kahit na sa tindahan ni Aling Karing hindi ka kukunin. Ang epektibong cover letter will earn you a phone call, a text message o kaya a letter for an interview. Pagka bali-balikwa ang application or cover letter mo, aba! mag-aral ka uli! Dahil I’m sure enemployed ang dating mo. What’s the difference? Hay naku, simple key points lang anak. Di mo na kailangang mag PhD to come up with a good one.
Put some personal touch
Ang ibig kong sabihin, wag yong lalagyan mo nang pulbos at titiklupin mong pahati at pabalang gaya nong ginagawa mo nong grade wan ka’t bibigay mo sa nililigawan mong totay pa. Ang ibig kong sabihin, wag na wag mong i-ge-generalize ang letter mo. Describe mo yong particular experience and skills mo at kung pano to makakapagcontribute sa business organization an ina-aplayan mo. Gaya sa exams, wag kang mango-ngopya. Instead, gawin mo para yong sulat mo represent your individuality and your capabilities.
Address to a specific person
Wag na wag kang magsusulat nang application letter addressed to the TITLE. Hanapin mo yong pangalan nang padadalhan mo nang sulat. Hay naku, wag mo akong tanungin kung saan mahahanap ang pangalan at ma-popokpok lang kita. If the name is unavailable, tawagan mo sila and ask for the person’s name or at least the name of the personnel manager. Ako? Whenever I received an application letter at nakalagay lang na: Accounting Director, Finance Director, The Human Resource – I file the letter immediately sa thrash can. Why? Yong mga nagpadala nito eh mga tamaditos.
Catch the reader’s attention
Pag ako nagbabasa nang mga application letter, iisa ang hinahanap ko. Yanigin mo ako. Di ba? Ayoko nang boring letter. Kelangan ma-stimulate mo yong interest ko. For example, you may want to begin with a reference to an advertisement that prompted your application. (Basahin nyo tong story ko kung saan ko nakuha yong ad nang trabaho ko sa Princeton.) Pag sinabi mo yon, magugulat pa sila dahil epektibo pala yong ad nila. O di winner ka na agad!?
Anong mga isusulat mo sa 1st paragraph?
Be clear sa gusto mo.

Kung nakita mo sa dyaryo yong ad, name the position na nasabi dun sa? ad and identify the source, for example: “your advertisement for a sexy and beautiful nurse, which appeared in the Reyna Elena Times, February 1, 2007,…”

Kung nag-po-prospect ka lang, try to identify the job title used by the organization.
Yong? first paragraph mo dapat parang preview nang buong letter mo para alam nang reader mo kung ano ang susunod. Wag kang magbigay nang climax na tipon… TA-DANGG!!! Hindi to DreamGirls.
I-Highlight mo ang qualifications mo
Organize the middle paragraphs in terms of the qualifications that best suit you for the job and the organization. Meaning, kung ang on-the-job experience is your strongest qualification, discuss mo to in detail and show how you can apply it sa pangangailangan nang kompanya. If you have two or three areas that you think are strong, you can develop additional paragraphs. Make your letter strong enough to convince readers that your distinctive background qualifies you for the job but not so long that length will turn readers off. Some employers recommend a maximum of four paragraphs.
Other pointers:

Conclude with a clear, courteous request to set up an interview, and suggest a procedure for doing so.

Be professional. Wag mong gagayahin yong mga katimangan ni Reyna dito. Baka itulak ka lang sa bintana. Ayusin mo yong ingles mo, yong gamit nang wurds but words. Yong spilling but spelling. You know what I mean!

Wag na wag kang magmamayabang. Di ko na to i-i-explain ano?

Seek advice. Gusto mo, send mo sa mga diwata ko ang cover letter mo at makilatis namin dito.

hahahaha this reminds me, may pinay na nagsubmit ng CV sa amin may zodiac sign. Gusto kong matunaw na parang ice cream kasi baka akala ng boss ko lahaty ng pinoy ganun hehe Hindi lang nosebleed, dinugo talaga ako.
Buti na lang nung college kami may career orientation kami. Tinuruan talaga kami pano ibenta ang aming sarili, mag-sulat ng CV, magprepare for interview and power dressing.
I am not saying my resume is well-written, but I know when I see a bad one and minsan I get turned-off pag hindi well-written ang CV kahit alam kong magaling yong tao.
