THAILAND
Parang kelan lang, actually last month lang, when I was reading about this country’s leader who’s gonna be speaking to the UN, then back in his country, military vehicles started moving and romping into the capital. I was shocked, coup na naman, until I realized it was Bangkok that they’re talking about. Akala ko, Manila! Hayyyy!!! Salamat!
What’s interesting though is that one of the coup leader in Thailand has Philippine connections!
Nobody had an inkling then that on Sept. 19, Maj. Gen. Thawip Netniyom, a top official of the Royal Thai Army and the topnotcher of PMA Class of 1981, would be among the leaders of a coup against Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Thawip was called the day after the coup and designated as spokesman of the junta as tanks surrounded and secured key government and private installations (Thawip did not command the unit that secured the key installations as earlier reported).
He was named spokesperson of the Council for Democratic Reform days later by the coup leader, Gen. Sonthi Boonyaratglin.
TAIWAN
Taiwanese President refuses to quit! - says the headline on CNN. What’s going on?! These headlines are reserved for Filipino politicians! Inaagawan na ba tayo nang headlines nang mga intsiks?
Get this…
“but the latest scandal blew up on Friday when prosecutors indicted first lady Wu Shu-chen on embezzlement, forgery and perjury charges. Wu was accused of taking 14.8 million New Taiwan dollars (US$450,000; euro350,000) from a special diplomacy fund in 2002-06, prosecutors said.”
Even the Taiwanese First Lady is doing an Imelda Marcos! Wow! What else can we export sa mga neighbors natin?
MYANMAR
Maj. Zaw Phyo Win, director at the Ministery of Commerence in Myanmar, weds Thandar Shwe, daughter of Myanmar junta leader Senior Gen. Than Shwe, during ceremonies in July in Yangon. The display of luxury at the wedding came as a surprise to many as most of Myanmar’s 55 million people care barely make ends met. The Irrawaddy, a respected online magazine put out by Myanmar journalists exiled in Thailand, said the wedding cost $300,000 and the couple received wedding gifts worth $50 million, although it didn’t say how it obtained the figures.
What do you remember? Remember that ala-Princess Diana Wedding that happened in Ilocos a.k.a Araneta-Marcos Wedding? Go figure, at magkano na nga ang kinikita natin noon, aber?
