My business empire is at the mercy of a PLDT messenger!

This site is now beginning to be my entrepreneurial diary. I should have blogged my whole experience when I started my 1st Internet café and the whole business licensing system dsyfunctionality that we’ve gone through just so we could have our own business. It was such a ridiculous mess. It was so much that we were going bankrupt from all the under the table fees that we paid. It was so bad that even the powers that be took our server and asked about Php150k from us and brought my manager to the precinct and lock him up there. Luckily, I was in Manila at that time and I called “somebody” who happens to know those powers that be in that “station”. But that business is gone now.

As Frank Sinatra have it… “Let me try again!”. And so eto na naman ang makulit na Reyna! Trying to earn some dough para mapalitan na tong kinakalawang na korona!

I really wanted to be successful in this project. I know, running a business with a 13 hours time difference is crazy, let alone managing some very difficult people. But I never lose hope and I know that one day, I will stumble upon a good person and a good business partner. I have already ran across and been in business with some terrible, horrible, unbelievably crazy business partners whose personal interests are 1st on the line, over and above the business interest.

Such has been my lousy business experience. Many times, I would ask, what the hell is coming out of me that I seem to attract dysfunctional people? Duh!!! I came from a dysfunctional family! What am I talking about! *tok tok tok* (kinakalug ulo)

And so the dsyfunctionality continues. It’s bad enough that my business empire is crumbling! Now, PLDT is draining us of needed revenues!!!

We applied for a PLDT DSL line in January 30, 2007. My business officially opened to the public on April 8, 2007. That’s 2 months and 8 days. Today, that would be 3 months and 3 days.

PLDT DSL is supposed to give my shop a free PC and a tarpaulin. According to the PLDT DSL management in Antipolo, we have to wait a month.

And so we waited.

And waited.

It’s now April 8, opening day – no PC, no tarpaulin.

We continued to wait.

We followed up. Even our PLDT bills have not been sent. They said they will send it.

I asked my staff to call PLDT. She was surprised because the other girl on the other line said, “How come you’re not paying the bill?”

Bill? We never received any bill. This is the reason for this call! Hello!

Do you guys know what that means?

Where is our tarpaulin?

Where is our PC?

May 2, 2007.

PLDT disconnected our DSL line. Without warning.

I scrambled. I asked my staff to go to PLDT DSL and pay the bill even without any statement nor bill. The girl explained that “SORI PO, ME PROBLEMA LANG PO SA MESSENGER NAMIN. That who? The what? You have a problem with your messenger? Let me figure this out. It’s YOUR messenger, right? Not MYYYYY messenger, korek? I guess that’s why they call him/her a MESSenger. Such a mess.

Result?

It’s bad enough that it’s crumbling, now, I got a PLDT blow! Who else would be next to hit me? Ano to?

Hey wait! Eto pa!

We still don’t have our free PC!

We still don’t have our tarpaulin!

Why is PLDT killing my business?

What have we done?

Are we such a threat to PLDT???

We will be offline for the next three days, yon ang sabi nang PLDT. Because that’s how long it will take for them to turn the connection back on. Yeap, that long. Tagal ano?! Ano kayang seremonyas ang ginagawa just to turn the stupid signal on?

I guess, they will have to sit in a boardroom situation, review and approve boxes and boxes of documents to agree to put our DSL line back. I don’t know. Maybe they will have an investor’s meeting and let all the shareholder’s decide the fate of our DSL line. Maybe dahil PLDT sila, whose almost a monopoly in their business will have to bring our case to the Supreme Court. I don’t know!

So there you go.

Three days of lost revenues.

Repeat after me: “BECAUSE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH OUR MESSENGER” yon ang sabi.

They would not even discuss about refunding some monies back to us because it’s not even our fault. We did not hire their messenger. We are not at fault here. Why are we to pay for their own problem. Our business empire is not a multi-million dollar IT company. We’re super katiting na competitor ni Aling Inday. Php1.00 lost revenue for my business is equivalent to filing bankruptcy. We are not a multi-national company. We’re not even known in Antipolo, for god’s sake! ~!@#$%^&*(!

Every bit of revenue for the day is very important to us. But, NO! We have to pay PLDT’s problems, and the reason? Repeat after me: “BECAUSE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH OUR MESSENGER”.

You would think that in this IT age, with information on the net that they could spit out an electronic invoice – but NO! It has to be manually delivered to us by their messenger. Who knows, where the hell this messenger went. Is he drunk? Where is he? Can you imagine that our business was left at the mercy of this messenger? We have to buy him an insurance! Kailangang arugain namin sya nang todo! We need to give him some big-time tender loving care! Kelangan ko syang bigyan nang Mercedez Benz just to make sure na meron syang sasakyan. I have to put him on my payroll just to make sure na deretso sweldo nya, else baka di ideliver ang invoice. I have to provide housing sa kanya. Medicare pa. I’m sure hihingi sya nang retirement. I think I have to do all these para masecure na ide-deliver nya tong invoice regularly every month, right?

Who is this very important person in the world?

Who could he be?

Pag nakita nyo sya, please… HUG HIM.

And whisper this to him/her!

PUN!@#$%A KA TALAGA!~!@#$%^&*

    Hay nako! Tell me about it. I normally dont have problems with PLDT whenever i have issues kase I also know some “powers that be” over at PLDT. Pero the last time it happened to me , I decided to test the efficiency of the services they offered, without my connections. And hello naman!!! Ang dami ko tuloy napagalitan na reps and supervisors over the phone. Since I work for the customer service industry, alam ko ang limitations and ang mga kaya lang gawin ng mga reps, pero ayokong makarinig ng mga canned respones no!

  4. Di ka ba nagtataka?
    Kamalasan, sunod-sunod na!
    Di kaya ang mga ito
    Ay hudyat ng pagsara ng pinto?

    Madalas tayo’y naghahanap,
    Ng sinyales sa ulap;
    Subalit di tayo nakikinig,
    Ang sagot di natin naririnig.

    Masyadong maingay ang kahig,
    Nalulunod ang munting tinig;
    Sa sarili alam mo ang gusto mo,
    Ito ba ang gusto Nya para sa yo?

  12. hmmm ang weird naman nun. pero oo, kind of the same experience. i think hindi rin lang naman PLDT. i think the problem is yung sistema ng customer service industry dito sa pinas. ang weird lang kase maraming call centers dito that cater to foreign markets pero yung mga local companies natin, sobrang behind pa rin sa sistema, CRM tools, at organization ng kanilang mga customer service departments. nakakafrustrate lang, knowing that they can do so much pa, pero parang they don’t want to invest in their CS departments.

  14. @AJ,

    can you imagine that my staff was telling me that they were on hold FOR ALMOST AN HOUR just to talk to a HUMAN BEING?! WTF?! And to think PLDT is in the telecommunications business? And do I hear that they are traded on the New York Stock Exchange?! susko! Anong ginagawa nang mga tao nila? Tumbang preso?! What kind of IT system meron sila? Baka talo pa nang mga computers ko? Baka de-pedal yong server nila? Ohhhhhh!!! You have no idea! Nang-gagalaiti ako!

  16. Ang siste sa kanila eh, you can only have one service order open, meaning, kahit na you have 10 simultaneous issues concerning different departments, isa isa lang ang pwedeng asikasuhin.
    ang strategy ko when calling is pag patak pa lang ng 8:00 AM, tawag na agad since kakabukas lang nila. Marami akong issues about their hotlines and their customer service in general. Parang gusto kong i-revamp, pero goodluck na lang.

    Pera mo, mabilis nawawala;
    Kung di ka mag-iisip ng tama,
    Sa kangkungan, ika’y dadapa.

    Ganito muna ang iyong gawin,
    Sarili mo’y konsultahin;
    Isipin na ang Internetville,
    Ay kliyente ng Jam Asso., deal?

  22. @AJ,

    thanks na lang. you know, you learn as you go on and i didn’t know that we will have a problem like this and i think my staff knows how to deal with this in the future, with or without that stupid messenger. we won’t rely on PLDT’s customer service nor their invoice. we’ll just go there and pay it. that’s the problem with being small - verrrrry small and PLDT being an 800 pound gorilla

    i had a problem with bayantel, kelan lang. i was applying sana for dsl, so tumawag ako sa office nila. i was asked by an agent kung meron daw bang connection ng bayantel sa neighborhood namin. i said i have no idea. ang sabi ng agent sa akin, “Ma’am, paki-research na lang po muna kung merong may bayantel connection dyan sa neighborhood ninyo.” imagine, ako pa magri-research! eh as agent, they should know which areas they are servicing. hay, gigil na gigil ako talaga nun.
