There’s this big talk on the 123-reg blog about the interview to Chris Anderson who is the Editor-In-Chief of the Wired Magazine. He was named in the Time 100, the news magazine’s list of the 100 people whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world. When you get the chance, I really want you to read the interview.

Take the case of John Chow, who calls himself the dot com mogul, he makes money by giving free advices on how to make money on the internet. He uses the “freemium model“. And so is John Cow and so is everyone else. That’s not to say that John Chow is not earning money because he gets paid by advertisers who uses his popularity to lauch their products.

Such is the power of the intenet. It has changed the playing field. No longer can you roll-out the product to the whole marketplace and expect to be successful. Rolling out a products in this internet age now calls for a very targeted audience. Where do you find them? In social networking where you will find groups of people magnetized by their passion which could range from absolutely anything under the sun. If you find this niche, roll out your free product and that’s your targeted freemium model at work.

It’s a great interview. It’s a great marketing concept. Go visit the 123-reg blog.
