Christmas carolers banned in Manila

At the risk of being called the Grinch, Manila administrators said Monday they are banning Christmas carolers from the Philippine capital’s streets because they disrupt traffic.
“The plan, controversial as it might be, is not done out of whim but rather for the safety of the children and the motorists,” said Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chief Bayani Fernando, citing an incident last year in which a child caroler was run over by a speeding vehicle.
He said the ban applies to carolers and beggars in the streets, who often stop cars, beat their drums and tin cans and ask for money. Those who violate the ban will be rounded up and placed into the custody of the Social Welfare Department, he said.
“They can still go caroling from house to house or in their neighborhood where there are no speeding cars or trucks,” Fernando said. “What we are against are those who dart across thoroughfares knocking on vehicle windows to beg for alms since this is a sure-fire way to get maimed or killed.”

hmmm… i dont know what to say. pareho lang naman din yan dun sa mga batang nagpapatintero sa kalsada at nagbebenta ng kung ano-anong anik anik, dapat dun pa lang ay may gawin na agad.

at parehas din kamo yan nang nakahambalang na nagbebenta nang yosi, usedpapers at mga sandamakal na babaeng lipad sa Quezon Av na hahabulin pa kamo ang taxi!!! as in kami nga sa kotse hinabol kamiii!!!! puro babaeeee!!! aaaahhhhh!!!

for me tama lang yan. imagine mo MGA batang nakatumpok sa mga island ng main roads in manila na nag-aantay ng red light tapos kakantahan ka ng “pasko na” or “boom tarat tarat” ni willie revillame. then kapag nag green light na ay magtatakbuhan pabalik sa center island.
okay lang sana mangarolling sila sa neighborhood. huwag naman sa main roads and highways.

Pareng Ronnie, mahihilig talaga sila sa makeup policies as if ma-so-solve problem na indi naman yon talaga ang totoo. As if gina-protect nila kids, pero indi ka, ba’t di solven ang poverty at paghihirap? di ba? Tagay pare! Tagay! *hik!

I agree, it must be banned not only during this season. Dapat buong taon bawal mamalimos sa gitna ng kalsada. Pwede namang mamalimos sa sulok kung hindi talaga mapipigilan ang mga namamalimos. Pati yung mga nagbebenta ng basahan sa gitna ng kalye dahil sobrang delikado talaga.

Alam mo, mga cosmetics na naman ang banat as if ma-so-solve nila yan. They are not solving the real problem which is poverty!!! Nakuuuuu!!!

i agree din dahil naku po…the kids are risking their life para lang sa iilang piso.
wala dito sa bayan ng mga alimango ang caroling na yan. ako sana ang magpapauso kaya lang takot akong baka hulihin ng polis, bawal kasi eh.
