A former SGV professional (anonymosity na lang para wag biruin) who I became friends with, who now works in Philadelphia invited me to attend this:

which is now on it’s 5th year of production, where last nights proceeds went to the Southern California Wildfire Relief Efforts. I mean, kaw ba naman, in front of these contestants, pag hindi ka masunog sa init! ewan ko na mga kabisyoooo!!!

(Sorry, this is not the complete line up of contestants!)
Pageant it is! Would you ever delete and erase beauty & good looks pageant in Filipino Culture? Nevah Matilda! Nevah! As Filipinos, we’re soooo engrossed with beauty pageants, we all could even recite word for word, punctuation by punctuation the final question given to who will win the crown! Don’t we! Don’t we?
Question: So, Miss Reyna Elena, aside from you needing some serious beautification project, what part of your body do you consider as your best asset?
Answer: My wallet.
*Nag-de-dey-dreaming while driving that I was one of the final contestant…
And driving to New York on a friday?! The usual 1.5 hours would now roughly be 3.5 hours! As in the world is converging on Lincoln Tunnel such that the traffic was not even moving! All warnings galore! Congestion warning! Traffic slowdown warning! Red code warning! Take the mass transit warning! Hmpt! Reyna Elena is in town warning! Daydreaming continued while traffic came to a halt!
Question: Miss Reyna Elena, how long was your long-lasting relationship lasted.
Answer: 45 minutes.
As you can see, this was my 1st time ever to be invited in an event like this so, it might even rain fire keri ko - and believe you me, not even the New York cops can stop me from going! Ok? For all I care, they could lock the tunnel, I will waddle along the Hudson River if I have to! hehehe!
This is now the 5th year that this non-profit organization is holding the event. I heard about this event many years back from my friend Bugs, who introduced me to Nomer, his friend, who would win the 2005 title. I was very surprised to see that Nomer was seated beside me when I arrived at the Hall! Kaya feeling ko talaga, contestant na rin ako!
Maghuhubad na ba ako?! Maghuhubad na ba ako?!
He pointed me to the cops accross the hall.
The Ginoong Pilipinas USA event was held at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Consulate on 5th Avenue in New York. As usual, I arrived dramatically late in a full-packed hall.
The event host was Kristine Johnson whose mother is from Angeles City, a half Filipina who now lives in New York. If you are a New Yorker, you’d see her as the anchor woman of CBS 2 News at 5 & 11pm along with Chris Wragge. Before joining WCBS-TV, she worked at NBC News, where she served as anchor for NBC News’ Early Today. Now, that’s a national show beamed not only in Continental United States but around the world! She’s a recipient of two Emmy nominations for her part in producing the series “Brendon’s Story” and ”Newsmakers”.
Ali Ewoldt was the events special guest performer. Ali is half Filipina, whose mother is from Pangasinan. She made her Broadway debut in Les Miserables and has performed in Disney’s Alladin and at Tokyo’s Disney Sea, West Side Story as Maria, Fantastiks as Luis and the King & I as Tuptim. She went to Yale University.
The pageant judges were Oliver Carnay of the Hollywood Foreign Press in Los Angeles, Danny Pagsambungan, the Exec. Franchise Producer of the Binibining Pilipinas Pageant in Jersey City, Bang Prada Lim a fashion guro from Hollywood, Emerald Damian Regional Manager of the Primerica CitiGroup, Grace Edwards a fashion designer in New York, Tom Scarangelli of the New York Police Department, Jing Monsanto of the Monsanto Foundation and April Tiamzon of the Asian Journal in New York.
And because I was late! I arrived at the right moment! (Sorry for my camera which sooooo ancient talaga!!!)

As I was watching them in their underwears… hehehehe! Ba’t ganun?! Ako pa ang nahihiya??? LALAKI BA AKO?!

Hiyang hiya talaga ako! Hmpt! Anong nangyari saken?!

Pero type ko talaga yong kengkoy dun sa gitna! hehehe!

Men!!! Mennnn!!!

When it rains, it’s four! It’s raining mennn!!!

Oohhhhh!!! This next photo c/o: http://nyclovesnyc.blogspot.com/2007/12/fifth-annual-ginoong-pilipinas-usa-2008.html

Woooof!!! Wooof! Wooof! (This photo c/o http://nyclovesnyc.blogspot.com/2007/12/fifth-annual-ginoong-pilipinas-usa-2008.html)

Ay carambaaa!!! Mamma miaaa!! (This photo c/o: http://nyclovesnyc.blogspot.com/2007/12/fifth-annual-ginoong-pilipinas-usa-2008.html

Whew!!! Ang init talaga dito! You have no idea! Mabuti na lang, we had such a great host!

And on to formal wear!

Curiously, walang nag-suot nang patadyong?! Hmm..

I sooo liked number 12! Hehehe! I wanna marry him! Actually, the crowd really like him as well. He’s got this charisma that drives the crowd insane when he does his ahh… well… I can’t explain… his talent! Ayun!

And this is Nomer… Chuva & Bug’s friend

And the five finalists were:

I was waiting for them na mag-hubad uli hehehe! I mean, for a second look… kaso… there was the question and answer chuvalinga…
Question: Explain the C in the Einstein formula…
Charing! hehehe!

Question: How long… *di natapos ang kestyon!
Answer: This long!
Charing! Pero ang cute na nya talaga!!! Pramis! Gusto ko pisil pisilin sya everrrr!!

After awarding the 4th, 3rd and 2nd runner up, it all came down to these two guys. I knew, Cute and Good-Looking Number 10 was really suprised to be called, after all, his name was the last to be called as one of the five finalist. I could see from his eyes that the other guy is the winner with all his buffed muscles and everything.

Wag na nating patagalin, da-drive pa ako nang Philly! And the winner is? Number 10 is actually cute and with his boyish looks at pagkatangkad tangad, I’m sure the judges did justice in choosing him! He was really suprised when he won – he was gonna ran to me ang hug me!

This is Marc Gueco, the winner!

Nagkasya na lang po akong magpa-piktyur sa tabi dahil wala nang pumansin saken…

And here are the members of my court! Maraming salamat senyo for a very interesting experience talaga!!!

The pageant ended at around 9pm, and we hurriedly left New York dahil we still have to go back to Aston, Pennsylvania for another Christmas Party where I was invited. Party to nung mga Filipino CPA Professionals dito where majority eh mga dating tiga-SGV.
