Are you in favor of withholding remittances to the Philippines?

FAVOR BA KAYO?

Nakita nyo ba? Now, we know that the rising peso is affecting remittances of OFW’s to their families. Yong mga opisyales nang gobyerno naten should take notice, what brought these OFW’s to ask for a special foreign exchange rate? To me, it’s not just about the exchange rate. It’s about the fact that they are staying on to work where they are now – AND NOT(!) in the Philippines dahil wala ngang opportunities dun sa mga mahihirap na gaya namen, no? Simpli di ba? Ba’t mo pa ipaglalaban ang exchange rate when you plan to go home anyway?

I’ve been talking about this in my blog, the effects of the rising peso. Matagal tagal ko nang pinag-da-da-dak-dak ang mga to. Ibalik uli naten ang nakaraan because it’s currently the flavor of the month dahil ngayon lang kayo nag-reklamo. Hmpt!

October 6, 1986 where I wrote:  $1=Php56, one year ago

Ganito yon. Consider this time frame.

May 23 2007 where I wrote: Peso surges to Php45.87? Time to celebrate na ba?

For one thing, who do you think are immediately affected by the rising peso? Who else but us, the overseas Filipino workers and everyone else who sends money to the Philippines.

On June 2, 2007, I recently had this one: GDP Exercise: Business news analysis, where you will find:

Strong peso hurting seaweed industry

Need I say more? We know this one already. When you have a strong peso, those foreign buyers will find our products becoming expensive and this is what our seaweed farmers are experiencing.

Strong peso wallops Davao’s banana growers

So, is the strong peso really benefits the majority of the Philippine labor workforce?

Finally, OFW’s are not only now feeling the pinch, talagang aray – aguy – sakit ‘day na ang dating.

» OFWs in Saudi launch online petition for ‘special forex rate’

» Recruitment firms urge gov’t to stabilize peso

» OFWs’ purchasing power depreciates as peso appreciates

At ang FINAL word nang Bangko Sentral nang Pilipinas?

» BSP won’t support ’special’ forex rate for OFWs

But of course BSP! I’m not really surprised by your reaction. That’s almost a given. For after all, we have a floating currency where our exchange rate is allowed to vary against that of other currencies and is determined by the market forces of supply and demand. Unless you peg the peso to a dollar at some rate. But of course, alam na rin natin na you have to provide provisions sa mga araw na baka dumating ang time at kelangang mag-devalue ang peso, am I right? At ano na nga ang nangyayari sa mga Pinoy in times of devaluation? Nakuuuu!!!

OFWs urge gov’t to peg peso at $1:P50, eye remittance cut

Oca said the OFWs have learned that the government would be willing to provide a special foreign exchange rate for remittances coursed through the Philippine Postal Savings Bank. The proposal, he said, was “insulting” as he questioned the government’s allocation of $1 billion funding to exporters for a preferential peso-dollar exchange rate.

Ok, which brings me to this question, if we all withhold our remittances to the Philippines, would we all be able to make our own statement that they should look and do something?

Alam nyu yon?

Ngayon, why not?

FAVOR BA KAYO?

Yes or No, I’d like to know, tell me the reason why.

Palagay niyo?
