In July 2, 2006, I had a blog entry trying to feature about successful entrepreneurs in the Philippines. I thought we need some role models. I picked up this supposedly successful entrepreneur – where else, but on the Entrepreneur Magazine in the Philippines. Here’s an excerpt of what I wrote:
This morning, I received an email from another reader (Mr. Luneta) and gave me a link. It’s a story from the Philippine Star. It goes:
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) launched Saturday a manhunt for the “operator” who reportedly hired the assassination team that killed a businessman outside his home almost a year ago in Manila. Special Investigator Darwin Francisco of the NBI-Special Task Force (STF) said they are looking for George Duazo, alias Toto, 31, of 8 Esteban Street, Malibay, Pasay City. He is the remaining suspect in the murder of Gil Manlapaz Sr., who was shot twice outside his house along Pedro Gil Street in Manila. On May 31, NBI operatives apprehended soft drinks wholesale dealer Anita Buce at her office warehouse in Pandacan, Manila for being the alleged mastermind in the Manlapaz killing.
I was shocked! I can’t believed I featured somebody in my site and now is a suspect in a homicide! I was soooooo mistaken in having her as our role model!!! I regret featuring here her!

I want to read it first… baka naman media hype lang ito reynz? anybody can be a suspect. pero if it was true, I think you should make a follow up story regarding her downfall kung bakit sya nagka ganun. tipong “the rise and fall” of madame anita. You wanted to inspire your readers when you wrote your story about Anita. Your readers did understand your point. I guess some were inspired. The thing is you cannot predict the future nor read the hearts of people. You cannot even place yourself as prosecutor or judge to a suspect.
I suggest that you leave her alone. You have the gift for writing. You can use that for topics more worthwhile.

also, mr. luneta emailed me that she’s also a landgrabber if you check his comments on the other article. now, i don’t know about this. but there are court of appeals documents on the internet that talks about some land in pandacan, i got tired of reading and honestly, i could hardly undertand them – who knows if she’s a landgrabber or not but what matters at the moment is that she’s got a lot of things to prove about her connections with the manlapaz killing.

just an update, the NBI in coordination with Philippine National Police-PACER already arrested George Duazo @ TOTO last December 27, 2008 in Silang, Cavite and was presently detained at the Manila City Jail. Last May 2009, Mr. Duazo executed his extra-judicial confession before this Agent and narrated what he knew and who masterminded the killing of GIL MANLAPAZ, together with the earlier confessions given by the triggerman and two look-outs. A new case of MURDER was filed at the Department of Justice (DOJ) against Anita Buce. LET JUSTICE TAKE IT’S COURSE!!!

Maraming salamat sa update. Sa wakas nahuli rin si Duazo, sya lang ang makakapagpapatunay na ang BERDUGO ng Pandacan ang mastermind ng Gil Manlapaz murder.
Imbistigahan nyo rin ang mga Manila prosecutors/judges na nasa bulsa ni Anita Buce, talamak po dyan sa RTC at MTC ang pagka kurap ng judges partikular na ang mga prosecutor, HAWAK ni Anita Buce lahat yang mga yan…Swelduhan nya lahat yang mga yan…ipagtanong nyo lang po sa mga clerk of court kung ano modus operandi ni Anita Buce dyan sa RTC at MTC sasabihin nila sa yo ang lahat ng nalalaman nila.

Our father (Rogelio Buce) died last year, November 11, 2010 of heart attack in his home in Tiwi Albay with his 2nd wife and 4 children. He suffered for 3 long years for enlargement of the heart. 3 long years with a support of oxygen and medicines to prolong his life. All of that with the support of our Mom Anita Buce. Until the end she never fails to give him a decent rest.
I just want to clear na si Anita Buce ang nagpapatay sa Asawa nya. NAPAKALAKING KASINUNGALINGAN YAN !

MANILA, Philippines – Umapela kahapon sa Supreme Court (SC) ang pamilya ng pinaslang na negosyante sa Maynila na obligahin si Judge Marcelino Sayo ng Manila Regional Trail Court branch 45 na mag-inhibit sa naturang kaso.
Sa liham na ipinadala sa SC, sinabi ni State prosecutor Hazel Decena-Valdez na nabahiran umano ng integridad ang hukuman makaraang i-dismiss ni Judge Sayo ang kasong pagpatay sa pangunahing suspek sa krimen na si Anita Buce.
Inutusan at binayaran umano ang tatlong suspek na sina Frederick Lelis, Raymond Mercado at George Duazo para patayin si Gil Manlapaz noong Disyembre 2008, bunsod umano ng away sa negosyo.
Sa follow-up operation na PNP-PACER ay ikinanta ni Duazo na si Buce ang umano’y nag-utos sa kanila para patayin si Manlapaz kapalit ng kabayaran na P15,000.
Dahil sa pagsisiwalat ni Duazo ay agad itong isinailalim sa witness protection program ng DOJ.
Ayon kay Mrs. Josephine Manlapaz, biyuda ng pinatay na negosyante, labis siyang nanlumo at nagtaka noong idismis ni Judge Sayo ang kasong murder laban kay Buce sa kabila ng iniharap nilang matitibay na ebidensiya, testimonya at pagharap sa hearing ni Duazo.

I just read your write-ups about this woman Anita Buce. She is really the devil’s incarnate. She pays her workers way below minimum wage and they work 14 hours per day. The latest I heard is that she’s been found guilty of murder and is now in hiding.

UPDATE:
Finally, justice will be served. The murder for hire middle man in the Manlapaz killing turned state witness and spilled the beans on this evil woman.
She’s also being linked as the financier of Kuratong Baleleng and Alvin Flores gang.
Another case was also filed against her for masterminding her boyfriend’s wife murder back in 1984.
Rumor has it, that she also have her husband killed to collect insurance money.
I hope the NBI and DOJ doesn’t succumb to her corrupt ways by accepting her bribes. The previous administrations DOJ was her #1 protector.

MANILA, Philippines – A businesswoman accused of murder and her 2 companions were arrested last week by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Naval Intelligence Service.
The suspect was identified as 65-year-old Anita Chua Buce. She is accused of masterminding the assassination of business rival Gil Manlapaz on June 29, 2006.
Manlapaz was gunned down 5 years ago while he was tending his grocery store along Pedro Gil St. in Manila.
A breakthrough in the case occurred when one of the lookouts, identified as Dennis Lelis, was arrested for vagrancy a few years ago.
Lelis allegedly wanted their contractor in the killing, a certain George Duazo, to bail him out of jail.
When the latter refused, Lelis is said to have confessed his participation in the assassination out of spite.
Duazo, triggerman Raymond Mercado, and another lookout, Jose Reblera, were subsequently arrested by authorities.
Duazo later turned state witness and identified Buce as the mastermind.
Original target
According to the victim’s wife, Josie Manlapaz, she and not her husband was the original target of the assassination.
Manlapaz said that the family used to be business partners with Buce before they decided to branch out on their own.
“Alam ko na may galit siya sa amin, pero di ko akalain na magagawa niya ito. Bago ‘yung pagpatay nila kay Gil, may mga death threats na rin kami pero di ko pinapansin,” said Manlapaz
She said the assassins accepted the job for a measly P15,000.
Gang financier?
Buce was brought to the Manila RTC Branch 173 for her arraignment on Wednesday. She wore a shawl over her head to hide her face from the media.
Lawyers of Buce had little to say to reporters, but insisted that their client was “not guilty”.
According to NBI Anti-Organized Crime Division (AOCD) head Atty. Rogelio Mamauag, Buce was also charged with the murder of Carmen de Guzman, the wife of her former boyfriend, in 1984.
Buce is also being investigated for other criminal activities.
“There are allegations that she is also the financier of the Kuratong Baleleng and Alvin Flores Gang, but these are still being investigated,” said Mamauag.
The Kuratong Baleleng is an infamous kidnap-for-ransom group while the Alvin Flores Gang is an alleged carjacking syndicate.

WOMAN TRADER DENIES SHE’S FINANCIER OF KURATONG AND ALVIN FLORES GANGS
A businesswoman, who was earlier arrested by agents of the National Bureau of lnvestigation (NBI), vehemently denied she was the “financier” of the the long- defunct robbery-holdup groups Kuratong Baleleng and Alvin Flores Gangs. In a Statement, Anita Buce, through the Chavez Miranda Aseoche Law Office which was handling the case, said that the allegations made by the NBI through press statements issued to several daily newspapers. are serious and unsubstantiated. “Buce denies any involvement, much less any link, to these two long-defunct criminal groups. Other than its naked and bold assertion, the NBI has made no unfounded claims,”the statement said. In the news articles, the newspaper said “NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula identified the suspect who was been in hiding for five years as Anita Buce, 65, a businesswoman and resident of Pandacan , Manila.” But Buce said there was no truth that she went into hiding and that such claim is reckless and baseless. She explained that she was never in hiding, and for the last five years, she personally tended to her businesses. In fact , when the arrest warrant issued by the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 173 in Criminal Case No. 10-276156, was served upon her by the NBI, Buce did not resist and went voluntarily with the NBI agents. She also revealed that prior to the arrest, she and her daughter have been receiving several death threats from unkmown sources and which threats became the subject of a blotter report duly filed before a police station in Ermita , Manila. Buce also denied any knowledge of the purported P250,000 reward intended for her arrest in connection with the case. Buce maintains the criminal case is a lame attempt to revive an earlier dismissed case againest her. In 2007, the Manila RTC Branch 03, had previously cleared her of criminal culpability in the alleged killing of one Gil Manlapaz Sr. Even the Court of Appeals (CA), she said, has refused to give credence to the testimonies of earlier witnesses who gave sworn statements against Buce, thus resulting in her eventual discharge as an accused in the 2007 criminal case. Again in 2010, the Manila RTC Branch 45, found no probable cause to hold Buce criminally liable over the Manlapaz killing. Significantly in 2010, the prosecution even refused to proceed with the arraignment of Buce despite her presence in court.

if you will see only one side of a coin you’re not suppose to be a writer either have this page. An accused is not a criminal yet until proven guilty. There should be no single doubt to the motive of the witness to nail down the accused. I was in the small door inside the court room when Duazo testifies and from my own point of view he’s not telling the truth coz his testimonies goes like this : Prosecutor questioned the witness Duazo (prosecutor talked in english but there was one guy interpret it in tagalog) : Sabi ng prosecutor : Ano ang ginawa mo ng inutusan ka umano ni Anita Buce ? naghanap po ako tapos tinawag ko sa kanya ang sabi ko po wala akong nahanap. Prosecution ask again : Ano pagkatapos ang ginawa mo ? wala po , umuwi na po ako. There was one exhibit na nagkakaron ako ng doubt , may ginawang salaysay si witness na parang binabayaran sya ni Mrs Manlapaz ng malaking halaga para ituro lang si Anita Buce . With Signature and thumbmark ng witness ha. May mg salaysay din ang witness sa prosecution na walng pirma. KAYA ANO NGAYON ANG MOTIBO NI JOSIE MANLAPAZ PARA PAGBINTANGAN ANG AKUSADO? NEGOSYO? Mga anak yan ni Anita. Kita mo mga gunggong din. Ganyan talaga, kung ano ang puno, yun din ang bunga. Balang araw papatay din yang mga yan. Sa ngayon, mga mandaraya pa lang. Di nila alam na pinagtatawanan lang ang pamilya nila dito sa Pandacan. Kahit yung mga malapit sa kanila, pag talikod e binebenta sila. When she was arrested first sometime 2008 , HINDI SINABI NI JOSIE MANLAPAZ ANG TUNAY NA ADDRESS NI ANITA BUCE TO SERVE THE SUPOENAS (3X) FOR HER TO ATTEND AND ANSWER HER ALLEGATIONS. SAMANTALANG THEY WERE FORMERLY FRIENDS. SHE KNOWS ALL THE HOUSES AND PROPERTIES OF ANITA BUCE. SO, SA UMPISA PA LANG JOSI MANLAPAZ WAS MISLEADING THE JUDGE FOR HIM TO ISSUE A WARRANT OF ARREST.

The case was dismissed because the former judge hearing the case and city chief prosecutor were bribed for 5 Million pesos according to the rumor going around at the DOJ.

An elusive female accused of murder was arrested, together with two companions, by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) operatives in coordination with the Naval Intelligence Service last week in Parañaque City.
NBI Director Magtanggol B. Gatdula identified the suspect as:
ANITA CHUA BUCE, 65, businesswoman, and resident of Pandacan, Manila.
Also arrested were Jovito Isidro and John dela Cruz
The victim was Gil Manlapaz, Sr., grocery store owner.
Investigation report of the Anti-Organized Crime Division (AOCD) headed by Head Agent Rogelio M. Mamauag, disclosed that the case originated from a previous probe by the then NBI – Special Task Force in 2006.
It was bared that Manlapaz, was gunned down while tending his grocery store along Pedro Gil St., Manila in the afternoon of June 29, 2006. After thorough investigation, the Bureau was able to identify and recommended the prosecution of the hired killers including the mastermind, Buce.
In the course of the court battle, one George Duazo, who was allegedly hired by Buce to look for a gunman, surfaced. In his sworn statement, he deposed that Buce was the mastermind in the killing. After five (5) years of legal battle, the RTC of Manila, Branch 173 finally charged Anita Buce for the Murder of Manlapaz and issued the corresponding Warrant of Arrest on March 8, 2011.
Despite the development, however, Buce proved to be elusive, prompting authorities to put up a reward of P250,000 for her arrest. In the meantime, the victim’s family sought NBI assistance for her arrest. After four months of intensive sleuthing, Buce was finally sighted in the vicinity of Teleperformance Call Center and Shopwise, Sucat Road, Parañaque. In the evening of June 22, 2011, in coordination with the Naval Intelligence Service, the NBI – AOCD team collared and arrested Buce.
Also arrested were Isidro and Dela Cruz who were with the suspect at the time she was nabbed. They were brought before the Department of Justice for Obstruction of Justice under PD 1829.
Buce was also charged with Murder of Carmen de Guzman, the wife of her then boyfriend, in 1984. Also based on an intelligence report, she was the alleged financier of the Kuratong Baleleng and Alvin Flores Gang.
