I hope you people have read “THE CASH FLOW BASIC” that I have gotten from the gov.ph site and posted here. I also hope na naintindihan ninyo because I thought, I would follow-up with the topic of savings.

Everyone knows that the key to building wealth of kung pano yumaman is through saving and investing. I remember nong nasa Manila ako last year, di ang haba nang pila sa ATM machine? Well, It thought I would act snoopy. Bastos ang ginawa ko, kaso, ewan ko, I though I would look. So, I checked those receipts na naiwanan doon sa tabi nang ATM para lang malaman ko kung magkano ang balance nang mga accounts nila. Hmmm… I know, I should have not done that. Wez! I mean, if you are earning in dollars, maaawa ka sa mga nakita ko. But who could tell how much is the average savings of an ordinary Filipino? Does anyone knows? I have no idea.

But what I know is that, and if you are a son, a daughter or a wife/husband of an OFW, will you save? I heard and I know of so many who does not care to save because every month meron silang tinatanggap. Who are they? Sister ko. Pamangkins ko.

So, the question becomes. As an OFW, do we save? Do you save? Iniisip mo ba sarili mo or lahat nang sweldo mo is padala to the Philippines? Let me tell you something. There is an OFW na halos maubos (kasi mi natirang singko) ang pera because of kagaguhan in believing that yong mga relathieves will try to save. Her name is Reyna Elena.

So, this posting is for you kapwa ko OFW. Don’t send all your monies to your relatives, loved ones or sa mga kabit nyo. Save something for yourself. Because if you cannot help yourself – you won’t be in a position to help someone.

So why aren’t we for our futures? Eto.

Saving money

Before you can stop making excuses, you’ve got to understand just why your argument is not valid.6 worthless excuses:1. I don’t make enough money.
2. I’ll get around to it later.
3. I deserve a little luxury in my life.
4. Someone else will take care of it.
5. I’m saving through my 401(k).
6. This item or service will pay for itself.

Ok, What’s the first thing you pay when you get your paycheck? Ano? Apartment rent? Kotse? Credit Card? Padala sa mga kung sino sino? See? Eto ang excuse mo.One reason many people don’t think they have enough to save is because hindi nila alam kung saan napupunta ang pera nila. They don’t know where their money is going or how much money they’re spending on items they don’t need. If that’s the case, “pay attention and bring it from the unconscious to the conscious.” Pag nalaman mo how you are spending money sa mga hindi mo kailangan, ma-re-realize mo na yong perang yon ang mase-save mo.

Mag start ka nang savings na automatic. Para di mo nakikita. Di mo nape-feel. The first check you write every month should be to you. Start with 5 percent; tapos dagdagan mo to 10 percent. Pag me bonus ka, yong Kalahari, save mo

Excuse No. 2: Tsaka na!

Kaso ang problema sa excuse na to is that the “Someday never comes”.People who put off saving and investing also don’t get the benefit of time, which is one of the greatest factors in successful wealth accumulation.

Excuse No. 3: Buy ako nang bagong cellphone! Bagong damit! Bagong boypren at gerpren!

The purpose of having a healthy savings plan is not to deny yourself the pleasure of buying things you like today. Not only should you be saving for retirement and emergencies, but you should also reward yourself by saving for things you’ll want to splurge on sometimes. If this is your favorite excuse, creating separate accounts for various savings goals, sama mo na kung ano anong earthen mo para me budget ka.Isipin mo, pag me pera sa savings account mo, matiwasay pagiisip mo di ba?

Excuse No. 4: Me savings asawa ko. Meron syang retirement.

Kaya even if someone else does bear most of the financial responsibility in your household, you’d better have a say-so on how it’s being run, because nine out of 10 of us are going to have to take care of our own money at some point.

Excuse No. 5: I’m saving through my 401(k), or meron naman akong retirement eh.

So? Ok lang. Pero mas maganda pa marami kang nesting eggs di ba? Pero pag wala kang pang emergencies at pang gasto sa mga kaartehan mo you’re going to end up having to dig yourself out of debt dahil alam ko, kakalkalin mo mga credit cards mo.

Kaya dont think that because me bahay ka, me equity ka, or me pera ka in you 401(k) eh tama na yon. If there’s an emergency or the car breaks down, then you start borrowing money.

Excuse No. 6: This item or service will pay for itself.

One of the main reasons people give for blowing their savings is because they’re buying intangibles that are worth more than money over time. While there are some items that fall into this category such as an education, it’s easy to rationalize that something is worth more than it is.

“People say ‘I should buy a vacation because I will learn about the world,’” says Bennett. That may be true, but “you have to compare financial freedom to the benefit of the trip around the world.”

A better idea would be to save for that vacation. It may take longer before you can go, but you won’t be compromising your financial future in the process.

Once you stop making excuses, you’ll see your money add up. At that point, something interesting will happen.

“After you’ve gotten serious about saving for six months, what you’ll find is you actually like it. Spending is addictive, but saving gets addictive, too.”
