Permanent site of Reyna Elena
Ladies and Gentlemen!
This will be the permanent site of Reyna Elena.
If you are looking for OFW Center, please type www.ofwcenter.com - all the links in that site should all be working now.
Some of the links here, especially on the tab ALL POST may not work right. I still have to edit all of them. My apologies!

Reynz 1st blog convention!
We had our very first blog convention yesterday in Voorhees, New Jersey. It was a standing room only (read: sira sira mga silya). The music was loud and it was too noisy! (the other participant was playing WarCraft!). The place was packed! (read: andun kami sa kusina na pagka-sikip sikip). The food was catered (we called Domino’s Pizza) and it was just overflowing with liquids and everything (natagalan kaming i-sara yong gripo sa kusina!). And lastly, it was very well attended (read: kaming tatlo lang po).
We discussed and shared the little knowledge we know about blogging, adsense, html coding, wordpress plugins, konting cheezemizhan and a full discussion as to what in the world are we doing in the blogosphere when diwa has her business that’s now close to bankcruptcy (he he he), chuva’s having exams in the next few weeks and we might have another lay-offs at work this month! Ugh!
Chuva, showed me how to have an amicable solution between OFW Center and Reyna Elena, and with Bluehost instructions, I should be on my way to separate these two sites.
Finally, given the new links that Diwa was able to incorporate in her blog and given that Chuva was able to incorporate the correct plugin to put some music into his blogsite, looks like we’ve achieved our grand objective. That music plugin was really, really nice! I was just so excited that Chuva was able to plug it in and play it right in one of his blogs! Neat huh?!
To cap off our 1st grand oscar’s-green-wid-envy blog convention, we called JC (of World Class Pinoy) in Manila! Can you imagine that we were actually meeting one of our diwata by phone in Manila?! It was really nice hearing JC’s voice over the phone. You see, we all met here at Reyna’s site. This is just one of the perks of blogging. Meeting friends!
That’s it folks! We still have a lot of learning to do and I’m sure we’ll have another blog convention somewhere! Sooner, because my memory span is 5 seconds only!
(P.S. I know! Tatawagan din namin kayo! He He He and I owe Jazz of San Fran, a call. Jazz, I got your call, I was on the turnpike driving!)

I want to start a business, but how?
Coffee House

Hi..
i read your articles about small business…how to start and all.. and i have learned a lot, thanks. i am planning to put up my own small business in about 5 years. i have to save first. most of my earnings goes to amortization and the like. anyways, the business i wanna open up is a coffee shop. I love coffee and books…so i will be making it a coffeeshop where people can come over to read or hold casual meetings over coffee. it will be something students can afford to go to..where middle class and elite love to go to. i can almost picture out the setup and the ambiance. i wish i can start it sooner instead of working abroad.
I would like to dedicate that letter to a newcomer from the Philippines whom I would just like to call Jazz, who now lives in Northern California. She wanted to start a business, but do not know where to start. I gave her some reading assignments and hopefully, we could pick it up from there.
Where do you start?

Success is when… Kuta’s scholar becomes a doctor!
One of our dear online friend, a wacky teacher who drives our faces with laughter that sometimes nears the boundary of insanity, is just one happy, heureux, glücklich, ???????, felice, ????????? woman today!
Here’s why:
Nakaw ulit ako internet sa school kasi minu minuto ko inaabangan ang result ng physician licensure exam given noong Sunday and Monday, Feb. 18 and 19… Kalalabas kanina about 3 hours ago ang guess what, PASADO ANG ISKOLAR NG FAWNDEYSHUN KOOOOO, EEEEEEEEE!!! !!!
Wow! Congratulations may not even be the right word! She’s just one very, very lucky person to have such a real good scholar! I’m really happy for her! And much happier for the scholar of her foundation. I was so happy, I didn’t even bother na meron palang harang yong net namin sa pisina, pinasok ko na makapag-conrats lang sa kanya! Sisante kung sisante!!!
I love to hear stories like this, especially for Filipinos working outside of the Philippines because those people back home will never be able nor can they ever relate as to how we earn money or mabuti pang just to earn and send back home. I’m sure there are always exception to my stupid rule, but to be able to send money to your relatives in the Philippines is one thing, and those relatives using the money for what it was intended for is another thing. Looks like Kuta got it both right! SUCCESS!!!
I’m really happy for Kuta kaya eto nag-sisipsip ako and gave her one blogspace para di nya makalimutan na mula ngayon libre na ang aking medical check-up. Beginning today, sasambahin kita Kuta. He He He! Mahal yata medical expenses!!!
I wonder kung kumusta naman kaya mga pinag-aaral nang mga ibang engkanto dyan? Moi? Wag nyo na kong tanungin. Alam nyo na!
So people of da world! Beginning today! Lahat nang sasabihin ki KUTA eh puro maganda!!! Intiendicitos?!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

She made my product worth millions!
The Online Store Plan
I have been planning to set up my own online store for the 123456789th time! Yes, this is part of my The Hunt for My Six-Figures Dream on the internet. I decided to try and sell hand-crafted, locally-made and exquisite Pinoy Products.
Since I am clueless in setting up an online store, I have to rely on somebody who has been successful in doing it. *Toingggggg!! I got the clue from www.rainbowreels.com! So, through the artful process of coercion, intimidation and harassment, he agreed voluntarily to help me with open arms and set-up my online store. In turn, I shower him with yadi-yadi-yada and simply tell him he’s gorgeous, wonderful. I would have to repeat it over and over and over and over and ovah to the 1,000th power!
Take a real good picture!
When selling online products, you better take a damn good picture of your product, otherwise, you won’t be able to convert. It’s in the picture. It’s in the perfect description. The artful and creative descriptions you write about your product coupled with excellent pictures, should be able to do the formula of conversion into some mighty US dollars. Right, Chuva?
So that was my next job. To take pictures. I called Joey. I went to his place and asked for his help. Obligingly, he helped me took pictures of the product. Ahhh! You have no idea!
We were using Canon PowerShot S500 Digital ELPH 5.0. I have no clue whatsoever on how to use this camera that I had for bizillian years now. All I know is power it on and click! Poor Joey! I stressed him out! He was screaming! He was yelling! He was calling the cops, because I just didn’t know how to turn off the damn flash! No clue! Clueless! Ah-ah! No idea! Nada! Ziip! Ziiit! That was never part of my MBA curriculum! Sorry!
As it would turn out, the product looked like trash! We have no model. We have to use a Teddy Bear to put the necklace on. I tried to be the model. Oh, it was not funny at all! It was bloody ugly! Knowing Joey? AH! He was just about ready to push me out of his 27th floor condominium! Taking a cue from America’s Top Next Model - Here’s your best shot!

Oh, before I forget… Joey is a chef. A super-chef. No, not chef of folizze. A real one. He does cook real good Italian food though!
AND THEN…
From Joey’s place, I drove over to my niece’s new $300k house near Joey’s area in Drexel Hill. They (Joy, Ann and my niece) were painting the bedroom. This is where I met Ann Yema-Bunders. She is a nursing student (Yeeehaaa!!!). Very sweet, very nice and funny too! She’s a good friend of my niece. I found out that she’s an avid photographer! I want you all to meet her:
I showed them the pictures that me and Joey took just a few hours ago and they literally fainted! I showed them the teddy bear! Their laughter almost caused an earthquake in the brand new house! Can you imagine?! It’s obvious! I need some serious support group!
She offered to help. Oh my gosh! He He He! Am I lucky or what?! She took home a sample. She must have cranked up her camera like crazy because by the time I arrived home that night, I have the pictures. It’s unbelievable!
She literally made my product worth millions! I mean, if I could sell these for a million, why not?! Look!

Ross would agree with me. Pictures are really worth a thousand words. I don’t even have to describe them. Ann put all the descriptions in the photograph itself. Would you agree?
Putting up an online store is similar to putting up a blog. Some people write blogs, submit it to all the URL crawlers and then expect the world to come. Not quite. I am mindful of the fact that when that time that I am ready to put my online store, I know that I should be mindful of the following:
-
Niche market
-
Exchange rate (because my products are coming from the Philippines)
-
Navigable online store
-
Excellent product write-up and descriptions
-
Product pricing
-
Selling strategies
-
Online traffic
-
Marketing
-
Advertising and more importantly
-
PICTURES.
Unless you are a skilled-photographer yourself, this is where we need all the Ann Yema-Bunders of the world. This is her craft, this is what she’s good at, this is where she excels. I don’t have a choice but go into business process outsourcing and ask her to be my official product photographer that she gladly accepted.
At the moment, I’m still trying to resolve some product supply issues. However, if you are willing or interested to be one of my suppliers or you know somebody who can ship this kind of Pinoy products to Philadelphia, send me an email. We’ll work something out.

Retake the 2006 Nursing Licensure!
I maybe late with this news (I was doing maintenance work) but I thought, I would still write about this, since this is affecting my dear nurses. There’s a couple of bad news to all the nurses affected by the infamous cheating that happened.
And they are:
-
The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) decided to deny last year’s passers of the VisaScreen Certificates.
-
Taking a cue from the US, other countries might imitate the United States in requiring those who passed the 2006 nursing licensure tests to retake portions whose results were allegedly leaked to exam takers.
Ok, so those are what’s happening right now.
At the moment, I don’t understand why we now have involved the Supreme Court of the Philippines to decide on retaking the exam. Can someone shed light? If you took the exams, can’t you retake the whole thing no more? (Geee… I don’t understand!!!) Why? well, for one thing, the UST Faculty Association filed a motion with the for reconsideration to allow the board passers to re-take portions of the exam. My personal opinion is telling me that even if the Supreme Court agree to the motion, what’s in it in the eyes of the world? The truth of the matter is, all of those who took the tainted exams are, in the eyes of the prospective employers, are questionable. This is the reason why NONE of them are interested in hiring those poor graduates. At the end of the day, it’s NOT the Supreme Court that will hire or find you a job. Simple, isn’t it? Can you guess who will hire you?! If you figure that out, then you know exactly who to please by retaking the exams!
Listen to me people!!! NAKIKINIG BA KAYO?! Forget the Supreme Court! Forget the UST Faculty Association (although, I do admire their fighting stance! Kudos to them!) and this is what I have been telling most of my nurses who are asking me the same question that my brother in law’s niece had asked me.
That was the question raised to me by itchyfeet. Plain and simple, here’ s my advice (raw with no spell/grammar checker!)
@itchyfeet - magagalit ka sa sasabihin ko pero deretsahan to. buti pang mayanig ka na ngayon kesa magdusa ka 4ever. what has been done to your batch is one nasty ugly *kung pede pa lang magmura!* way! naintindihan mo? putang ina nang gapuz review na yan!!! see what happens sa mga mandaraya? what you need to do is detach yourself from your batch. what do you do? do not ever insist na you are different from that batch dahil in the eyes of the world, lahat kayong 2006 batch mandaraya. totoo man o hindi. so how do you detach from that ugly perception? RETAKE THE BOARD. Yan ang kapalit nang panlolokong ginawa sayo. Afraid of failing? Mamili ka. Will you forever suffer from the mantsa na ginawa sayo nang ulol na mga tiga Gapuz or do something now na maaga pa? RETAKE THE BOARD. DO IT NOW! Kalaban mo mundo. Wala kang panalo.
