I don’t know what school these people are from and honestly, it really doesn’t matter. But if you find out, please do tell me. No, I won’t apologize. I think, I will teach the teacher how to catch up with technology and some strategies to catch cheaters. Pero sasabunutan ko muna ang teacher na to hehehe!
SONA 2007 Summary is one of my entries that is heavily searched. And COPIED. Yes. COPIED. Most students in Philippine schools have literally copied my entry (who knows what else!) that one teacher is now blaming me for making them LAZY, which I believe is a completely misplaced accusation. I find it interesting because, if her students are smart enough to find me, then she should be smart enough to find me first.
I believe that as a teacher, you have certain responsibilities to catch up with technology. I despise the accusation. It’s like accusing the internet for making ALL of the students lazy.
When I was in George Washington University, I relied heavily on the internet to do all my research. When I did my MBA at Temple University, the more I relied on the internet for all my business projects. Was I lazy? Internet made all the difference in me. It made all my graduate work easy since I still have my 9-5 job.
Interestingly, I also have Book Reviews here that are searched by some of the finest business schools in the world. I see them on my statcounter. Some of the business school students have already emailed thanking me for what I wrote.
Now, should you as a student copy what I wrote and submit it - that’s the risk that you’re taking and you should not hold me responsible for any flunking grades you get because I am not here to feed your school assignments. That is soooo not my responsibility. But I do appreciate all the nice words I get on the comments and on the emails because what I did helped a lot of people and students.
Now, as a teacher, should your students submit to you what I wrote in here as copy paste, I’m sure it’s one of those annoying moments because naisahan ka nang mga students mo (your students put one over you!). But don’t you ever blame the author of this blog to justify your students laziness. They’re not lazy. They are cheaters. And they’re not the ones who are lazy, baka ikaw?

if i were that teacher i won’t comment on your blog. even if I caught my students copying what somebody else wrote and submitted it as their report or project…i will tell my students instantly that i know where they got that or copied it from. ibabagsak ko yung sinubmit nila. at pag nagtanong kung bakit, saka ko isusupalpal sa mga tamad na students na yan na kinopya lang nila sa internet.
the internet should be used as a tool to make a student’s life a lot better. pero what’s in the internet should be NOT BE copied. that teacher is RIGHT, the students must use their own brains to summarize what they read.
you are right manay, they can copy what you wrote here all they want, but at their own risk. like puede silang ibagsak nung teacher nila. i see high school students here who even pay the internet shop owner to do the researching for them. imagine? kung ako ang teacher, gabi gabi igo-google yung topic na binigay kong assignment, para alam ko kung sino yung nag copy paste lang.

i second your emotion manay (i inserted your correction btw). at temple u, they’re using a software that would search the internet for similar entries, i just did not know what software they use. i mean, with all the business plans, book reviews, essays and whatever else they ask us to do, it sure is very easy to copy anything and everything on the internet.
there are so many challenges. the challenge for the teacher to be on top of things esp with the advancing technology and the challenge to weed out plagiarized reports.
this is not just happening in the Philippines, here in the US, even the best schools have them too and boy are they soooo dumb to even copy internet research including commas and punctuation marks.

Yes they are not lazy. First, searching the net, effort un. 2nd, passing the requirement, effort too. 3rd, copy paste your article, big effort! If they’re lazy, walang isa submit sa yo dear teacher. be thankful at naging resourceful pa ang mga students mo. Let’s say, lahat ng students. Out of 50, lahat sila iisa lang pala ang pinasa. At lahat yun galing sa reynaelena.com, bakit di mo na lang tanungin sila kung anong masasabi sa SONA ng reyna instead ni GMA? E di nakatulong ka pa sa kasikatan ng mahal na reyna? Yes, Nina, I did teach FILI! And LITERA and ARTAPRE. I enjoyed teaching summer school because it was so easy to bond with the students. I hope that course was not too traumatic for you

I think it was summer of 95 or 96 - FILIONE. I don’t know if you remember ANTON Diva, I was in that class. We had a video presentation as a project.
Nope, it wasn’t traumatic but you were a little bit mataray. Hehehehehe. Nothing is more traumatic than statistics and this engineering subject called ELECONE/ELECTWO na halos isa o dalawa lang ang pumapasa bawat class. Parang nag-eenjoy ang mga professor na walang pumapasa sa class nila.

I read something like that a few days ago,kalimutan ko lang kung saan site particularly, pero parang sa Yahoo yata yon, something like a debate or an issue na dapat daw bang ipagbawal ang mga students to simply Google their Research work/s, kasi kinda students, as that article says, they don’t use their ‘brain’ anymore daw in the right method of research (ano sa palagay nyo hehe). Eh medyo tinamaan din ako no!, kasi during my college days, ay isa din sa nakatulong sa akin ang mga research ko sa Internet on some of my assignments at Feasabilty studies.
Pero personal opinion ko lang, ala naman problem kahit nag research sa Google yong mga student eh, as long as they read the entire article or postings at may naintidihan sila dito. Maybe the teacher’s possible diskarte dito is to create a class discussion about don sa research work, as in she will simply choose on the spot kung sino mapili nya mag explain nong kanilang na research. This way malalaman nya kung sino ang talagang may effort to understand yong ginawang research ng kanyang mga estudyante. Di ba, not just putting the blame on someone else.

You know, everything is on the internet. At GWU our library is on the internet. I never even saw the physical library of GWU.
Same thing when I was in Business School at Temple U. Temple happens to share online library with Wharton, Harvard, London Business School and a host of other big named business schools in the world. I have never set foot at the physical library of Temple U although I’ve been to the main campus only twice. Once when I was invited by my professor to meet him up and then during graduation because our campus is several miles away from the city.
That’s why there are software these days to detect as to whether or not you’ve plagiarized your work. And I will never put my graduate studies in jeopardy considering how expensive it was to go to a business school like Temple U. One could check online how much it cost. It’s unbelievably expensive.
What we do is understand what’s written if we find an article, then agree or disagree but we explain it OUR way no copy paste.
Kelangan pa bang imemorize yan?
Now - blame the author? Halllerrrr!!!!

tama ka dyan. it’s not your fault. yung mga estudyante nya ang turuan nya ng leksyon, huwag tayong mga hamak na blogger na nagsusulat lang ng ating mga saloobin sa buhay. eh kung mangopya pala sila ng assignment nila sa isang aklat, susulatan din ni teacher yung author nung aklat for making her students lazy?.

Psssstt, Ms. Alpay, mag subscribe ka sa www.turnitin.com - yan ang tiga highlight ng lahat ng parte nung homework ng students mo na kinopy paste. Saka wag mong ipa submit in paper kasi kawawa naman si mother nature sa dami ng papel na nasasayang… dapat may email ka na ginagamit para lang mag accept nga mga ka essayhan mo sa buhay. Piktapos, mega analays ang sofware na ito kung saan galing na website ang mga itetch… O davah, andali? Gosh~~~~~!

am not sure kung si Cee yan dahil apat na IP addresses ang ginagamit ni Cee one of which starts at 124 which is the same as miss alpay pero the rest of the numbers are different.

Kung ako si Alpay, hindi ko pina-papel ang project. Recycler ako at mahal ko ang puno. Dapat online nalang by email or kahit ipasta sa kani-kanilang mga blog, bigay lang ang link. Madaling maghanap ng kapareho like copyscape nga. Being original myself ayoko din ng may kapareha. I have 14 blogs na yata (lost exact count) pero wala sa kanila ang may kaparehong post kahit pa pareho topic. Another solution is submit an audio recording instead. Eh di boses nung bata mismo yun. Kahit tagalog. Tapos may explanation sa audio. Importante naiintindihan ng bata yung sinasabi nya.

Mali naman yata ang banat sa iyo ni ma’am alpay! Hahaha!
Pag may teaching load ako, sa orientation pa lang ng class, pre-emptive strike agad. Sinasabi ko sa kanila na ok lang gamitin internet, pero they should properly cite their references. Pero once may makita akong cut and paste lang, bagsak agad ang lab reports nila.
Kung gusto mo namang makita kung meron sa internet nag-plagiarize ng page mo, try mo ito: http://copyscape.com/
madalas kong gamiting yan pang scan nung mga nag-re-repost ng mga peyups artiks ko. pero binabayaan ko lang. interesado lang ako kung sino yung mga nangongopya.

But i really like the preemptive strike that you’re telling. Minsan just by doing the preemptive strategy even if you do nothing - it works. Ganyan ang mga professors ko. Minsan one word or one sentence just as a reminder.
It all boils down to leadership sa classroom, meaning the teacher himself/herself. Pag mahina sya at di sya magkaron nang authority sa classroom, his students won’t learn responsibility either.

Napakababaw naman nyan. Dati nung wala pang Internet, yung mga ibang estudyante kinokopya din sa books word for word yung assignment nila.
Di mo naman siguro sisisihin ang author ng libro dahil sa ginawa ng students di ba?

Langyaka reynz pinahirapan mo ako dun sa controversial meme mo. until now di pa ako tapos gawin. Dumugo nailong ko sa pagsusulat kala mo. dapat may libre akong belekoy pag natapos ko yun haha Ala-Miss Alpay Ba? bliname ko din ikaw haha.

Propesor din ako. And I never let my students copy paste from google it’s because they know that I’m a smart ass. Not because I’m intelligent or what but because my job requires me to do so. Kahit nga sa essay at evaluation papers alam ko pag kinopya o niretoke lamang yung gawa ng kaklase nila, alam ko din pag hindi yung bata ang nagsulat kasi I read the entirety of their work which they submit to me kahit its very taxing (kaya siguro ako nagresign).
My point is, if you are a teacher you should also do your homework. do not give any projects or assignments that can just be easily copied from the net. Ako before I give my mala-guillotine na project, I googal first so that I may know the sources of the projects. Alam ng students ko yan kaya never silang nagcheat or kung nagcheat man once, wala ng second instance dun. Kase singko agad sila sa akin. walang compromise dun.
Ang gusto ko lang sabihin ay hindi magaling yung teacher. Kasi kung alam ng estudyante mo na smarte ka, di ka nila pagtatangkaan na dayain. E siguro, ang alam ng estudyante mo sayo eh hindi ka nagbabasa ng project at check ka lang ng check kaya nila nagawa yun. I should know because of all students, ako ang number one forgerer at plagiarizer ng mga assignments ng mga kabarkada kong tamad, for free o di kaya kapalit ng isang case na beer. Bago ko igawa ng assignment ang kabarkada ko inaalam ko muna kung ano ang temperament at style nung teacher. Para swak sa submission at walang bisto. Ganun yun Mam.

very good point roni! and i agree! i mean, i have had boring professors of course as in mas magaling pa mga kasama ko sa class. when that happens, normally dahil walang challenge sa professor, lalabas yung - PEDE NA YAN! those types kaya lalabas din yong KOPYAHIN MO NA LANG TO! kaya i agree with you.
