Ah, k. There’s no secondary license required unlike with formal schools and technical vocational schools which secure from DepEd, Ched and TESDA. Just an approval of the business name with DTI if sole proprietorship, SEC if corporation or partnership and Cooperative Devt Authority if cooperative. Then the usual registration with BIR, SSS, Philhealth, Health, Fire and the License to Operate or Mayor’s Permit.
Step 1. BN approval.
Step 2. Secure TIN from BIR
Step 3. Secure License to Operate or Mayor’s Permit. Before you are issued with License or Mayor’s permit, you will be required SSS, Fire and Health registration.
But if you are setting up a pre-school, you’ll need a secondary license from DepEd.

I’m doing some research din dito, yung sylvan at huntington learning centers nga nag part time ang byuti ko para naman maka rub shoulder ko yung mga may ari, Di mahirap sa kanila kasi franchise eh….Sana kung may makakapag share ng concrete experience nila (Philippine setting ba) dito sa site mo mas lilinaw ang aking paningin at higit kong mapaghahandaan ang aking mga kaaway… and then I can prepare the necessary antidotes bago pa ako malason, di vah?

In na in kasi ang mga teachers na nagpunta dyan sa US of A. Pwede hingi advice? kasi di nga ako sigurado if I want to go there. What can u say about sa paghahasik ng lagim there? I heard nga na many of those nagpunta dyan, nag-alsa balutan din pabalik. Good ang naisip mo na magtayo ng pre-school if ever na bumalik ka dito.

Mariya: I’m gonna pick up this line probably on another post. Eh kasi ba naman, culture shock ang dating nila here. Most of the problems comes up kasi ganito:
First, unlike in the Philippines where students are not hard to motivate and are very eager to learn, students in the United States are undisciplined; they carry knives, and they call their teachers bad names, throw chairs and pieces of paper at them. I’m sure you heard about the Columbine shootings. You cannot lay a hand on these students unlike in the Philippines – eh yong professor ko nga sa Aquinas – ang hudas na yon, whenever I make mistakes – as in kinukurot ang singit ko or at aking suso! And I am not kidding you! This is so damn true! If that incident was in the US, I could have easily charge her with sexual molestation! (Ngek! Nalaman mo tuloy na I was a molested student!

A Filipino teacher’s success here depends on an interplay of several factors, so to speak. Gaano ka na ba katagal nagturo? Experience really helps but more so is yung resilience mo in adapting to a multi cultural environment – very diverse ang mga tao dito.
First, the “NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND” says all teachers that are placed in the classrooms to teach the children “MUST BE HIGHLY QUALIFIED TO TEACH THE SUBJECT THEY ARE TEACHING” Kailangan ipasa mo whatever exams required para maka teach ka ng certain subject. What exam? Well, depende sa state: New York, Philladelphia, Maryland, WDC at Virginia I know give Praxis exam…Kailangan ipasa mo ito – tatlong series yan, Parxis 1 (english, reading at math) tapos dalawang PraxisII (content knowledge at general education). Three hours yung praxis I tapos tig 1.5 hours each yung praxis II. Ngayon, kung feel mo naman sa California or other states sa west coast, CBEST naman exam nila dun. Sa Texas, TEXES…sa Oklahoma, OGET; sa Arizona, AEPA, etc etc. Siyempre, may bayad kada exam, hundreds of $$$ lahat. So imagine mo yung pressure sa mga Filipino teachers na dumarating dito a week or two before school opens: WHERE DO I LIVE? MAGKANO AABUTIN RENT? SAAN AKO MAG GO GROCERY? WHERE’S MY SCHOOL? HOW DO I GET THERE IF I DON’T HAVE A CAR AND DRIVER’S LICENSE? WA KO KNOWZ MAG DRIVE! WHO ARE THE ADMINISTRATORS IN MY SCHOOL? NICE KAYA SILA? MAY CLASSROOM KAYA AKO OR FLOATING? ANO KAYA GAGAWIN KO SA FIRST WEEK? KELAN ANG EXAM KO – WHERE ANG VENUE? HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE TEST? Andyan pa palagi yung homesickness so hanap ka ng phone card para makatawag sa Pinas.
Second struggle mo is classroom management. Sabi nga ni sistah reynz, you will be dealing with kids who are brought up in an entirely different culture. Tandaan mo, what is considered disrespectful in our culture may not be disrespectful sa kanila. Sigawan ka man, or batuhin ng chair, wag ka mag react agad kasi baka ganun sila mag show ng respect sa kanilang culture, hehehehe… As a general observation sa mga batang lumaki dito, hindi mahalaga sa kanila ang education, pag nagtuturo ka, wa paki ang byuti nila; pag tinakot mo, ssagutin ka ng SO?; pag bumagsak, lagot ka sa parents for not doing your job; pag ipinasa mo ng walang kahirap hirap, lagot ka pa rin; marami pumupunta sa schools walang papel, notebook, pen NOTHING! Alam nila may budget sa school yan kaya obligado kang bigyan…nakakabwisit pa, kabago bagong pencil pinuputol lang sa gitna at the end of class at nagbabatuhan… wala kasi silang sense of ownership – di naman sila bumibili ng gamit nila eh. Then comes the district at state assessment, sa result nito naka base ang galing ng teacher, the more students na nakapasa, the better teacher ka raw. In other words, ang accountability lahat halos nasa teacher, ang pressure galing sa admin mo, sa district, sa parents at higit sa lahat sa mga students – kung paano mo sila tuturu-an. Ang workload ng teachers dito, hindi katulad dyan sa Pinas na itsurang magmumulti tasking ka everyday as gardener, janitress, landscaper, interior designer, then teacher. Mas magaan dito physically, as in mega teach ka lang, mega call homes, mega motivate the kids, mega document everything you’re doing para you have something to cover your butt if anything happens, you know what I’m saying. Every single day pinaghahandaan mo ang possible lawsuit, parang ganun – so document, document, document. I heard mga recruiter dyan sabi malaki sahod – hindi malaki ang sahod ng guro dito. Lamang lang ng isang paligo sa minimum wage. Siyempre kung ikukumpara mo sa sweldo ng guro dyan, malaki talaga pero isipin mo you are also spending dollars here saka ang taxes at deductions mo are in dollars din. At bago ko makalimutan, ang placement nga pala ng students dito ay based on age…kaya kung fifteen years old na kahit wa knowz ang EY BEE CEE, shoot sa high shool! Ganyan ka genius mga merkano. One summer lang ng literacy class at high school ka na. Mga ELL kids dito either spanish or french ang first language… Okay lang magturo tayo ng hispanic kasi comprendo poquito natin ang lengwahe nila pero french? arabic? sudanese? kenyan? Somali? AAAHHHHHHH! One time nagtuturo ako ng Chemistry sa class at gusto yata ng aking arabic student from afghanistan eh itranslate ko sa kanya ang ivig zhabihin ko…nalukreng ang lola mo ateng…mega sign language! In the end ibinagsak ko sya pero katakut takot na proof ang kailangan ni bossing… what accomodations have I given him, what interventions have I given…syeet, kundi ba naman timang kayo ba’t nyo nilagay sa high school eh walang ibang alam yan before coming here kundi magbasa ng arabic at magbaklas ng AK47!!! Ano akala nila sa akin, fairy godmother na mag cast lang ng spell eh magiging genius na yung student? SYEETT!!!!
Hope na enlighten kita kahit papano. Mas aalwan nga buhay mo kung makakapgturo ka dito. Pero ask yourself: HANDA KA BA TALAGA???? If yes then what the !@#$% are you waiting for? Get your butt here and start teaching!

Parang Pinas, no one wants to take the teaching job because ambaba nga nang sweldo.
Now, comes Pinoy teachers. Aba – if you get paid $40k a year – KACHING! KACHING!!!! Para kang mega-win sa lottery di ba? I mean, if you are only getting Php20,000 a year – kano yon? Around $5,000 dullarez?? O di a whopping 800% or so increase!!! Can you imagine how many shoes you can buy for that increase? Hindi ka na mag-tsi-tsinelas!!!
