The bottom line was just that I had offended the reader’s socioeconomic background. If any of these people actually read anything thicker then a magazine they would find it very funny. I obviously write for the a certain target audience and if what I write offends you, just stop reading.”

Reynz, Though I am entitled to a business class, most of the times I still opt to fly economy class to be with fellow OFWs. I like their smell, same like you and me. Smell of hardwork and sacrifices in order to support our family back home and help uplift our economy for the hard earned dollars remiitted monthly to our country. We the modern heroes, as our government call us, but belittled by an unknown columnist who wants to be popular at the expense of OFWs, and by an incompetent publisher who allowed this article to be circulated, could not help but express our feelings and opinion on this issue.

Ang kasabihang ” Nakikita ang butas ng karayom subalit di makita ang butas ng palakol ” ang siyang naisip sana ni Malu Fernandez bago niya isinulat ang panlalait niya sa mga Overseas Filipino Workers a.k.a. OFWs / OFIs, or Global Filipinos in general. Naintriga talaga ako sa mga kumakalat na balita tungkol sa write up nya vs. OFWs kaya naging intresado akong hanapin, basahin ang articulo. Subalit, laking pagsisisi at pagkabagot ng makita ko ang pagmumukha at pangangatawan ng babaeng social climber ata. Nakakadismaya at nakakahiya siya sa mga batikang mga columnista. Ang manlait o laitin mo ang kapwa mo mangagawa ay Hindi isang matinong gawain lalo pa ng isang Pilipinong columnista.Isang malaking pagkakamalaki ni Malu Fernandez yan at habang buhay niyang di makakalimutan lalo na’t kung sya ay mawalan ng kabuhayan.

This is an extremely irresponsible, self-serving, ignorant and ill-informed article that never deserved publication in the first place. Not even freedom of speech should have saved this article from an obviously much-need editing.
I have only read bit and snippets of it, but from what I have read so far, I’ve come to the conclusion that this woman has some very obvious problems—one of which is a lack of self-esteem (putting people down to bring her fat a__up?!). Do we even need to know that she needs to pop sleeping pills, or that her fat legs couldn’t fit in her seat without bruising it? If one digs deeper, we may also find that this woman is not entirely on the higher rung of society either, or at least didn’t start that way.
Someone with half her intelligence will know where to draw the line between journalism and the rantings of what appears to be a very unhappy and somewhat insane woman begging for attention.
This article is extremely irritating. Seriously, People Asia should have had more criteria in carrying this article. And this writer- she should apologize and be made to go through a seminar on informed, responsible, intelligent and fair reporting. It’s not all about wit and fancy- a report has responsibilities to its readers.
P.S. I think we should all consider writing up a reader response/complaint about this…

Am sure Malu knew the consequence of her act. Gusto lang talaga nya makuha ang attention ng mga OFWs para sya ang mapag-usapan.

di ko po matiis na di magcomment at iparating sa iyo itong natanggap kong e-mail. Sana , naman naging makatao at naging friendly na lang siya sa mga pasaherong kababayan niya. Kung magsalita siya at kung magaasta talo pa ang mga tunay na mayayaman at nasa alta sosyedad. Alam nyo ang katulad nya ay isang malansang isda na di dapat iluto o kainin, ibasura na lang este tama po ba? o di kaya’ys siya yung babaeng wala sa sarili kaya di niya alintana ang manlait at magmahal sa kapwa.
Heto pa po ang ibang sinabi ng aking mga kaibigan at napag utusan laman po akong isulat at ipabatid sa inyo ang kanilang nararamdaman sa mga isinulat against OFWs galing sa Manila Standards. With the recent irresponsible, elitist, bigoted, and discriminating comments made by Manila Standard Today columnist Marlu Fernandez in her People Asia magazine article “From Boracay to Greece†in which she makes many belittling comments about Overseas Filipino Workers and Filipinos in general, the response from Filipino bloggers have been overwhelming, and have not been light on the criticism. When do we say enough is enough and that we will no longer stand for the bigotry and discrimination that takes place, not only in this country but all around the world?
For her part, in her “apologyâ€, Malu Fernandez addressed the emails responding to her article. However, the apology, was nothing more than another attempt to take a jab at Filipinos and to once again assert that she’s an elite that those in lower socioeconomic classes just fail to understand or comprehend her “witâ€.

Aba naman hindi pa tapos ang laban nag resign na sya. Kung matahin nya kaming mga OFW ay gayon na lang pork e ba sya ay mayaman.
Ala eh parang pinagbagsakan sya ng langit at lupa dahil biro mo naman ang tatalo lang sa kanya ay mga OFW na kanyang pinangdidirihan. Lumaban ka pa ineng dahil hindi pa kami ginaganahan bahag na agad ang buntot mo. At ano naman ang kinakatakot nya sa hate mails at death threats. Ang mga ito ay lagi naming kasama sa paghahanap-buhay sa ibang bansa. Doon lang ay naduduwag na sya. Ms. Malu ipakita mong naiibang baboy ka este tao pala at may kakayahang laitin kaming mga OFW…….
