And here’s?Reyna’s?global economic crawl on news about the Philippine economy…

First, here’s some good news on the retail side.RETAIL sales growth across most Asia-Pacific markets is expected to weaken in the first half of 2006, according to the latest MasterIndex of Retail forecast released by MasterCard International.” Follow this article on the link below:

Philippines, China seen leading retail sales growth

Next, just so you guys would know how strong we are! And to think that?as overheard by jozzua, there are OFWs who thinks negatively about the?three word OFW?!?Trust me, we are literally da Philippine economy itself! Here’s what the Inquirer is trumpheting!

OFW remittances jump 14% to $1.8B
Then, in the Bloomberg News and International Herald Tribune, good news to all those Philippine Exporters…”Going forward, global electronics demand will support overseas shipments,” said Leslie Khoo, an economist at Forecast Singapore, who expects Philippine exports to rise 9 percent this year after slowing to 3.9 percent in 2005.” Follow this news on this link below:

And on the Tourism side… eto, magbukas na kayo nang mga Bed and Breakfast dyan. They cannot attract that many tourist daw dahil kulang na ang mga accomodation sa Pinas. Yong mga bahay ninyo, convert na ninyong mga hotel! Ano ba kayo!

PHILIPPINES TARGETS 3 MLN FOREIGN TOURIST ARRIVALS THIS YEAR

Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano noted that the Philippines had registered double-digit growth for the past two years as far as foreign tourists are concerned.? Foreign visitors rose from 2.29 million in 2004 to 2.613 million in 2005, generating US$2.12 billion in dollar receipts.

(Can you imagine? Tourist Industry is earning $2.12 billion samantalang tayong mga OFW sends over $10 billion a year! DIES BILYONES MGA IHO, MGA IHA! Alam ba ninyo kung ilang sapatos ang DIES BILYONES?!!! UGH!”

“We have registered 17 per cent growth for the first two months this year. Even before the end of the quarter, we exceeded 500,000 foreign tourists,” he pointed out.

However, the country could not attract as much tourists as it would like because of limited accommodation, he said.

  2. Hey Reyna, guess what, somebody actually replied to my post and said that he/she would prefer to be called an ExPat and not an OFW. Hmm, to each his/her own, I guess.
