We own the Philippines!
Imelda declared that “we practically own everything in the Philippines, from electricity, telecommunications, airlines, banking, beer and tobacco, newspaper publishing, television stations, shipping, oil and mining, hotels and beach resorts, down to coconut milling, small farms, real estate and insurance.” Imelda claimed these Tan companies for the Marcos family in a nine-part series which appeared in the Inquirer on Dec. 5, 1998.
You should read the news. Harap-harapan nang ina-angkin nang mga Marcoses ang mga hinihinalaan nating mga kinurakut nila and they’re almost saying that indeed these people who purportedly owned these properties are just dummies nang mga Marcoses. After all, for all the 20 year rule nang mga Marcoses, never did they declared on their Statement of Assets and Liabilities the existence of these businesses and shares of stocks. Parang ambabaw di ba? Ba’t mo nga naman ipapamahala yong interests mo sa ibang tao kung wala kang tinatago?
I find these recent news really interesting. There’s a lot of talks on the paper that there seemed to be some alliance between the Arroyo Government and the Marcoses which is why they (Marcoses) are now so blatantly bold and vocal about this. Now, a lot of the papers are now saying that there has been a lot of properties returned to the Marcoses. Returned?!
Let’s sit back and relax and watch how these developments unfold.
Here’s some links for you to read.
Marcoses claim 1/3 of GMA Network
The daughter of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos has asked the Securities and Exchange Commission to suspend the listing of GMA Network Inc. shares on the stock exchange, scheduled for Monday, because of what she said was doubtful ownership of shares held by one of the broadcast company’s three majority shareholders, Gilberto Duavit and his family.
She said Duavit, who bought the shares from Republic Broadcasting System, the company that became GMA Network, was holding the shares in trust for the Marcos family. O di ba? Ano sa tingin nyo? Isa kaya to sa mga ninakaw saten? Her mother, Imelda, and her brother, Ferdinand Jr., have made similar claims about the Marcos family’s ownership of substantial shares in other prime Philippine companies.
She said Duavit, who bought the shares from Republic Broadcasting System, the company that became GMA Network, was holding the shares in trust for the Marcos family. Ow? Kakatuwa naman. Kung totoo to, sila sila nag-aawayan! hahaha! Her mother, Imelda, and her brother, Ferdinand Jr., have made similar claims about the Marcos family’s ownership of substantial shares in other prime Philippine companies.
Ba’t 1/3? Nahiya pa! Inangkin na sana nila nang buo! Di ba? Dito, basahin nyo.
Sandigan asks Bongbong Marcos to testify vs Lucio Tan
Last month, lawyer Eloisa Sy, Bongbong’s counsel, said her client was prepared to support the government claim that a significant chunk of Tan’s assets belongs to the Marcos family, and that he had formally conveyed his intention to the anti-graft court. Sy declined to reveal the younger Marcos’ motive for agreeing to testify for the government now, considering that the state has been trying since February to serve him a subpoena.
The government stand that the Tan companies are part of the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses is largely based on a claim that Imelda Marcos made in 1998 that her husband was the real owner of 60 percent of the companies that she said were being held in trust by Tan, his family and business associates.

“I am a complex person who wears her feelings on her sleeves. My friends refer to me as the woman with harmless multiple personality (scary huh! lol)”, yan po ang sabi ni pink biik. Hay naku, what else can I say, di ba that’s why - birds of the same feathers - oink oink together? You know, abnormalities galore but heck! Another interesting topic is rejection. Philq8 is asking, Have you ever experienced being rejected by somebody whom you admired most or tried to reject the person whom you don’t really like personally? How did you handle it? ARAY KO! Naalala ko na naman ang rejection saken!!! How did I handle it? Umiyak and then over a bottle - bottles, TRAK of vodka!!!

Can you imagine how these people would justify whatever it is that they would shove to the Filipino people? They’re losing it! Heck! What’s legal does not necessarily mean that it make sense nor is it beneficial to the Filipinos as a whole! Guess what! We all know what’s behind these stupid deals?! We’re not a bunch of morons who cannot understand the deal behind the deal!

Kung wala kang pomada, mantikilya pede na.
Call it the separation of the church and the state but as far as the church is concerned, there seemed to be a lot of separation between that of the women’s dresses from their bodies. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a church proponent of changing the way you want to dress your body. Heck, what do I care. I’m not interested to see them anyway, unless you’re of the other kind! hehehe~!
Teka, me guidelines din ba sila dun sa mga baklang pari?! Weeeee!!! Oopps, sori. Slip of toungue. Ma-erase nga!
But the Archdiocese of Manila Sunday reminded the faithful that there is a proper dress code for attending Mass. The archdiocese’s Ministry of Liturgical Affairs (MLA) said wearing the proper attire when attending Mass is an important part of showing respect to the sanctity of the house of God. In guidelines posted at parishes and chapels, the MLA said the faithful should wear formal, semi-formal or smart casual attire when attending Mass.
Male Catholics are encouraged to wear long-sleeved polo shirts, collared shirts, or t-shirts paired with either slacks or jeans.
Women are asked to wear dresses, long gowns, or collared blouses.
The guideline said corporate attire and school uniforms are also allowed inside churches. However, no guidelines were issued regarding footwear.
Ngee!!! Ba’t kinalimutan? Flip-flops? Pede? Bakya? Pede?
The faithful are strongly advised not to wear caps, basketball jerseys, tank tops or jersey shorts and shorts during Mass. Women are also asked not to wear spaghetti-strap tops or tank tops, short skirts, skimpy shorts or sleeveless shirts with plunging necklines when at Mass.
So, di pede to…

To? Pede to?

You know, if they would only put an air-conditioner in the church, maybe people would change the way they dress, especially in the searing heat of the summer. Maybe this is the reason why this church over at Megamall is getting popular because it’s fully-airconditioned.
But my personal take on this is this - eh pucha naman no?! Magsisimba kang juedas ka! Aba! Hoy! Babae!
Hmmptt!

I love Businessweek!!!
I subscribe to a lottttttttttttttt of magazines! You have no idea how many! As a matter of fact, I could not even count them. All I know is that, the postmaster who’s been delivering them had already quit. We have a new one. Tameeka. Tameeka, being new, has been delivering mails all over the place - mali mali! Kaya tuloy, naglalaro kaming katukan nang pinto nang mga neighbors namen! One time, I got a porno magazine! And I was like - Tameekkaaaa! I swear! I did not subscribed to this one! Lo and behold! hehehehe! It was my neighbor! Dang!
Anyway, you know they’re supposed to insert these magazines one by one in our mailbox, instead they would just leave them outside by the door! Kaya when I go home and it rained! ‘Nyeta! Sasabunutan ko tong si Tameeka eh!!
THE PET ECONOMY
Anyway, if you’re a business - money - finance - world’s current events guy, I’m no BW sales agent, I’d like you to grab one of these copies. It’s loaded with a lot of great, great, great articles! Heck, even Matilda who doesn’t know what these are - would certainly buy one. Why? She’s got a dog just like that. And the dog’s got a crown just like that. Can you imagine how Americans went gaga with their furry animals? It’s to the tune of $41 billion dollars. Now, that should give you a clue on what to open as a small business! You need help in business plan? Hire me! You need someone to prepare your financials and operate your company? Talk to me!
THE SUBPRIME MESS
Ok, to all you business students out there, this is a very good read to understand what’s a sub-prime and it’s effect on the American economy. Now, I have a much, much, simpler sub-prime explanation that starts from credit ratings all the way to bundling all of these mortgages and how they end up to the investment houses.
Now, in the BW article, there’s an added twist where at the center of controversy are the big bond ratings agencies - Moody’s Investors Service, Fitch Ratings and Standard and Poors. These firms are being paid by companies to grade their bonds. What are these bonds? These are collateralized debt obligations. Don’t be shocked. It’s just a quirky name for mortgages that were pulled all together and put in one single investment called fund or bonds. That’s it. Meaning, mortgage nang neighbor mo, mortgage nang tita mo, mortgage mo, pinagsama-sama at ginawang isang fund. Ganun. Now, investors use those grades when deciding to invest or not. See the connection?
The big issue is that these ratings agencies are paid by bond issuers NOT by the investors who use their ratings. Now, this is way too simple isn’t it? If you issue bonds and then you pay someone to rate your bonds, isn’t that funky?! I mean, even myself, I’m gonna rate it sooo damn good so you’d pay me good money. Easy, ain’t it? Oh well, let’s just listen to all these blaming games.
BEST GLOBAL BRANDS
If you’re a business marketing student, can’t miss this great article! It discusses five brand names - big brand names that staged a turn-around. Then they have a list of the Top 100 Top Brands. I remember my marketing class in business school, we even discussed why these brands faltered. Reading marketing strategies is like reading spionage stories! But mostly, if you look at each brand, it’s all about differentiation strategy.
CHINA: A SLIPPING DRAGON
You know, there’s a lot of good news coming from China just in the last week or so. They have passed stringent regulations on food safety and all that. This is very good news. I hope they continue to do this - well, also human rights - but anyway, that’s good. But, in today’s BW, there’s a very, very interesting follow-up on last week’s issue of “Can China Be Fixed?” article. I really enjoyed reading this one.
Our July 23 Cover Story, “Broken China posed a provocative question. The article went beyond China’s flashy façade—the Starbucks cafés packed with young people surfing the Internet and streets clogged with shiny new cars—and examined the enormous challenges confronting the country on its path to becoming a modern industrial power. With China’s dangerous products, overheated stock markets, endemic corruption, and a spreading eco-crisis, the mainland’s growth-at-all-costs economic model is looking increasingly unsustainable. Worse yet, the involvement of local Communist Party officials in all facets of business makes it difficult, if not outright impossible, for Beijing to press ahead on reforms to build a social safety net, clean up the environment, spur innovation, and make China’s capital markets more efficient and transparent.
As soon as our magazine hit newsstands and went live on our Web site, letters and e-mails began to stream in. We were struck by the passionate defense of China from readers who accused us of unfairly taking Beijing to task. And several suggested that if we were to examine the U.S. through a similar lens, we might well find comparable ills. But many readers hailed the article for asking tough questions about whether China will be able to overcome its problems and develop into the world’s next superpower.
Here are some edited excerpts:
For years now we have heard endless stories about China’s labor-cost advantage being the reason so many U.S. factories have been shuttered, with production being shifted to China. The U.S. just can’t compete, we’re told. But the real cost advantage China has over the U.S. is the lack of oversight and regulation obvious in the poisonous air and water in China. The Chinese public puts up with environmental abuse on a scale that would never be tolerated here in the U.S. This is the real cost of cheap imports.
Eric Dalton
Little Rock, Ark.I find this article a bit one-sided, to say the least. It is obvious that, once again, it is all about China-bashing. What China has achieved in 25 short years America failed to do in 100 years. Some people just refuse to accept the fact that the sleeping giant is now awake. Get used to it: 1.3 billion people don’t care about the views of the authors of this article. In time, China will address and fix some of its problems. The writers should concentrate on giving advice to America on how to fix its basket of domestic problems, such as health care, jobs, budget deficit, and lack of government accountability.
Screen name: humanbeing*
When I first came from China to America just a year ago, I could hear or see news about China every day, and most of it was about how fast China’s economy is growing. But all I could remember was the corrupt government officials, the poor countryside, and the extremely polluted water and air. The government is uncontrollably digging up minerals, drilling deeper wells for oil, chopping more trees to make space for factories. The system is unbalanced. The economy takes precedence over the environment. Sometimes, I feel that China is more of a capitalist country than the U.S.
Xuewei Wang
Leyden, Mass. The capitalist system that China is moving toward is a well-beaten path, all its atrocities included. Once one realizes this, China’s ascent starts to seem quite ordinary. China’s competitive advantage—with its cheap labor supported by poor human rights, its cheap manufacturing subsidized through lack of regulation, its counterfeit culture thriving through lack of a strong government hand—will eventually diminish, and its growth rate will stagnate. Then the country will be left with some mighty big messes to clean up.
Ross Carver
Arlington, Va.I taught English in Nanjing in the late 1980s, and from what I’ve read in this article it seems that despite the warp-drive growth rate and the glitzy Shanghai skyline, a lot of things, particularly the environmental problems, have hardly changed at all. That’s doubly true for the Communist Party cadres. My Chinese friends called them rascals then and are still calling them rascals now. Official corruption has been an important factor in the collapse of every imperial Chinese dynasty for over 2,000 years.
Screen name: Mike Gallagher
There are those who defend China by saying: “The West took several hundred years to reach its current level of technological development, social justice, and concern for human rights and the environment. Let’s be patient.” But if China started its industrial revolution with modern technology, why doesn’t it also embrace a modern mind-set? China adopted only the worst parts of capitalism: greed and selfishness. It has no use for democracy, human rights, social justice, and environmental protections. With its new wealth and technology, China will become a bully and menace to the world.
Screen name: Chang Liao
I had to keep coming back to your title page, Broken China, to realize I was reading about “them” and not “us.” “Why then is it so hard for this same government to crack down on exporters of tainted seafood, toothpaste…?” How many millions of illegal immigrants are now in the U.S.? “Shanghai’s stock exchange…an even bigger casino.” Ever heard of Enron or WorldCom? “In its pursuit of growth at all costs, China skimped on investments needed to provide basic affordable health care…”Seen Sicko yet? “…Local Communist Party officials enjoy wide latitude over social and economic affairs.” Who’s the ex-mayor of Newark (N.J.) who was just indicted on multiple counts? “China doesn’t lack the finances to fix its shortcomings, and it has the legal structure for regulating the environment, health care, and worker safety.” How much are the wars costing? Was that $12 billion a month? How many Americans are in favor of them? How many homes, post-Katrina, are considered fixed? Puh-lease. Give the Chinese a break; at least they’re trying.
Dan Coughlin
Garwood, N.J.I am from China, and I think this article is fair. Most Chinese are conflicted between pride for our country’s development and concerns for its precarious social, legal, and economic infrastructure. I’ve seen a lot of traditional values eroded to make way for progress, and it’s disheartening. But I do believe that a moral backlash is imminent and China will act swiftly to clean up its act, or risk losing a lot of face.
Screen name: Chanalyst
“Can China be fixed?” is the wrong question. The right question is: “When will China be fixed?” Yes, the problems are daunting—one-party rule, environmental devastation, endemic corruption, and intellectual-property piracy, product quality problems, and a volatile stock market. But China’s precarious path is the same one followed by Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan to their current successes. The four Asian cultures also share the tools for fixing all things—a strong work ethic and high value placed on education. It’s too bad that we Americans don’t share the latter!

Hillary and Obama battle it out on Diplomacy
During all these pre-primary months, both of my favorite candidates were dancing, trying to be nicey-nicey to each other, hugs, kissy-kissy, at one point Obama’s camp threw some negative slings to Hillary and immediately retracted, you know, it was one of those moments that they have to maintain this nicey relationship.
Not anymore Matilda! Nagkakalmutan na sila!
Democratic presidential front-runners Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois are finally going after each other like insane. Indeed, the US Presidential Election had officially started! In the next few weeks, we’d now be hearing a lot negative ads from each other! I am soooo bothered! I love Obama! I love Hillary! But then again, you be in Manila, you be in Washington DC, elections are all the same. They’re full of the same! Mudslinging, character assasination, you know what I mean? Well, today is just the start. We’d sure be hearing a lot more of this two.
As a first salvo, here’s what their fighting for, it’s in the area of DIPLOMACY, on meeting foreign leaders. Watch both video and decide.

Stock plunges! Yet another 310 points!
A tidal wave of worry about housing and credit markets swept over Wall Street Thursday, sending the Dow industrials tumbling 311 points in its second-biggest point loss of the year.

Why am I not surprised?!
Wall Street suffered one of its worst losses of 2007 Thursday, leading a global stock market plunge as investors succumbed to months of worry about the mortgage and corporate lending markets. The Dow Jones industrials closed down more than 310 points after earlier skidding nearly 450!
Subprime! Subprime! Subprime!
Investors who had been able for months to largely shrug off discomfort about subprime mortgage problems and a more difficult environment for corporate borrowing finally decided it was time to sell after the Commerce Department issued another disappointing home sales report.
Calling James Bond!
While stocks plummeted, investors poured money into the safe haven of the bond market. The soaring price of Treasurys pulled yields lower, and the rate on the 10-year note plunged to 4.79 percent from late Wednesday’s 4.90 percent.
In the next few days, let me introduce you to the concept of bonds so you would know why most investors are retreating to bonds. Now, can I make a fair forecast that home prices will still come down? Don’t trust me though. I have to make this statement: Eye em not a financial advisoreeee!!!

When did I ever became a stock market analyst?!
You know what I wrote last July 14, 2007? It’s this one: US Dollar Hits New Low! Then yesterday, Wall Street had a very tough day, dudes and dudettes! The Dow tumbled 226 points on worries that housing, subprime mess will dent corporate earnings growth and it looked like it will because most investors were worried about the prolonged housing slump! And boy, I was so damn right!
When did I ever become a stock market analyst?
No, am not. I’m just a regular geek blogger who reads Business Week, Forbes, Wall Street because I had no freakin’ choice. Why? Because I subscribed to truckloads and truckloads of shit papers and I realized they’re just gonna be trashed so why not read them, ha?
The next and biggest wave of problem loans could come as monthly payments soar for both prime and subprime borrowers who took out adjustable-rate loans with little or no documentation, or who used so-called piggyback loans on top of their first mortgages to make up for small down payments, analysts said. These exotic loans were the only way many borrowers — even those with good incomes and sterling credit histories — could afford to get into the housing market as home prices soared in the last decade. But now those decisions are looking suspect.
Watch out for you investments my readers!

Something’s funky going on in mah site!

Ok, who’s the culprit now? Who are these group of people visiting my site and driving my ratings to the roof? When I posted my breakup story, a lot of people started flocking to my site and I was going nuts because I didn’t realize there were that too many chizmochaxs out there!
I posted my break-up story on the 20th and instantly, the readership picked up. But there were three things that’s driving my readership!
1.) Nursing results
2.) Dancing prisoners
3.) Sauna
Why are all the students in the Philippines rocking my site? From what school are you people? Let me guess? Political Science students doing some term papers? I’m sure only Political Science students are the ones who’d be interested in the Sauna 2007.
But not to be left behind, the nurses are also just around the corner. Everyone is waiting for the release of the latest Nursing Board Exams. According to my confidante, the results will soon be out. I said - SOON.
But between these students are my worldwide audience who are just going gaga with all the Cebu Provincial Detention prisoners dancing to the music of Michaela Jacksonite.
Well, welcome people to my site! I’d be glad if you could leave some footprints and leave me some message or two!

Thriller at Cebu Provincial Detention Center
I’m sure you will be seeing a lot of these in the next couple of days and let me tell you, if this doesn’t land on the Top Ten List whatever on David Letterman’s desk, I don’t know what would. The world is already picking up the feeds and it’s getting a lot of awards on YouTube. They should do ramp modelling directed by Paris Hilton. But I really got a kick out of this one. Enjoy!

The 1500+ inmates of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Cebu City, Philippines, do a lot more than just languish in a cell. They have livelihood programs and personal savings accounts, allowing them to earn and save money for legal fees or the families they left behind. Perhaps even more impressive is what they do with the rest of their time: rehearse and perform elaborate parades and dance numbers, like the recreation of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” seen here. The choreography, the coordination, and the precision are insane. The Rockettes have nothing on these guys
