That’s my simple prayer for Marilou Ranario.Â

It’s such a depressing day for OFW’s. I could only offer my prayers to Marilou and her family. Honestly, have you ever prayed for somebody you don’t know? Would you pray with me that some miracle happens to Marilou and that she be spared of death? It’s all that we can do now because . . .Â
Well, as if it’s not bad enough that the Sentosa drama in New York is not yet over, another OFW in London was crushed to death. All these are happening under the backdrop with the RP envoy to Lebanon accused of malversation of funds and that Banco De Oro forecasts that $1 will be worth Php38 next year. You think that was enough? No. Here’s to cap all the bad news on OFW’s, Marilou Ranario.
It’s absolutely heart-wrenching and to think that reports have it that over 60,000 WOMEN are in the Middle East from total of 73,000 Filipinos! LORD HAVE MERCY!!! Consider the percentage! THEY ARE MOSTLY OUR FILIPINA WOMEN!!!
Here are pictures from Senior Enrique’s blog. A RALLY TO SAVE THE LIFE OF MARILOU RENARIO. Please visit his blog and thank him for the support to Marilou.

You know this would not happen to an American, a Brit, a Frenchman, etc. This is a sad state of affairs. I think that the Philippine government needs to do a better job in negotiating with the Kuwaitis. I do hope that there will be a favorable outcome.
This also further highlights the need to improve the local economy, reduce corruption, and put population control and family planning into focus.
OMG! There’s another coup d’etat!

Its really unfortunate that the Kuwait Supreme Court affirmed the death sentence of Marilou. Sending VP Noli yesterday after the said SC decision was a real pain.
We still pray that Marilou, and all other OFWs languishing in death row in the Middle East including Dondon, be saved. I guess, only our fervent prayers can save them now.

I symphatize with her family.
For me, we should stop sending them abroad. But pinoys are pesistent.
Come to think of it, when nicole was raped in Subic - even though she willingly went out with those americans and nagpakalango siya - ano ang sigaw ng taong bayan - ikulong ang mga Amerikano.
I’m not pro or anti anybody. I’m just simply frustrated with the system, the attitude of pinoys.
Now, the only thing we can do is pray for Marilou and hope for the best.
Pasensya na, Reyna, naglitanya ako. Katulad ngayon may coup. O diba binoto-boto si Trillanes, tapos ngayon, may coup.

Agree ako sa sinabi mo Nina, just like nung sinabi ni Kengkay.
But then again, you’ve said it right sa counter-argument mo na mismo na dala nga nang hirap nang buhay saten, kahit patalim, kakapit na rin.
Malaki rin minsan talaga ang kasalanan nang mga OFW’s (hindi patama to ki Marilou) dahil yun nga, gaya nung nangyari dun sa Canadian (sorry ho) wala man lang paalam or not even telling the embassy or the consulate where they are.
Dual responsibility. I know, minsan me mga kapalpakan ang Consulate and we all agree to that, kaso naman hindi naman lahat kasalanan nang Consulate dahil nga the other party - which would be the OFW - eh hindi kumpleto ang whereabout and the necessary papers kung minsan.
Tama yong sinabi mo. Alamin kung asan ang Embassy. Alamin kung pano pumunta. It’s simple di ba? Honestly, no one thinks about the Embassy unless me problema na - at yan ang naiisip ko with all of these news.
Sapalaran to. Dios na lang ang tangi nating katabi.
Ok lang yong lintanya, I do that to other blogs too.

And by support I mean: providing them a list of people/agencies who can help in terms of specific problems, legal/social/mental health support, visa/work permit assistance etc.
I do hope Marilou gets pardoned and is able to go back home. My prayers are with her and her family.

thanks reynz for the wonderful moderation. my apologies also, just got emo.
ako me bigote at mukhang Indiano na sa itim dito sa Saudi pero naharass pa rin ng Pakistani sa loob ng taxi, yung iba pa kaya. kaya i didn’t blame Rey Cortez, the Pinoy who was beheaded sometime this year after defending himself from the Pakistani taxi driver who harassed him.
kay nina, ideally mayrong “briefing” ang lahat ng OFWs na lumalabas, ang tawag dun, Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) na sobrang komersyalisado na ngayon, isa na lang syang half-day sales pitch ng banks, insurance, pseudo-NGOs (I wont name names, pero imagine pagbayarin ka ng P100 para sa isang OFW ID na aanhin mo naman) and what-have-yous. will that be enough? i dont think so.
now, to blame the victims would be totally outrageous. ilan ba ang OFWs? 8 million. ilan ba ang nagkakaroon ng problema at nakukulong? hindi naman siguro aabot ng milyon for the government not to be able to realistically address them. besides, sino ba ang may mandate and budget to address the problema of ofws-in-distress, esp. the ones in death row? the citizenry again? the community organizations? si darna, si captain barbell, si kamandag? it would all fall back to the government because lets face it, resolving the issue would require government-to-goverment talks.
its also easy for us to judge people na kumakapit sa patalim by working abroad (Ranario left to work in Kuwait for a salary less than USD200 - Php7,000 more or less) because maybe, we never faced hunger the way they do.
peace to everybody!

Droidz,
nina (276 comments.) reply on November 30, 2007:
yap, i know may briefing bago pumunta pero puro ek ek lang naman. Dapat dun, may information dissemenation kung ano i-expect sa middle east or dun sa country of destination how to behave and what to do in case of maltreatment.
Just imagine how people are treated sa government office natin. *sigh*

I was asking malen kung sino si Marilou Raniero, but she never answetred me. Maybe because she’s one ofher Obsession Mode again.
I don’t know what to say. I’m still angry with with all of the politicians especially what happened in the Peninsula yesterday. This is the most absurd ecoonomy that I have ever seen. Then she will realize that she’s already in God’s court, showing her all the things that filipinos are suffering from. Or sana dumalaw sya sa Payatas or smokey mountain para mamigay ng Philhealth, tapos biglang magkakalandslide ng basura at isa sya sa matatabunan dun. That would be a really great christmas gift for all filipinos around the world.

When Trillanes was going for the Senate, excited ako dahil he said ipaglalaban nya ang corruption and I thought he was going to be good. I’m not a fan of Gloria sa sandamakmak na kurapsyon ever na parating pamilya nya ang top billing, but am not happy with what Trillanes has done either.
Bat’ ganun? How could anyone just get into a private hotel, own the damn place, at gawing akala mo kanila!
I honestly believe that what they did eh puno nang failure right from the beginning. Ganito talaga, pagka selfish ang true reason, papalpak. That was not for Filipinos?! That fight was solely his!
Kung gusto nila nang right timing, how come wala silang ginawa nung pinalaya si Estrada???
If they’re fighting for Filipinos, how come wala silang ginagawa sa mga OFW na tinitigbak nang mga foreign govt at employers?
NO ONE is fighting for us. Bat’ noon walang gumagawa! Govt to govt negotiations dapat to noon pa.
bluep (501 comments.) reply on November 30, 2007:
YRH, that is exactly my sentiments. I would reply so many things here pero I would hold my mouth muna. abangan mo reynz yung post ko about dun sa nangyari kahapon. I’m still cooling myself down so that I won’t sound emo. Basta abangan mo either maya or bukas. Si Trillanes ay friends ko sa friendster pero I never voted for him kasi personal ang pinaglalaban nya at hindi sa bayan. If he really wants to help Filipinos then pass a bill that would block the president from corrupting. that would be a start! Matalino si trillanes at hanga ako sa prinsipyo nya pero sad to say he is sooooo stupid and impulsive. A cause that is not initiated by the promptings of the Holy Spirit would never ever succeed because it is only the Holy Spirit that can move and call people to rally like in Edsa 1 and 2, and not someone who just want revenge. In the last two people power, and i’m not saying this because I’m biased, the major force in the rally was not the personalities who went on the stage and called for a revolution… it is the thousand of priests, bishops, seminarians and nuns who were praying under the request of Cardinal sin. Yun ang pagkakamali nila. They went to war without heaven backing them up. Even at Bishop Labayen and Fr.. Robert Reyes went over board. and their actions does not reflect the whole Filipino Priesthood and Church Heirarchy. Actually they need more priestly formation sa pinakita nilang lack of prudence and judgment.
Human rights daw ang pinaglalaban ni bishop labayen… how about the rights of the innocent people in the hotel? the damages that was done on the property, their distracting barging on the lobby, and the personal functions that was held their. There are two married couples who just got married their and wasnt able to spend their honeymoon just because they barged in like that. Reyes and Bishop labayen na di nagiisip.
