That’s where my relatives lives and work as well as my friends.

I just learned a few minutes ago on a cell phone call that got disconnected that cousin Veron’s house in Buragwis was totally destroyed. We have no news yet of Ate Fely’s, they live very close to that rampaging river in Albay. I don’t even know about my best friend Benjie. We still have no news about our brother’s house. No news either about my sister’s bakery blown away by Milenio from the previous super-typhoon. No phone lines.

…

I turned the TV off. It’s too much.

Have faith, my friend. The Filipinos are the most resilient nation in this world. I am praying that your family was spared from the tragedy. I am no stranger to the region myself. I am yet to hear from my close friends who live close to the area. My good friend from college is teaching in MORMNHS Marcial O. Ranolla Memorial National High School in Guinobatan. I know she lives very very close to Mayon. I have close friends who are teachers or administrators of the Bicol University, Aquinas U., and other schools all over Albay. And my two dear friends live dangerously close to the mud covered airport… I pray that their lives are spared as well.
