My Japanese classmate Kaz, flew in last September. It was his first time in the East Coast and he specifically told me that he wanted to do some sightseeing tours in New York City. We then drove to New York but decided to park the car by Liberty State Park on the Jersey side. We decided to take the tour boat that would take us to Staten Island, the Statue of Liberty Island and then to Manhattan. We had a great time and I could see that he is enjoying his tour. From the pier in Manhattan, we walked all the way to Ground Zero. We just could not find any taxi and we forgot that it was September 11! No wonder every street corner is filled with cops! There were police cars all over the place and we overheard that the President of the United States will be around for some ceremonies at Ground Zero. We did have the chance to visit Ground Zero, took some pictures and tour the site. However, we did not realize that it was already getting dark and that the pier closes at 9pm. But we have already gone too far in walking that we have no idea what part of New York we were in! Worst, we went to the wrong pier! We were told that we have to go back to the pier near the World Trade Center to take the taxi service that would take us back to the Jersey side. It was the longest hike ever that we ever took because the traffic was not even moving! We were told that because of the ceremonies going on, several blocks have been closed and cordoned off by the cops! I could see that Kaz was not happy at all. By the time we go to the pier, it was closed! We have no choice but to take the subway. But I have no idea how to ride the subway in New York! Worst, no taxi would take us to Liberty State Park! Somehow, there was one nice soul who helped us read the subway trains which one goes where and we ended up taking the train that would bring us to the other side of the river. It was already midnight! Once on the Jersey side of the subway station, we took the taxi that would take us to Liberty State Park. Our car was the only one left at the parking lot and it was dark. This was probably one of the worst sightseeing tours we ever had!
Had we called Trusted Tours and Attractions we would have never had this lousy sightseeing tours experience. Best of all is that, we could have won a Handheld GPS by signing up with the Trusted Travel eNewsletter.
