Eto ang news na maganda! True to what I believe “Oi! Magaling ang Pinoy!”, well, well, well!!! Here’s a FILIPINO teacher of English, Warren Ambat, who was named Innovative Teacher of the Year at the 2007 Microsoft Regional Innovative Teachers’ Awards. O laban kayo? Si Ambat, ay dati nang nanalo nang Philippine Innovative Teachers Leadership Awards (ITLA). He teaches English literature at the Baguio City National High School-Main. Bested 250 other teachers from 23 countries for the award, which recognizes teachers who use innovative methods in their instruction programs.
Anong innovation ang ginawa nya? He’s got this project, “Localization and Digitization: An Approach to Appreciating Shakespearean Plays,†aims to instill an appreciation for literature and culture in the students by using the Internet as a resource for materials on the works of English playwright William Shakespeare. Parehas na parehas to nang THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL
So, ano tong innovation nya? Well, students would be asked to produce short films that interpret some of Shakespeare’s works in a Filipino setting. O, winner! Can you imagine Shakespeare sa kangkongan setting? Well, dahil tiga Baguio ang Titser, what about Shakespeare sa rice terraces setting? That would really be something for the world to see. Unfortunately, there is no play yet or I don’t know kung pano napanalo nya tong award na to, was it based on the concept itself or merong nang play?
I hope we get to see Shakespeare sa Palayan nang Bulakan setting someday.
In any case, mabuhay si Titser Ambat! OI! MAGALING ANG PINOY!

Sir Ambat was my mentor in high school (ednas school dagupan circa 1999). If not for his influence, I wouldn’t have had an eventful high school life. He coached for a competition (on which I won by the way) and encouraged me to join our highschool paper (the breakthrough). I was awarded the Rogelio Gonzales Literary Award for that. Many thanks to Mr. Ambat! Would anyone know how I can contact him ?
