Another graduation story

As all of you might have known by now, I went to a not so so famous school in L.A. Legazpi, Albay, that is.

And so, in order for me to get a decent job in the United States, I figured, if I could beautify my resume (beautify as in lagyan nang flowers here, flowers there and sprinkle it with glitters!!!) with an American school, maybe it would help me get a decent job at hindi yong por hora na dati kong trabaho na below the minimum wage!!!

(OHHH! I remember that job! Nag-sasalansan po ako nang junk mails! And I still remember the Filipina manager na ang sungit sungit na malditang na akala mo sya me ari nang junk mail factory! She got rid of me dahil sa ganda ko and years later? Nagkita kami nang tikbalang na to and guess what? Mas maganda na ako!!! Sarappp nang feeling! Yong junk mail shop nila? Nasunog!!! Magdusa kayo!!! Ako? Reyna Elena na. He He He), anyway…

And so I started my mission sometime in 2002 with the help of friends. I think I am lucky to have some friends who have the brightest minds in the world who helped me get a nice, a really nice GMAT number. That magic number will decide if I can get to a business school or not.

Here are the culprits: (I’ll post their pictures as soon as I get permission and soon as I figure out how to post them in here! Yeeehhhaa!!!)

  • The Little Prince – he’s Indonesian, a traffic systems engineer with a master’s and a PhD at the University of Connecticut.

  • The Cake Master – pinoy. a double master’s (math and computer science) and former professor of De La Salle University.

  • The Chef – pinoy, from the University of the Philippines in Los Banos, a scholar in Rochester went on to London for further studies then bumalik sa US

  • The Coder – pinoy, from the University of the East, a systems programmer.

Cake Master and Coder are the bookish type. Follow steps 1, 2, 3 and solve the problem. Little Prince and the Chef combined Cake Master and Coder with the art of test-taking. Here’s how you get to the answer is a quick-minute. Beauty of diversity. You get the best of both worlds. He he He

Even on the beaches of Rehoboth in Delaware. Who cares about good-looking men? I am busy reviewing! Thanks to these guys. They were the very reason why GMAT was a breeze. In the end, I was accepted at Temple University.

During my second year in the business school, I managed to influence friends to go back to school. After all, competition in the United States is at an all-time high, and it will always be. You have to constantly be beautiful and pretty! Polish your skills, lift your credentials, find new networks and just do everything so you’re always on top of your career.

I remember Miss eBay, we pushed him, coerced him, intimidated him, harassed him and nagged the heck out of his brains to finish his associate degree at Camden Community College. Ngayon, he’s ready to move in to a new and improved New Jersey campus of Rutgers University for his full BS degree.

Dyames from De La Salle went on a different strategy. He figured, since there’s been a lot of business process outsourcing lately, moving jobs to the Philippines, India and some in China, maybe it’s about time to move to a different field. And so he did. His eyes were set for nursing. Finishing a few subjects in Florida, he’s now at the Jefferson University for a few more years in nursing. I agree with his decision. You can’t miss out on nursing!

Dranreb is a recent graduate of Rutgers University, his strategy was to get a job, cool it down for a bit, get a GMAT and wow – his eyes are all set for an MBA! After all, he now works for one of the largest brokerage corporation in the United States!

And here’s Jellicoe.

If Dale Carnegie has “How to win friends and influence people”, I am with a very fine group of friends who could really influence you to get your ass in school and do something. (Well, at least for some but not all! Hint! Hint!! Stop reading those craigslist!!!)

Jellicoe started school sometime in January of 2003. With a style all on his own, with a fascination of anything that’s artsy, kaya siguro naging close sa amin dahil talagang ma-a-arte kami, he went to the Arts Institute of Philadelphia. All these years, pinag-papasensyahan naming, because, “I’m not available bitches!!! I got assignments to do!”. You see him on the streets of Philadelphia and he would not even recognize me! Nor even say “hi”! Ugh! Some people just take studies way too seriously, you know!

Yet true to the word that most Pinoy students are over-achievers (I know, it’s a stereo-type!), well, he is. He constantly pushes himself to beat the head of the class. (Did I just say “push”, “head”… sorry. Mind games. Bad mind games. He He He).

He is graduating this December 15th. With honors.

So…..

Jellicoe… Congratulations!!! And a day after your graduation? You will officially be a member of the mother of all reality shows called….

THE AMAZING MAGHANAP-BUHAY RACE!!!

Matitikman mo na rin kung anong pagdurusang inaabot namin! HA! HA! HA!
