  2. He’s a professional singer Reynz… kilala sya sa pangalang IZ but his full name is Israel Kamakawiwo’ole….he’s hawaiian (obviously) and a really popular one… maganda boses at unique ang arrangement nya ng mga songs like this “somewhere over the rainbow” that you posted. I first saw him sa PBS just lie Suze Orman and fell in love with his music. Cute di ba - malaki pa yung braso nya sa ukelele, hehehe. But yeah, go IZ!!!!

  6. He used to be a regular in a TV show “hot hawaiian nights” in honolulu… I think PBS showed one of the taped episodes and that’s how I came to know him…may DVD ako rito nung isang concert nya - ansimple kamo ng background, nagsabit lang ng malapad na tela, maiiyak ka…basta may ukelele sya tapos may dalwa syang kasama na back-up vocals at added instruments… ang audience mga karaniwang tao lang - parang jamming sa kanto..pero kahit di mo pa naiintindiha ang lyrics dahil hawaian nga, maka captivate ka ng singing nya…Yup, bili ka ng DVD nya, worth it…worth it…worth it.

  10. I love him..I am using his song “Somewhere over the rainbow” on my another site dedicated to my family…syempre maganda meaning ng song din and his version.

I do not know if you know that Iz was morbidly obese and at one point carried over 750 pounds (340 kg) on his 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m) frame. He endured several hospitalizations and died of weight-related respiratory illness on June 26, 1997 at 12:18 am at the age of 38.

His death is a loss to our music industry …

  12. I first fell in love with IZ when this song was played as the mood music in “ER” when Dr. Greene died. I was literally bawling! So, I know how you feel about IZ. There are many beautiful modern Hawaiian songs, such as the Casimiro Brothers (not sure about the spelling)… More power to the OHANA SPIRIT!
