“Lagot sya sa nanay nya!”

Twenty-one years after she emerged the heroine of the People Power revolt that toppled the Marcos dictatorship, Corazon Aquino appears to have proven that the “Cory magic” lingers.

The former President is being credited with giving the sluggish campaign of her only son, Genuine Opposition senatorial candidate Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, a vigorous push. The TV ads showing her assuring Filipinos that Noynoy would make a good senator, or “lagot siya sa nanay niya (he’d have to answer to his mom),” are said to have done the trick.

Before his mother endorsed him on TV and radio and on the campaign trail, Noynoy had contented himself with plugs from his sister, popular TV host Kris Aquino. But his awareness and endearment ratings were far from satisfactory.

Since February, Noynoy had been struggling to break into the Magic 12 in surveys conducted by Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia Inc.

After Aquino’s “Lagot siya sa nanay niya” ads and personal forays in the Visayas, the results of the last survey conducted by SWS prior to the May 14 polls showed Noynoy in the sixth slot

    4. parang ang hirap pumili ng kandidato ngayon halos iisa ang gimik. magkaka-alaman lang talaga ay sa track record at plataporma. Noynoy is in my list for now.
