I like this, may interaksiyon!! simulan na natin ang diskasyon ng business no. gusto ko ring magsimula ng business and this is a good way to get ideas. sa palagay ninyo ba kapag nagbukas ako ng coffee shop (ala starbucks) eh mag-hi-hit sa Pilipinas? Opinyon lang..

Chris, kilala kita no?!
(Pwede ba! Meron kaming pang megamol no?!) But I think their strategy was to partner with local partners. Ganon ang ginawa nila actually sa Japan. Susko day, bawat kanto yata sa Japan eh Starbucks. So ang thinking nila is that yong national income levels might not support much of a Starbucks presence. So, ang ginawa nila, nakipag deal sa (I think - I might be wrong) Ayala at nong 1997 nagbukas sila nang Starbucks sa Makati. Guess what, after about 7 years, there are just so many Starbucks all over MetroManila and it’s amazing how packed they are kahit na super-init sa labas. This success is because Starbucks is a true brand. Magaling ang branding na ginawa nila kaya tuloy kahit na pulubi tayo according to them, we are more than willing to pay the high price kasi it feeds into pa-sosyal mentality natin dahil were not just buying the coffee but the luxury of drinking a Starbucks coffee.
I’ve tried a lot of Starbucks in Makati, Ortigas sa tapat nang Union Bank, Podium at Quezon City and iisa ang aking perception. People who goes there wanted to be seen. Ganon sila. Gumaganda ang buhay nang mga Pinoy and we want these kind of luxury.
So, ang tanong, mag-hi-hit ba ang Starbucks saatin? The answer is, it is a hit and it is happening at this very moment. Basahin mo muna yong Buying a Franchise.
Sya!

i worked more than a year in cebu city… as all you know, cebu is the most developed city in the south.. during my stay there, ’twas 2002-2003, nag start na pumatok yung coffee shop business… yuppies and senior professionals started to flock sa mga “kapihan” sa ayala center … pero eto napansin ko: walang STARBUCKS sa cebu.
Reyna Elena is absolutely right, people in pinas go to these places to be seen. nasa dugo na yata ng karamihan ang pagiging flashy.
pero sa nakita ko nga sa cebu, it doesnt have to be starbucks… basta meron drama ang place, sapul na agad ang target market.
and ofcourse, you will still have to go back to LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION principle.. ![]()
>P.S. i hate coffee. i’ve never been to any coffee shop. hehehe

Taz, I love Cebu! Nindot kaayo na lugar, daghan kaayo guapa y guapo. I actually learned how to speak Cebuano. I worked for an auditing firm based in Makati and I travel all over the Philippines and most of our clients (sa group namin) are in Cebu that’s why I am always there.
Anyway, you’re right. It doesn’t have to be Starbucks. Figures right now have it that that closest competitor of Starbucks is actually a Filipino-owned coffee called Figaro. But Gloria Beans and Seattle Best are all over the place also. So, yes, there is still a big chance that you could enter this market. Hindi pa naman saturated ang market na to in the Philippines.

mao gyud! nindot bitaw kaayu didto cebu… kadaghan sa hot babes ug big mama uy! ![]()

Starbucks, Figaro, Seattle Best at Gloria Beans. Actually, pag nasa loob ka na and you are sipping your coffee, I don’t think you’d remember where you are. Flavors are different, yong lakas nang buga nang air-con could be different, pero they’re all coffee. So, what are they serving sa mga customers? It’s the brand. It’s customer service at yong partnership nila with local companies. Dahil, if people finds out na… “Ayala ang management nyan eh..” there is this certain “dating” to our ears that we are kinda safe with what they sell. Instead of “Si Mang Isko” ang me ari nyan eh. Aba kahit na nasa Podium pa ang coffee bar ni Mang Isko, people approach the bar differently. So, if you were Mang Isko what would you do? Maintain a low profile or do something na hindi malaman na si Mang Isko ka talaga. Consumers in the Philippines are different. Way… different.

sabagay… tama din… i was just thinking of somewhat like “cafe by the ruins” in baguio… if you’ve been there, diba napaka unique nung concept nung place?
sabi na sayo i hate coffee eh…
hehehe… wala bang orange juice shop? ![]()

so eto - thanks sa mga advays! ang galing ninyong dalawa. i love the idea of coffee by the ruins, or the bahay kubo ambiance effect. you guys are giving me such great ideas! kailangang makagawa na ng business plan at magpadala na ng espresso maker dun para makapagsimula na.
salamat to both of you! Sana marami pang maglog dito to get more insight.
