Desperate Housewives, the epitomy of how dysfuntional families in the United States - it’s popular, it’s a must see on Sunday after Americans are finished with their spiritual sunday services in their mosques, churches or synagogues. This is suburbia trash in a subtle way. Ok, fine - blatantly upfront trash! It’s interesting because today, on CNN, it was blasted as a developing story that another trashy housewife showing off her puki-puki to the world is losing her kids to her ex-husband. She’s a good friend of another puki-puki show-off, faki-faki to the world and such a horrible model to kids. I won’t tell you who she is! You’re gonna have to tune in to Cini-Cini!
What’s the issue?

But you see, if this desperate show was set in the Philippines, we would call these women, BOPOLS - if you’re an American, you’re gonna have to find a Filipino to translate that wonderful word for you, because I am not giving you my wiki-wiki, ok puki-puki? You’re probably asking yourself, what in the world is going on with Reyna again? Is she delusioneee once again?
Kengkay Alert
NOPE. I was up in the ranch today. Working. When I was alerted by my German friend Kengkay with her post: Kick That Desperate Housewives Out!. But you see, Chuva and I love this show. He even rented the entire episode last year and we had a Desperate Party - a Very Desperate Party to finish about 5 or so DVDs on a marathon show. But last night, he was busy studying since he’s now a Desperate Student at Rutgers University and I have a Desperate Presentation I am preparing this Wednesday in Boston. That’s our Desperate Excuses.
Philippine Medical Association to Earth - Houston! We got a desperate problem!
But now that I have read Kengkay’s entry as well as all the shoutout in the Desperate Message Board, I hope the Philippine Medical Association better stand up and ask ABC for an explanation. But then again, it’s been said and done already - by this well, trashy show. I’m sure there’ll be another swipe at Filipinos in another episode or another show, or in another country. So, I’m not even sure if it’s even advisable for PMA to even write ABC News, considering the professional status of PMA and the trashy writers of ABC.

The best way to deal with it is to ignore it. I don’t watch the show, by the way.

@melai - hahaha insulto kasi… pupunta punta dito tapos lalaitin yung post. duwag naman at ayaw ipakilala tunay na identity at ayaw ilink ang blog nya. sino kaya ang plastic. mabait akong tao pero pag ba ganyan ang gawain ay lumalabas ang pagka demonyo ko.

HAY NAKU, Melai at Bluep
this is beginning to be a hot topic, i’ve actually made rounds of bloghopping and reading most blogs that are desperate (HAHAHA CHIKA) read: nagsulat nang desperate housewives, and what I noticed is that - yong some of the bloggers who have not been in the US or are in the Philippines are the ones who seemed to be annoyed at the fact that we are complaining and that we are over-reacting. Ilang pinoy bloggers lang ang I could count who feels the same way. Who knows, baka patas?
And I noticed - those were familiar bloggers! HAHAHA
My take?
They have not been in the US. They have not experienced how it is to be treated differently by lunatics here. They have no clue whatsoever what is an ordinary american workplace working with caucasians, blacks, hispanics and fellow asians. Not all americans treat all people nice. In other words, they can’t relate. Which is why - that may be a joke - but trust me, there are americans who actually believe those lines!
But this is not generalizing that all pinoys in the US feels this way. Not really. Am sure there are those who’d say keeri ko?

1. If the doctor is already practising in the US, it means that he has passed intensive and stringent training in order to pass the exam to be able to practice.
2. The diploma and transcript of every college graduate in the Philippines is subjected to accreditation in order to find out if the
curricular programs, the course description matches that of the US universities to provide equal playing field when it comes to taking examination or pursuing a higher education.
The purpose is contrary to the belief of many including those
graduates from the elite schools that they are only the ones recognized by the US Dept. of Education.
3. Most of those healthcare professionals in the hospitals and government clinics are not obstetrician and gynecologists.
They are nursing practitioners. What’s a nursing practitioner.
A nursing practitioner is one who has a masteral degree in Nursing. A “scholar of mine” a graduate of Phil. university
of non-nursing course was admitted in the masteral program.
What the people back there in the Philippines do not know is that not all registered or licensed nurses in the US are bachelor’s degree holder.
For the locals (that means those who are already here and have finished nursing courses from a vocational school) to be able to get the NCLEX here, one should only satisfy the required number of Nursing subjects only. He does not have to be a BSN.
Our nurses from the Philippines are BSN and RN.
so between a nurse here and nurse from the Philippines, the chance of being promoted credentials wise is the RP nurse.
I should know, I have been involved in the nursing inustry here.
The writers also missed the fact that most of the doctors here are foreign born and or who have graduated from other countries.
Medicine course in the States is very expensive that the locals would not enroll without the financial assistance, study-now-pay later. Ang pagbayad ang mahirap. I’ve seen a lot of medical specialists and most of them have foreign sounding names.
So yong mga Filipino na mababa ang tingin sa sarili nila dahil ang sabi ay mababa ang kalidad ng ating edukasyon, bakit pagpumunta rito ang mga bata na nag-aral diyan, naaccelerate pa sila.
Alin ba ang mas magandang edukasyon, yong walang ibinabagsak o yong maraming bumabagsak dahil hindi maabot ang standard.
Besides, I do not associate intelligence with the schools that he graduated from. Kahit saang Baryo siyete ka pa grumaduate kung talagang matalino at ismarte (matalino yong mataas ang IQ) na hindi assurance na papasapalagi) ka kahit saan ka dalhin, magsashine ka pa rin.
Minsan ang mga naisusulat sa script ay senyales na ang writer ay walang alam.
Teri is just an actress. Baka hindi pa niya alam kung nasaan ang Pinas. They just read what they memorized.
Ang gago ay yong scriptwriter.

when I was interviewed by an american employer from New York which I recently had my contract signed, he was so amazed that we already have some units in our masteral studies (pinoy nurses). It turned out that only few US born nurses have the ability or capacity to enroll in their masters. By his way of saying it, the reason “daw” why they are getting professionals from the Philippines is because they believe that we are competent and highly qualified compared to our US and Indian counterparts.
Tama si Ca t… good education is not monopolized by universities… nasa sa estudyante yun.
Will my University degree do me any good if even the simplest nursing intervention of raising the side rails of the patient’s bed slips my thought during a seizure attack, which by the way ay maraming matatatlino ang nakakalimot gumawa nyan during duty hours.

I like what you said and it’ true - really. It doesn’t necessarily follow that once you’re a graduate of a WKU (well-known univ) equals you’re smart. Much as I would have loved to be at WKU wa datung ang fadir but then, I got the chance to go to school in the US (Temple and GWU) and I know that my grades/GMAT and interview mattered more than being a grad of Barrio Siete.
I have not seen this petition about the boycott, but I have to respect my fellow bloggers for asking for a boycott - HECK! (mawawalan kami nang mga mapapanood na lalakiiiii!!!!), I still personally believe that it’s demeaning. Heck, I’ve worked with Americans for many many many many manyyyyyyy years at alam ko ang mentality nang mga yan! Pede ba! Which is why part of what I said, maybe it depends on where you are. If your’e from Barrio Siete - who cares. Di mo naman feel eh.
But yeah, it would be good to know what’s the state of mind of the writer.

the commenter should understand that when the politically incorrect terms come from their own people or ethnicity, it is accepted without much negative reaction, just like the Blacks calling each other N..
The same is true with the people in the third gender and am sure reynz would agree to this. They call each other B…la.

Now why the reaction on the racial slur… kasi hindi lang isa ang apektado kung hindi buong profession ng doctor sa US.
Si Isaah of Grey Anatomy was kicked out from the TV series because of the racial slur. The gay people were not oversensitive when they found his comments offensive.
Robin Williams movie suffered in the box office due to his comment about Catholic priests.
I am not also advocating for a boycott because I do not watch that TV series and it will just make people curious about the program.

Are you in the academe?
Did you have the opportunity to compare the two systems of education?
Do you have stats to back up this conclusion. If you are just parroting some people, then I would say that there is indeed something wrong with our educational system because it is a failure in imbibing self esteem and developing the skill of critical thinking.

Iba ang constructive criticism at at criticism which is meant to insult.
Kung ang hindi pag pansin sa isang insulto dahil isa ka ring mang-insulto, ano kaya ang mas magandang gawin?
Tigilan din ang pag-iinsulto.

Nagrereactn lang ang Pilipino kapag sila ang naiinsulto pero karamihan sa mga Pilipino, hirit pa rin sa pag-insulto!
Ginagawang parang low-class citizens ang mga may dwarfism. Mga katutubo ay ginagawang katuwaan ng mga malisyosong pag-iisip at pati na rin yung kultura nila na.
Nagagalit tayo sa American media sa paglapastangan ng imahe ng Pilipino pero tayo tayo rin, naglalapastangan ng imahe ng mga taga-ibang bansa at ng mga sarili nating kababayan. DJ Bumbay? Yung insulto sa mga Igorot, ita at di mapuputing tao?
Kaplastikan ng mga Pilipino.
Obviously, hindi mo nakuha ang nais kong iparating.

Kung sa tingin niyo nararqapat ng humingi ang mga Pilipino ng apology sa mga Americano, dapat tayo rin magissue ng apology sa mga
Bisaya - dahil ilang dekada na nating ginagawang katawa-tawa na ang accent nila at dahil kapag nasa maynila ka, ang iniisip ka agad eh “maid”, yuk b isya agad ang sabi.
Chinese - dahil noon, ang tawag sa kanila instik beho, tapos dinuduraan pa sila ng mga Pilipino nung dekada 50 at 60. Pero ngayon ,asaan na sila? Tagapagtaguyod ng ekonomiya.
Igorot — ilang beses na natin sila nilapastangan pero sabay sasabihin ng Pilipino na hindi igorot “ginawa na ninuno namin ang banawe rice terraces”. pero kapag babanggitin mo sa isang hindi igorot ang igorot, iniisip nila kaagad ‘may buntot’!
Aeta — nilalapastangan n atin sila dahil ‘kakaiba’ ang hitsura nila sa ‘typical’ na pilipino at dahil hindi sila gaanong katangkad at di maputi. maliban doon, basta nakakaita tayo ng di mapunting pilipino, sasabihin nalang ita ita ta! kahit di naman siya ita talaga. Tapos sa mga sitcoms din natin, pinagtatawanan ang mga may di kaputian ang balat.

Nakikita dito na one sided ang Pinoy. Sa kanila ayos lang manlapastangan ng iba kahit alam nilang nakakasakit sila, tuloy pa rin ang insulto pero kapag ang pilipino na ang nasa hotseat, nagagalit.
Kaya siguro isinumpa ang pilipinas, dahil ganito magisip ang mga pilipino. ayaw nilang tanggapin na kasing sahol rin sila ng mga racist diyan na hindi pilipino.

Ako naniniwala ako na bangkarote yung sistema ng edukasyon sa pinas …kasing bangkarote ng kasalukuyang adminsitrasyon at ng mga nauna pang administrasyon…pwede akong magbigay ng datos…bungkalin ko yung konti kong nalalaman dyan bilang dating estudyante pero di ako agree dun sa sinabing plastik ang pinoy dahil gineralize..may mga pinoy na plastik tanggapin natin yan..karakter yan e..pero kung sasabihing plastik ang pinoy e parang kastila yan na nagsabing mga tamad ang mga pinoy.

Mukhang nabasa mo lang ito kung saan. Palagay ko di ka pa naman buhay noong 50’s at 60’s.
hindi ka ba puwedeng magbigay ng sarili mong opinyon at kailangan mo pa ang history na tapos na at kailangan ang ungkatin.
Magkaroon ka naman mg originality. O kasama ka rin sa bangkaroteng educational system? Dahil ang aking transcript ay recognized dito sa States.

Kailangan mo siguro ng curriculum para sa mataas na pagtanaw sa sarili upang magkaroon ka ng pride para sa bayan mo at hindi yong ikaw pa ang sumasamang nagpapabagsak sa imagen ng bansa.

Hindi ako kailanman nangiinsulto sa bumbay, sa intsik at kung ano pa mang lahi. Bumisita ka sana sa blog kodahil maraming dun multicultural at multiracialbloggers. would you believe I have a fellow blogger who is muslim? she was the first one who gave me a nudge to get out of my friendster blog. and up to now she visits and read my blog from time to time considering she’s a singaporean moslem.
my point exactly is it is very unfair for us that you generalize all pinoys. not all of us are bigots. not all of us are racist.
the mere fact that we are reacting to this is because we do not want racial slurs of any kind precisely because hindi namin gawain yun. hindi kami guilty kumbaga.

I talked to my 5 cousins , 1 brother in law and one sister who happens to be nurses and doctors in the uS via phone and chat just this morning. they were angry and offended. they are also launching a US wide protest online (all pinoy and us doctors there) on friday I think.
Conclusion:
yung mga isinasantabi itong issue na ito at nagsasabing “we grow up” at “sensitive kami”ay obvious na hindi nakaranas magtrabaho sa abroad at maghugas ng pwet ng pasyente kaya wa epek sa kanila.
hindi intelehente ang labanan dito. prinsipyo to. kungdi kayo offended fine pero hayaan nyo kaming ilabas ang sentimyento kasi di naman kayo ang naghuhugas ng pwet ng mga taong di nyo ka-anoano!
yunlang. akala ko kasi kami lang sa pinas ang over reacting, madami pala kami at pasalamat ako hindi ibang High and Mighty bloggers lang ang may karapatan sa opinion… wag dumalaw sa blog namin kung hindi sang ayon. wag pati ako ilink ng ilink kasi di ako mahiligmagbasa ng mga blog na di ko type basahin lalo na yungmga self righteous. tapos!

Ang bilis ninyong magbigay ka ng generalization, wala namang katunayan.
Pag sinabi mong pangit ang isang tao, patunayan mo, hindi yong gaya-gaya lang kayong magsabi ng pangit.
May isang salita sa ganiyan. PARROT.
Ang hirap sa ibang Pilipino, mahilig silang mag-insulto ng kababayan pero itsa puwera sarili nila.
Ang mga line of thinking ay, kasi kasalanan din natin bakit tayo magrereklamo.
Puwes kung kasalanan mo ang mang-insulto, yon ang itigil mo. hindi yong tameme ka at katulad ng iba ay mag-aamen sa sinabi ng isang aktres na wala namang kaalam-alam kung gaano kahirap ang makapasok ang healthcare professionals sa US.
Alam mo ba kung paano ang US magvalidate ng credentials?
Ang mga issue ng diploma mills ay hindi pupuwede. Dahil diretso sila sa university at sa PRC. Pagkatapos babanat kayo tungkol sa educational system na kung totoo, hindi ka makakita ng ospital na halos kalahati ng staff ay Filipino.
Sinabi ko ako ay nasa nursing industry noon. Dahil may nursing registry akong itinayo. Para saiyong kasiyahan. ang mga Filipino nurses at iba pang healthcare workers ang hinihingi ng mga ospital dahil kilala sila sa sipag at sa galing sa trabaho.
Kung sasabihin mo lang ay mababa ang klaseng edukasyon ng Pilipino dahil sa English, kailangan makita mo silang sumulat.
English na nga ang kanilang salita, mali pa ang kanilang spelling.
Kung ako paniniwalain mo na nasa academe ng Pilipinas at nagkaroon ng oportunidad na magtayo ng iskwela dito sa US kung saan Pilipino pa rin ang lumalabas na magaling pagdating sa pag-unawa, at maniniwala sa isang kailangan pa ang opinion ng iba para lang masabing nag-iisip, patawarin mo ako. Hindi ganiyan kakitid ang isip ko. At minsan pumapatol din ako sa makikitid ang isip kagaya nito. Otherwise, masaya na ako sa blog ko.
Kung hindi ka naman nasaktan, huwag mo nang banggitin ang
nangyari noong panahon pa ni Mahoma para lang maipagtanggol mo ang iyong opinyon.
May mga issue na maaring daanin sa humor pero my issue na kailangan ang maging seryoso.

Pag nag-apply ka sa NCLEX doon mo mapapatunayan kung gaano kahigpit ng US of A pagkuha ng credentials ng mga Philippine graduates.
Pag nagrabaho ka sa USA, maipagmamamalaki mo na hindi lang isang exam ang ipinasa mo para makapagtrabaho ka doon kung hindi DALAWA.

thanks for the news. The US TV networks are viewers oriented.
ABC studios management knows the size of Filipino viewership in the USA especially LA.
They know that the cohesiveness of these Filipino viewers is what supported the Filam Cheryl Burke in the Dancing with the Stars competition.
It was also their texting power that sustained Jasmine Trias in the America Idol finals not too long ago.
So there is no need to call for a boycott or a ban. Just a demand letter for an apology is enough.
And for those kababayans who think that our own people also tend to discriminate people of other ethnicity, then condemn the act rather than write a generalization that all filipinos all racist
and therefore have no right to ask for rectification of a statement that some of us may find offensive.

may problema sa sistema ng edukasyon ng pilipinas noon at ngayon …nakita yan ni Raul Roco kaya nung nasa department pa sya may mga ginawa syang mga pagbabago sa loob ang problema ….ayaw ng mga nasa loob ng DECS ng pagbabago kaya ginawan sya ng isyu hanggang sa hilingin na ni Arroyo na magbitiw sya…
may problema sa sistema ng edukasyon noon at ngayon sa pilipinas kaya hanggang ngayon patuloy na kumikilos ang mga progresibong estudyante … na suportahan naman ng gobyerno ang edukasyon wag limitahan ang budget at huwag iasa sa mga private investors para naman hindi pataas ng pataas ang tuition fee….unti unti nawawala ang mga guro natin dahil sa halip na magturo dahil sa maliit na sahod e mas gusto pang mag DH sa mga karatig bansa sa Asya.
nagkakaroon ng brain drain ..yan nga diba ang mga doktor nag-aaral ng pagkanurse para kumita sa ibang bansa.
at higit sa lahat hindi ko iniinsulto ang mga kababayan ko … sa halip ang isang tulad kong nagkakatulong sa ibang bansa ang iniinsulto ng mga class A sa pinas.
alam ko ang sinasabi ko hindi ako PARROT…
at alam kong me punto ako sa sinasabi ko
at hindi ikaw ang hinahamon ko ng debate…dahil hindi ikaw ang pinatungkulan ko sa comment ko about BANGKAROTE….

Doktor din ang kapatid ko Cat, pero di sya na offend. Kulang kaya sya sa self esteem? I don’t think so…mataas ang self esteem nun, promise, lagpas pa sa stratosphere nung huling sinukat ko eh. Naniniwala ako na may mali nga sa edukasyon dahil sa mga rasong ibinibigay ninyo. Ang isa kailangan pang gamitin ang pangalan ni Raul Roco para lang makapagbigay ng opinion.
Hindi ba kayo hinasa na makipagargue na ang sasabihin ninyo ay sarili ninyong opinion at hindi yong sinabi ni ano at sinabi ni ganire.
Pagkatapos magwawala kayo pag hindi kayo makapagbigay ng ebidensiya dahil hindi ninyo ideya. At kung si Raul Roco ang gagawin ninyong dahilan na may kulang ang sistema, tama pa rin sainyo yon. Dahil ang inintroduce ni Roco ay mga subjects na makabayan kung saan huhubugin ang mga values ng pagpapahalaga sa sarili, sa bansa at kababayan.
Dapat yon ang ituro sainyo para hindi kayo takot magsalita
kapag naiinsulto kayo.
Tinananong mo sa akin kung walang self-esteem ang kapatid mong doctorr dahil hindi siya nasaktan.
Anong sasabihin ko kung mas marami sa mga doctor dito sa States ay nagsabing nasaktan sila?
Hindi rin ako matiyagang makipagdebate sa mga walang ibubuga. Sayang ang oras ko.

di ako dapat kwestyunin sa pagiging makabayan ko ..ni hindi nga ako marunong mag ingles e kasi mahal ko yung sarili kong wika…
at di ko alam kung bakit pati ako e sinasama mo sa mga taong nang-iinsulto sa kapwa pinoy? gayung sinabi ko nga na ako pa nga bilang domestic helper ang iniinsulto.
isa pa, hindi ako nagwawala, nagbigay ako ng mga batayan ko kung bakit sinabi kong mababa ang kalidad ng edukasyon..ganun yung nagsasalita kailangan may mga batayan..at yung batayan malinaw hindi kathang isip lang.
ngayon sabi ng isang dating kasama me puntos ako sa usapang ito pero naging subjective ako.
